Coffee prices today, October 23, 2026

World coffee prices have fallen sharply across the board.

The entire coffee market was awash in red. Downward trends on both the London and New York exchanges, coupled with pressure from the new crop supply, made the market more cautious. Today’s correction also stemmed from strong profit-taking by financial investors after the previous surge, combined with a slight shift in capital flows on futures exchanges.

Robusta coffee prices fell for the third consecutive session, dropping to just $3,301 per ton for the January 2027 futures contract. The main reason was pressure from increased supply. The start of a new harvest season in key coffee-growing regions of Vietnam, such as the Central Highlands, has somewhat eased concerns about short-term supply in the domestic market.

According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), Vietnam’s coffee production for the 2025-2026 crop year (from October 2025 to September 2026) is estimated at 31.7 million bags, equivalent to nearly 1.9 million tons, an increase of about 6-10% compared to the previous crop year. Of this, robusta will account for more than 90% of the total production. Exports in the 2025-2026 crop year are expected to total 1.8 million tons, a strong increase of 21% compared to the previous crop year.

ICE’s robusta coffee inventories have surged over the past six weeks, reaching a 13-month high of 6,488 lots as of October 22nd. This is putting downward pressure on robusta coffee prices, especially as Vietnam is also in the midst of its new 2026-2027 harvest.

Meanwhile, according to Barchart , arabica coffee prices fell in the latest trading session after ICE-certified arabica inventories increased by 4,847 bags on Wednesday (October 21), reaching 239,748 bags, compared to a five-week low of 234,901 bags recorded on October 20. This increase in inventories is consistent with reports earlier in the week indicating that nearly 28,000 bags of arabica coffee were awaiting sorting at the ICE Exchange, the highest level in over a month.

However, overall, ICE’s arabica inventories have been trending downward over the past month and are now only slightly above the 27-year low of 217,646 bags recorded on September 15th. This remains a fundamental factor supporting arabica coffee prices.

Despite price declines on Thursday (October 22), certified arabica production in New York remains low, while weather risks to upcoming crops continue to be factors that could trigger sharp price fluctuations.

According to analysts, although prices have fallen on the global market, current price levels remain relatively high due to fundamental factors such as weather conditions in South American countries and the fact that standardized inventories have not yet fully recovered. Today’s decline is more technical in nature than a long-term trend reversal.

Forecasts suggest that robusta coffee prices on the London exchange will soon find a balance point around $3,200-$3,300 per ton before a clearer trend emerges for the remainder of the year.

The evolution of certified inventories at international exchanges continues to be one of the key factors monitored by the market. Supply is increasing amidst market attention to the ability of consuming countries to meet demand, while weather risks in Asian production regions remain present.

Brazilian coffee exports are also attracting increasing attention. According to Cecafé data compiled by Terra Investimentos, the country’s coffee exports reached approximately 3.14 million bags as of October 21st, a 53.1% increase compared to the previous period. The recovery in trade may contribute to an increase in global supply, but the actual delivery of coffee to consumer markets and certified warehouses remains dependent on logistics and trade processes.

Domestic coffee prices have reversed course and are falling, with the domestic market approaching the 90,000 VND/kg mark.

Traders believe that, in the short term, domestic coffee prices are likely to continue to face slight downward pressure or consolidate sideways around 90,000 – 92,000 VND/kg as newly harvested supplies gradually enter the market. Seasonal selling pressure from farmers may slow down the upward trend in the next few weeks.

However, in the medium and long term, the downward trend is unlikely to continue significantly due to the continued high demand for imports from major consumer markets such as the EU and North America for the year-end holiday season. Farmers and cooperatives need to proactively monitor developments in the global market, balance harvesting and processing schedules to optimize sales timing, and avoid panic selling following short-term price corrections.

According to VICOFA, Vietnam’s coffee export value in the 2025-2026 crop year is projected to increase by nearly 1% compared to the previous year, reaching US$8.5 billion and setting a new record high. However, the growth rate in export value is significantly lower than the increase in export volume, due to a sharp drop in prices. In the 2025-2026 crop year, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee is expected to reach US$4,698 per ton, a decrease of 16.5% (US$929 per ton) compared to the previous year, marking the first decline after five consecutive years of growth.

Domestic coffee prices today, October 23rd, decreased by 500-600 VND/kg in some key producing regions. ( Unit: VND/kg)

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of October 2026, Vietnam exported 10,417 tons of pepper, worth US$69.1 million, a decrease of 4.6% in volume and 1.3% in value compared to the first half of September 2026, equivalent to a decrease of 498 tons.

Regarding markets, the US continued to be the largest export market, reaching 2,666 tons, accounting for 25.6% of total exports, a decrease of 8.2% compared to the first half of the previous month. China ranked second with 1,534 tons, accounting for 14.7%, a decrease of 27.8%. Exports to China decreased by 591 tons, a larger decrease than the overall decrease nationwide, indicating that this was the main factor dragging down total exports.

