XAG/USD extends upside to near $33.20 on US credit downgrade

By |2025-05-21T20:58:41+03:00May 21, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • Silver price jumps to near $33.20 as the US Dollar underperforms on the US Sovereign Credit downgrade.
  • Moody’s downgraded the US credit rating by one notch to Aa1.
  • Investors await the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks in Vatican City.

Silver price (XAG/USD) hits a fresh weekly high to near $33.20 during North American trading hours on Wednesday. The white metal strengthens as the US Dollar (USD) extends its downside on the United States (US) credit rating erosion in the wake of large debt levels and escalated fiscal imbalances.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the Greenback’s value against six major currencies, slumps to near 99.50, the lowest level seen in two weeks. Technically, a soft US Dollar makes the Silver price a value bet for investors. Additionally, concerns over US credit erosion improve the safe-haven demand of non-yielding assets, such as Silver.

US Dollar PRICE Today

The table below shows the percentage change of US Dollar (USD) against listed major currencies today. US Dollar was the weakest against the Japanese Yen.

USD EUR GBP JPY CAD AUD NZD CHF

CHF 0.48% -0.01% 0.19% -0.09% -0.02% -0.04% -0.07%

The heat map shows percentage changes of major currencies against each other. The base currency is picked from the left column, while the quote currency is picked from the top row. For example, if you pick the US Dollar from the left column and move along the horizontal line to the Japanese Yen, the percentage change displayed in the box will represent USD (base)/JPY (quote).

On Friday, Moody’s downgraded the US Sovereign Credit rating by one notch to Aa1 from Aaa amid concerns over ballooning debt levels to near $36 trillion. The credit rating firm also warned of debt levels widening further, with US President Donald Trump aiming to pass a new tax-cut bill to fulfil his economic agenda.

However, Republican lawmakers didn’t back the new tax bill in a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill on Tuesday due to disagreement over higher deductions in state and local tax payments, according to a Republican Representative Mike Lawler, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, investors keep a close eye on the Russia-Ukraine truce talks in the Vatican City. On Monday, US President Trump confirmed immediate ceasefire talks between Moscow and Kyiv through a post on Truth. Social, but didn’t mention any specific timeframe. Trump expressed confidence that talks would be majorly about ending the war and not a temporary truce. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War,” Trump said. Signs of progress in the Russia-Ukraine truce talks towards ending the war will be unfavorable for safe-haven assets, such as Silver.

Silver technical analysis

Silver price delivers a breakout of the Descending Triangle formation on a daily timeframe, which results in a strong upside move. The near-term trend of the white metal is bullish as it holds the 20-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA), which trades around $32.65.

The 14-period Relative Strength Index (RSI) oscillates inside the 40.00-60.00 range, indicating a sideways trend. Should a fresh bullish momentum emerge if the RSI breaks above 60.00.

Looking up, the March 28 high of $34.60 will act as key resistance for the metal. On the downside, the April 11 low of $30.90 will be the key support zone.

Silver FAQs

Silver is a precious metal highly traded among investors. It has been historically used as a store of value and a medium of exchange. Although less popular than Gold, traders may turn to Silver to diversify their investment portfolio, for its intrinsic value or as a potential hedge during high-inflation periods. Investors can buy physical Silver, in coins or in bars, or trade it through vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds, which track its price on international markets.

Silver prices can move due to a wide range of factors. Geopolitical instability or fears of a deep recession can make Silver price escalate due to its safe-haven status, although to a lesser extent than Gold’s. As a yieldless asset, Silver tends to rise with lower interest rates. Its moves also depend on how the US Dollar (USD) behaves as the asset is priced in dollars (XAG/USD). A strong Dollar tends to keep the price of Silver at bay, whereas a weaker Dollar is likely to propel prices up. Other factors such as investment demand, mining supply – Silver is much more abundant than Gold – and recycling rates can also affect prices.

Silver is widely used in industry, particularly in sectors such as electronics or solar energy, as it has one of the highest electric conductivity of all metals – more than Copper and Gold. A surge in demand can increase prices, while a decline tends to lower them. Dynamics in the US, Chinese and Indian economies can also contribute to price swings: for the US and particularly China, their big industrial sectors use Silver in various processes; in India, consumers’ demand for the precious metal for jewellery also plays a key role in setting prices.

