A recent medical study suggests that consuming tea could help protect you from type 2 diabetes.
This revelation comes from a study published in the ‘Journal of Nutrition and Diabetes’. It reveals that consuming foods rich in flavonoids can help prevent type 2 diabetes. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds that not only improve insulin sensitivity but also reduce levels of cholesterol in the blood.
The study examined data from over 113,000 individuals to explore the relationship between the consumption of flavonoid-rich foods and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
The results showed that the risk of type 2 diabetes decreased by up to 28% with the consumption of foods rich in flavonoids.
Tea has proven to be highly beneficial in this regard. Drinking 4 cups of black or green tea daily can reduce the risk of diabetes by up to 21%.
Furthermore, incorporating berries into your diet can lower the risk by 15% while eating an apple can reduce it by up to 12%.
Flavonoid-rich foods have significant effects on body weight, glucose metabolism, inflammation and the functions of the blood vessels and liver ultimately reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Experts emphasize the importance of further research in this area but they reassure that consuming foods rich in flavonoids poses no harm to health and offers numerous benefits.