In the first 15 days of October 2026, Vietnam imported 659 tons of pepper, including 542 tons of black pepper and 117 tons of white pepper, with a value of US$4.2 million. Compared to the first half of September 2026, the import volume decreased by 31.3%, equivalent to a decrease of 300 tons, and the value decreased by 20.8%. Indonesia was the largest supplier with 202 tons, accounting for 30.7% of the total import volume, a decrease of 10.6% compared to the first half of the previous month.

Today’s export rice prices (October 23, 2026)

Raw material prices in the Mekong Delta region continue to remain stable. On the export market, rice prices generally remain steady, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

In Vietnam, the export price of 5% broken white rice fluctuates. 423–427 USD/ton.

Export prices for Jasmine rice decreased by $6/ton to $518-$522/ton, a slight increase of $1/ton.

The price of fragrant rice with 5% broken grains has increased to 470-475 USD/ton .

In Thailand, the price of 5% broken white rice is being offered at US$474–478 per ton, the highest among major rice exporting countries. Meanwhile, the price of 5% broken white rice from Pakistan is lower, fluctuating between US$408–412 per ton. In India, the price of the same type of white rice remains stable at US$384–388 per ton. The price of parboiled 5% broken rice from the country also shows no change, remaining in the range of US$380–384 per ton.

According to the FAO, global rice production for the 2026-2027 season is expected to decrease by 1.9%, to 553.1 million tons, due to shrinking producer margins and unfavorable weather conditions related to El Niño. Meanwhile, the USDA forecasts production at 533.9 million tons, down 3.4 million tons from its previous forecast and 2.2% from the 2025-2026 season.

According to data from the Customs Department, Vietnam’s rice exports in the first eight months of the year reached 6.03 million tons, worth $2.9 billion, a decrease of 5.1% in volume and 10.8% in value compared to the same period in 2015. The main reason is the decline in demand from some key markets, especially the Philippines.

Although global rice supply remains at risk due to the impact of El Niño, Vietnamese rice exports are projected to face pressure in the short term as demand from its two main markets, the Philippines and China, shows signs of slowing down.

The story of the import and export market.

The European Union’s (EU) new tariffs on low-value e-commerce imports are having a noticeable impact on Chinese platforms. In September, sales of Shein, Temu, and AliExpress in France continued to fall sharply, mainly due to a decline in customer numbers.

According to Les Echos on October 22nd, research by the cashback app Joko, based on data from 1.5 million consumers who connected their bank accounts to the app, showed that in the first four weeks of the post-summer holiday shopping season, sales by value decreased by 26% for Shein, 19% for Temu, and 24% for AliExpress.

According to Joko, the main reason is the 3 euro tax imposed by the EU from July 1st on shipments worth less than 150 euros transported by air. At the end of August, French customs reported that imports from China had decreased by 30-40% since the measure came into effect.

Data from Médiamétrie/NetRatings also shows a similar trend. In July, Shein’s user count decreased by 42.3% year-on-year, Temu by 36.4%, and AliExpress by 10.4%.

The decline in sales mainly stems from platforms losing customers. If we take the number of customers in Q2 2026 as a benchmark of 100, by the end of September, this figure had fallen to only 77 for Shein, 63 for Temu, and 70 for AliExpress. According to Joko’s experts, the new tax has reduced the price advantage, which is one of the most important factors in attracting consumers to Chinese platforms.

Even the loyal customer base is declining sharply. From June to September, the number of customers in this group decreased by 31% at Shein, 49% at Temu, and 40% at AliExpress.

Besides the 3 euro tax, several other factors could also affect the operations of Chinese platforms, including controversies surrounding illegal goods and reactions to Shein’s presence at the BHV department store in Paris.

France also began implementing an environmental surcharge on fast fashion on September 1st, ranging from 0.50 to 12 euros per item depending on its repairability. However, the process of identifying the platforms and products subject to the surcharge is complex, so it remains unclear how this measure will impact sales.

A notable development is that the average order value on Temu increased by 34% and AliExpress by 40% in September. According to Joko, this may indicate that the two platforms have passed on some of the costs incurred from taxes to the selling price. Meanwhile, Shein’s average order value remained almost unchanged, increasing by only 1%, suggesting that the platform may be employing a different strategy.

Despite significant impacts, Chinese platforms still maintain a large market share in France. According to the French Federation of E-commerce and Remote Selling (Fevad) and the French Fashion Institute (IFM), in July, Shein, Temu, and AliExpress still accounted for approximately 7% of the entire clothing market in the country.

In the first seven months of 2026, Shein remained the second-largest textile retailer in France, behind only Kiabi. With its large warehouse in Poland, Shein also has the ability to distribute goods from within the EU, thereby limiting the impact of tariffs on small shipments imported directly from outside the bloc.