Silver prices tend to follow Gold’s moves. When Gold prices rise, Silver typically follows suit, as their status as safe-haven assets is similar. The Gold/Silver ratio, which shows the number of ounces of Silver needed to equal the value of one ounce of Gold, may help to determine the relative valuation between both metals. Some investors may consider a high ratio as an indicator that Silver is undervalued, or Gold is overvalued. On the contrary, a low ratio might suggest that Gold is undervalued relative to Silver.

Pound to Dollar Forecast: GBP Gains on USD Weakness, UK Inflation

By |2025-05-21T20:57:29+03:00May 21, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

May 21, 2025 – Written by David Woodsmith

A combination of U.S. Dollar weakness and stronger than expected UK inflation triggered a surge in the Pound to Dollar (GBP/USD) exchange rate to 3-year highs just below 1.3470.

The pair, however, was unable to hold the gains and retreated to 1.3410 as the Pound dipped and the dollar recovered from Asian lows.

A sustained break above 1.3445/50 remains key to generating further medium-term gains.

According to UoB; “based on the current momentum, any advance might find the late April high of 1.3445 difficult to break.”

Markets now consider that a June Bank of England rate cut is very unlikely, but the longer-term debate is continuing to rage amid the debate over underlying inflation.

According to the ONS, the headline year-on-year inflation rate posting a stronger than expected surge to 3.5% from 2.6% previously and above consensus forecasts of 3.3%.

The core rate increased to 3.8% from 3.4% and above market expectations of 3.6%.

A key element was the increase in retail energy prices. There was also upward pressure from transport, recreation and culture which was offset by some weakness in clothing and footwear.

The goods inflation rate increased to 1.7% from 0.6% while the services-sector rate jumped to 5.4% from 4.7%.

Following the data, markets were less confident that there would be two further rate cuts this year, but views were mixed.

Luke Bartholomew, deputy chief economist at the fund manager Aberdeen; “we think a quarterly profile of rate cuts remains appropriate, but the chance of the easing cycle speeding up any time soon has fallen.

Goldman Sachs economist James Moberly sees a June cut as being off the agenda, but does not expect further increases in inflation and added; “in fact, we see services inflation falling back below the BoE’s projections later in the year.”

He added; “Given the restrictive policy stance, notable labour market loosening, a likely deceleration in pay growth, and a softer near-term demand outlook, we therefore continue to expect the Bank to accelerate the pace of cuts in the second half.”

In contrast, Berenberg considers that the BoE might not be able to cut rates again this year if services inflation increases further; “That would be evidence that demand is solid enough for companies to pass on increases in their costs, and force the Bank of England to take an extended pause in their cutting cycle until services inflation is on a downward path again.”

The dollar index retreated to 2-week lows before a tentative recovery.

Danske Bank commented; “This seems reflective of the fiscal jitters related to last week’s downgrade from Moody’s and the overly accommodative tax bill now being discussed in Congress.”

ING commented; “Periods of data silence often serve as a useful gauge of the market’s underlying bias in FX. So far this week, the tendency to add to USD short positions has been clear.”

There will be a series of G7 meetings in Canada over the next few days with speculation that the US will push for other countries to strengthen their currencies as part of any trade deals.

ING added; “If current speculation proves accurate – and the US is pushing for stronger trading partner currencies – it could not only prompt sharp appreciation in those currencies but also weigh on the dollar more broadly.”

MUFG added; “any sign of pushing trading partners in Asia (Japan this week) to conducting less or stopping US dollar buying intervention would likely trigger further big moves weaker for the dollar.”

If there are no hints over a preference for a weaker US currency, there could be scope for the dollar to recover ground.

Green Tea Tested for PFAS “Forever Chemicals” – Guide

By |2025-05-21T20:46:24+03:00May 21, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Which Green Teas do not have PFAS “forever chemicals” inside the tea leaves? This is the question we attempted to answer when we sent the most popular green tea brands used inside our community to an EPA-certified laboratory to have the tea leaves tested for 40 PFAS analytes. You’ve trusted Mamavation to bring you consumer studies like safest olive oils tested for phthalatessafest coffee tested for PFAS, mycotoxins, & pesticidessafest water filters, & safest cookware, now join us for our latest study testing popular green teas for forty specific PFAS compounds.

Green Tea Tested for PFAS “Forever Chemicals” – Guide

Traces of PFAS “Forever Chemicals” Were Found in Half the Green Tea Leaves

Mamavation’s EPA-certified laboratory found per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS “forever chemicals”) in 12 popular green tea leaves. These chemicals are linked to serious health effects, which we will discuss later. Because PFAS “forever chemicals” are so problematic to normal hormone action, Mamavation has commissioned our own scientific studies on PFAS in food products to make recommendations for the safest green teas. Continue reading Mamavation’s article on these products to find which brands have the safest green tea according to our laboratory.

