Coffee price assessment

Domestic coffee prices increased sharply after a period of adjustment, in the same direction as positive developments in the world market. The increase of Robusta London by more than 1% is a noteworthy factor for Vietnamese coffee prices, because Robusta is the main commodity group of the domestic market.

According to Barchart, coffee prices increased due to concerns about global supply, in which Brazil’s coffee harvest progress was slower than the same period. Safras & Mercado said Brazil’s 2026-2027 coffee harvest reached 90% as of August 12, lower than 97% in the same period last year and the 5-year average of 94%. Barchart also recorded Arabica certified inventories on ICE falling to a 2.75-year low, while Robusta inventories increased to a 5-month high.

Domestically, the increase of 1,700-1,800 VND/kg helped coffee prices regain some of the previous decline. However, the current level is still only around 97,000 VND/kg, lower than the high price zone recorded at the end of July and the beginning of August.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in July, Vietnam exported about 147,600 tons of coffee, worth 639.5 million USD. Accumulated in the first 7 months of the year, coffee exports reached about 1.2 million tons, an increase of 10.8% in volume but turnover decreased by 11.2%, to 5.45 billion USD. This development is mainly due to the average export price decreasing by 19.9% compared to the same period, down to 4,537 USD/ton.

Regarding the weather, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on the day and night of August 18, the Central Highlands area will have showers and thunderstorms in some places; especially in the afternoon and night there will be showers, scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. Lowest temperature 21-24 degrees C, in some places below 20 degrees C; highest 26-29 degrees C, in some places above 29 degrees C.

Rainstorms in this season need to be monitored in terms of garden care, pest and disease prevention, and goods preservation.
