European shares gain on healthcare boost, euro zone inflation data eyed

European shares climbed on Friday and were set for a weekly rise, led by healthcare stocks, while investors keenly awaited inflation data for further proof of easing price pressures across the board.The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.5% by 0810 GMT, and eyed a weekly rise of 2.3%, boosted by a fall in euro zone bond yields on expectations that central banks’ monetary policy tightening has peaked.

The 87-year-old money manager said he’s busier than ever as he looks to set up a new venture in Dubai. The firm will be “involved in investment,” he said, declining to provide specifics because he said it’s still in the negotiating stage. “It’ll be something quite exciting in emerging markets,” Mobius said in a Zoom interview from Bengaluru, a technology hub in India, one of the countries he said he’s most bullish on for the future.

Gold prices extended gains on Friday and were set for their first weekly rise in three, as investors stepped up bets that the U.S. Federal Reserve is done raising interest rates, pressuring the dollar and Treasury yields.

Spot gold was up 0.2% at $1,984.40 per ounce, as of 0551 GMT, after hitting its highest since Nov. 6 in the last session. U.S. gold futures were steady at $1,987.00.

The rupee slipped by 2 paise to 83.25 against the US dollar on Friday as a firm greenback in the overseas markets weighed on investor sentiments. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened flat at 83.23 against the US currency following overnight losses in crude oil prices.

However, a firm US dollar and weak domestic equity markets restricted the rupee movement and the local currency edged lower by 2 paise to 83.25 in early trade.

There are some important trends which will impact the market in the near-term. One, the big macro driver of this two day rally in the market – peaking and declining US bond yields – is very much in place. This will continue to impart resilience to the market. Two, the sharp decline in Brent crude to $ 77.5 is a positive for India’s macros and favourable for sectors that consume petroleum inputs like aviation, tyres and paints.