For this consumer study, Mamavation sent 12 popular green teas from 12 brands to an EPA-certified laboratory looking for specific PFAS compounds. The tea leaves were tested for 40 PFAS chemicals. Because Mamavation only tested one product per brand, we cannot claim to know if these issues are, in fact, industry-wide or brand-wide. However, based on our “spot-check” of the industry, this is what we found:

  • 50% of green tea leaves had detectable PFAS “forever chemicals,’ according to our lab. That’s 6 out of 12 green tea brands tested that had PFAS.
  • 33% of green tea leaves had quantifiable levels of PFAS “forever chemicals” according to our lab. This means the levels of PFAS found were high enough to quantify. That’s 4 out of 12 green tea brands.
  • The most common type of PFAS found by our lab was PFOA, Perfluorooctanoic acid.
  • Ranges of PFOA: 0.103  ng/g  to 0.397 ng/g. ng/g is parts per billion (ppb).

Linda S. Birnbaum, Scientist Emeritus and Former Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program & Scholar in Residence at Duke University, Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina, & Yale University had this to say: “It’s disappointing to find PFAS inside Green Tea. This relaxing tea is used by billions of people around the world, and exposure to these hormone-disrupting chemicals is problematic for human health.”

PFAS “Forever Chemicals” Have Problematic Health Effects

PFAS “forever chemicals” are problematic for human health and the environment. They are considered ubiquitous, persistent, and toxic. Therefore, reducing the amount of PFAS you are exposed to from food, water, and other beverages like tea is imperativeMamavation is dedicated to helping you do that when shopping for tea.

Here are some of the adverse health effects of different PFAS “forever chemicals:”

It’s also very clear, based on biomonitoring evidence from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), that PFAS are in all Americans. Therefore, these exposures can harm most Americans.

Specific PFAS Found by Mamavation’s Laboratory

Mamavation’s laboratory found 6 PFAS chemicals within all the green tea leaves sent to the lab. Although we were not able to get specific details of where each brand’s sourcing farms were located, most of the geographic regions sourced from based on marketing materials and customer service inquiries, were in China, Japan, & Vietnam. These chemicals are listed as the most commonly found in our study. The chemical found most often was PFOA, which was found in 3 products.

  • PFOA: Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is the most well-studied PFAS chemical with a wide variety of adverse health effects in both animals and people. This chemical has been classified as carcinogenic to humans by WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)and the US EPA. Many PFAS, such as PFOA, do not break down in the environment via natural processes and are commonly referred to as “forever chemicals” because of their status as a persistent organic pollutant (POP).  PFOA is known to move through the environment and contaminate drinking water and soil as it bioaccumulates. Residues have been consistently found throughout the world in wildlife, humans, and the environment. PFOA is also very persistent in people.
  • PFPeA: Perfluoropentanoic acid (PFPeA) is a lesser-known PFAS compound most notably found in firefighting foams, industrial surfactants, stain-resistant coatings for textiles, carpets, and furniture. PFPeA is an example of “short-chain” PFAS compounds which were created to replace “long-chain” PFAS, such as PFOA and PFOS. Although PFPeA has not been studied intensively,  such “short-chain” PFAS chemicals are also very persistent in the environment and can get into places where they were not expected to be found. In animal studies, this chemical has also been linked to liver problems, inflammatory responses, and immune issues. North Carolina is the state where this chemical is most often found in the water supply. This chemical is part of a family of perfluoroalkyl carboxylates, which is similar in structure to PFOA but with a carbon chain length of only 5 carbons. PFPeA can also be found in the body due to dermal contact.
  • PFHpA:  Perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), which has 7 carbon atoms, is considered a short-chain PFAS chemical. These perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids and their salts are used as surfactants that reduce the surface tension of water and other organic liquids. These acids and derivatives are used as wetting, dispersing, emulsifying, and foaming agents in commerce. Health effects include harm to development and the liver.
  • PFBA: Perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) is a breakdown chemical of other PFAS used in stain-resistant fabrics, paper food packaging, and carpets. PFBA was also used for manufacturing photographic film. 3M Company was once a major manufacturer of PFBA and products containing PFBA, but their production was phased out in 1998. PFBA continues to be produced by multiple companies in the US and other parts of the world. Exposure to high levels of PFBA resulted in thyroid and liver effects, such as increased thyroid, changes in thyroid hormones, and decreased cholesterol in animal studies. Many PFAS do not break down in the environment via natural processes and are commonly referred to as “forever chemicals” because of their status as a persistent organic pollutant (POP). PFBA is known to move through the environment and contaminate drinking water and soil as it bioaccumulates. Residues have been consistently found worldwide in wildlife, humans, and the environment.
  • 6:2FTS: 6:2-Fluorotelomersulfonic acid (6:2FTS) is a replacement chemical for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) used in fire-fighting foams and chromium plating. Although 6:2FTS has not been studied intensively,  such “short-chain” PFAS chemicals have already become very persistent in the environment and can get into places where they were not expected to be found.
  • ADONA: 4,8-dioxa-3H-perfluorononanoate (ADONA) was an early alternative to PFOA, used in the production of fluoropolymers since 2008, but studies have proved this chemical is also problematic to human health, just like the other substitutions were.

