Feature News: Telegram Now Lets Users Earn Crypto

Telegram is pushing further into the crypto space by introducing a new feature that allows creators to earn Toncoin (TON), the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network.
Telegram developers announced Wednesday that users can now send reactions in Stars—an off-chain, in-app currency tied to TON—to content creators and channels. These Stars can be converted into TON, or used to pay for advertising if creators prefer.
The move is part of Telegram’s broader strategy to transform its messaging app into a crypto-friendly platform.

Why is this important: TON, now the ninth-largest digital asset, saw its price rise 9% to $7.04 following the announcement, according to CoinGecko, news outlet Decrypt reported.
- The Open Network has seen significant growth, despite its separation from Telegram.
- Independent developers have continued to expand the network, which now boasts various features, including Bitcoin and USDT transactions.
What’s next: Simple tap-to-earn games continue to remain very popular on Telegram, with many users playing 5 games on average daily. Communities expect two potential airdrops: Hamster Kombat and Catizen.