Recent Studies on PFAS in Teas Have Demonstrated Widespread Contamination

The past five years have seen a flurry of studies looking at specific PFAS compounds and certain foods and beverages like tea. One study claimed that people who drank more tea were more likely to have higher levels of PFAS in their blood. Here are some recent examples of studies done on teas:

Because tea is an everyday product used by millions of families in the United States, Mamavation wanted to establish which green tea brands would be considered the “safest” in terms of PFAS. We’ve also done some additional testing of other teas:

Terrence Collins, Teresa Heinz Professor of Green Chemistry & Director of the Institute for Green Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University had this to say about the study: “This study looks at an important question for green tea drinkers. Are ‘forever chemicals’, PFAS compounds that the human body cannot break down and tends to hold on to, in the product contaminant profile? The results speak for themselves. No one wants to be ingesting PFAS when they drink green tea! It’s somewhat comforting that PFAS contamination is not universal, at least in Mamavation’s spot-testing. Green tea drinkers are now armed with the knowledge to send messages of approval or disapproval through their buying habits across the green tea business world.”

Ethereum ($ETH) Price Prediction for May 22

By |2025-05-21T20:45:19+03:00May 21, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

After last week’s explosive surge, the Ethereum price today is trading near $2,558, reflecting a measured gain of 0.26% over the last 24 hours. Although buyers pushed ETH as high as $2,615 on May 20, the rally lost steam near a key resistance zone, leading to a mild pullback. With volatility tightening and lower-timeframe indicators flashing mixed signals, traders are now assessing whether bulls can maintain upward momentum or if a short-term correction looms.

Following this corrective pause, the broader question emerging is: Why Ethereum price going down today, and is this pullback just a breather within a bullish continuation or the start of a deeper retracement?

What’s Happening With Ethereum’s Price?

From a daily perspective, the Ethereum price action has remained bullish since reclaiming the $2,400 level in early May. The sharp breakout above the descending trendline and the reclaim of the 100-day EMA have now turned previous resistance into support. The daily structure shows ETH attempting to form a higher high pattern as it tests the upper boundary of the $2,580–$2,620 supply zone that capped upside during February.

Looking at the weekly chart, ETH remains above the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level near $2,424, with its next major resistance lying near $2,745 — the 0.5 Fib zone from the broader decline between November 2023 and March 2025. This confirms the ongoing recovery, although a break above $2,600 is still needed to confirm trend extension.

Ethereum Price Action Slows as RSI and MACD Diverge

On the 4-hour chart, Ethereum price shows signs of consolidation following last week’s vertical rally. RSI has slipped from overbought territory to 54.93, reflecting fading momentum. Simultaneously, the MACD histogram is flattening, and the lines have begun to converge, pointing toward potential short-term indecision. While no bearish crossover is confirmed yet, the setup hints at caution.

The 30-minute Stochastic RSI shows a sharper drop, with the blue line falling to 5.42, well into oversold territory. This could suggest that downside may be limited in the immediate term — especially if $2,520 support holds firm.

Bollinger Bands on the 4-hour chart are still expanding, signaling sustained Ethereum price volatility ahead. However, recent candles show rejection from the upper band, reinforcing resistance near $2,610. If price compresses further below this level, expect a volatility breakout by May 22.

Why Ethereum Price Going Down Today?

ETH faced sharp intraday rejection from $2,615, which coincides with a historically reactive resistance zone. The move also aligned with the top of the Bollinger Band on the 4H chart and the top boundary of the Ichimoku cloud on the 30-minute timeframe — both strong reversal triggers in short-term trading systems.

Adding to this, the Stoch RSI on lower timeframes suggests overbought exhaustion, with a swing low setup forming around $2,530. With speculative longs unwinding, the Ethereum price update shows minor but notable pressure on the upside.

Despite this, the broader structure remains bullish. The key now lies in whether bulls can absorb selling pressure around $2,520–$2,530 and reclaim $2,580 in the next 24 hours. A failure to defend $2,520 could invite deeper tests toward the $2,465–$2,475 demand zone.

Ethereum Price Forecast for May 22: Can $2,600 Be Reclaimed?

If bulls can successfully flip the $2,580–$2,600 region into support, the path toward $2,745 (Fib 0.5) remains open. Beyond that, $2,850 and $3,000 would be the next natural targets — both psychologically and structurally.

However, failure to defend $2,520 could result in a dip to $2,465 and potentially $2,424 (Fib 0.382), where significant accumulation occurred during last week’s rally. The Ichimoku cloud base and Bollinger midline on the 4H also sit around this zone, making it a critical support region.

Until then, price may remain range-bound between $2,520 and $2,600. Traders should monitor RSI behavior around 50 and MACD crossovers for signs of breakout or breakdown confirmation.

ETH Technical Forecast Table: May 22

Indicator/Zone Level (USD) Signal
Resistance 1 2,615 Near-term rejection zone
Resistance 2 2,745 Fib 0.5 & breakout target
Support 1 2,520 Short-term bullish defense line
Support 2 2,465 Structure + cloud bottom
RSI (4H) 54.93 Neutral to mild bullish
MACD (30-min) -0.25 Flattening
Stoch RSI (30-min) 5.42 Oversold
Bollinger Band Width Expanding Volatility brewing

Is Hydrogen Water Good for You?

By |2025-05-21T19:51:46+03:00May 21, 2025|Fitness News, News|0 Comments

Contrary to popular belief, the most epic coupling of all time isn’t peanut butter and jelly. It’s not even peanut butter and chocolate. It’s hydrogen and oxygen.

See, when two hydrogen atoms love each other very much, they bind with an oxygen atom and you get water. And that spicy threesome, my friends, is basically the foundation of life.

The human body is approximately 60% water — we can’t live without it. From the skin on your scalp to the tissue in your toes — your body depends on H2O to function properly.

That said, sometimes the classic water cooler can feel a bit basic considering all the flavors and vitamin enhancements that are out there for hydration these days.

One of the latest options is hydrogen water. You’ve probably seen advertisements or reels on social media. The enhanced H2O blend is said to offer a wide range of health benefits that may increase energy, boost immunity and decrease inflammation that leads to chronic disease.

But as the old saying goes: You can’t believe everything user Thirsty97 posts online.

Here’s what you need to know about the potential health benefits of hydrogen water.

What is hydrogen water?

Hydrogen water is regular H2O with added molecular hydrogen gas (H2). It’s also called hydrogen-rich water or hydrogen-infused water.

The idea is that the added hydrogen isn’t bonded to oxygen, so your body will absorb its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may benefit your health.

Hydrogen water benefits

Research is ongoing regarding the health benefits of drinking hydrogen water. But there are some small studies that link the H2-boosted beverage to certain health perks.

  • Reduced inflammation: A 2020 study found that adults who drank 1.5 liters of hydrogen water a day for a month had reduced inflammatory responses.
  • Improved athletic performance: A 2021 study of trained and untrained cyclists found that drinking hydrogen water for seven days improved performance and reduced fatigue for trained cyclists — but not for the untrained cyclists. Another study found that drinking hydrogen-rich water before working out reduced fatigue, especially toward the end of the exercise.
  • Better aging: Hydrogen may reduce oxidative stress, which can speed up aging. One study found that drinking hydrogen water for six months had a positive effect on many factors associated with aging, including an increase in choline, a neurotransmitter that regulates memory, mood and muscle control.
  • Improved mental health: One study found that drinking hydrogen water daily for a month led to improvements in mood and anxiety.
  • Improved heart health: Hydrogen has known anti-inflammatory properties that may improve heart health. One study found that participants who drank hydrogen water for 10 weeks decreased the “bad” cholesterol (LDL) levels in the blood.

In addition to drinking hydrogen-rich water, one study found that hydrogen water baths and applying hydrogen water-soaked towels to the face improved the appearance of wrinkles and blotches on skin.

Hydrogen water negative side effects

Overall, hydrogen water is considered safe and most studies have not reported significant negative side effects, according to the Food and Drug Administration. However, the amount of hydrogen added to products isn’t regulated and there’s no industry guideline for how much added hydrogen is needed to achieve potential health benefits.

How to make hydrogen water

You can add more H to your H2O in various ways. Hydrogen water is available in pre-packaged products and beverages. You can also add hydrogen tablets to your water or purchase a high-tech speciality water bottle or water system to infuse it for you.

Is hydrogen water good for you?

The research behind hydrogen water appears promising, but much more research, including longer-term studies of a range of different types of people, is needed to better understand the potential health benefits. And purchasing hydrogen products can be expensive.

Bottom line: Water doesn’t have to be fancy. Like you, it’s great how it is.

Dollar Slides as Moody’s Downgrade Shakes Confidence

The U.S. dollar index (.DXY) slipped to a two-week low following Moody’s downgrade of the U.S. government’s credit rating last Friday. The downgrade cited rising fiscal risk and projected deficit expansion under President Trump’s proposed tax cuts. UBS analysts noted that the downgrade triggered a fresh round of dollar selling, supporting gold by making it more attractive to foreign buyers.

In FX markets, the dollar weakened across the board. It fell to 144.095 yen and dropped 0.7% against the Swiss franc. Traders are now watching U.S.-Japan discussions, which may touch on currency management and volatility. With Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expected to meet his Japanese counterpart this week, any signal favoring a weaker dollar could give gold bulls more fuel.

Bond Market Roiled by Fiscal Fears

Long-end Treasury yields jumped on Wednesday, as the 30-year yield topped 5% and the 10-year yield hit 4.5%, spurred by expectations that the Trump administration’s tax bill could deepen the deficit by up to $5 trillion. According to Deutsche Bank, final outcomes on the tax bill will significantly shape near-term deficit projections.

Bridgewater’s Ray Dalio added to the pessimism, warning that the real risk is not default, but inflation triggered by the Federal Reserve potentially printing money to manage debt service. This sentiment, echoed in the bond market, is driving capital into gold as investors seek a hedge against monetary debasement.

EUR/USD, USD/JPY and AUD/USD Forecast – US Dollar Softens Early on Wednesday

By |2025-05-21T18:56:24+03:00May 21, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

USD/JPY Technical Analysis

The US dollar has fallen pretty significantly during the early hours on Wednesday against the Japanese yen, which partially is due to the fact that the interest rates in Japan are spiking all of a sudden. In fact, Japanese government bonds have literally had no bids for two days. What this means is eventually the Bank of Japan is going to have to step in and drive yields down.

So, this is a market that I’m looking at very closely because it hasn’t broken yet. But if and when the Japanese come in and start doing yield curve control, that will put the yen on the back foot. In the short term, we have a lot of support right in this general vicinity. So, although I want to get long of this market in the long term, I’m waiting for that momentum candle.

AUD/USD Technical Analysis

The Australian dollar has rallied a bit during the trading session on Wednesday in the early hours, but it also looks like we are struggling. I think quite frankly, this is a market where money went to die. There’s just nothing here, and we’re stuck in the same range that we have been in for quite some time. If you are a short-term trader, then you like this setup because the 0.6350 level underneath offers massive support, while the 0.65 level above offers massive resistance. As we continue to chop back and forth, again, if you’re a short-term trader, this is your market. If you’re looking for a bigger trade, we have to break out of this consolidation area first.

Supplement industry responds to headlines linking taurine to cancer

By |2025-05-21T18:44:55+03:00May 21, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

The Natural Products Association (NPA) trade organization stated that contrary to sensationalized headlines and speculative conclusions, the study does not demonstrate that dietary taurine intake causes leukemia or poses a safety risk to consumers.

“While the media and the authors are unabashedly and irresponsibly positioning the study that dietary intake of taurine leads to leukemia, nothing could be further from the truth,” said Daniel Fabricant, PhD, president and CEO at NPA.

Conducted by researchers from University of Rochester Medical Center and published in the journal Nature on May 14, the study was quickly picked up by local and national news sources.

Although not aligned with the study findings, headlines included “Common Energy Drink Ingredient Linked to Blood Cancer” and “Could Your Energy Drink Be Feeding Cancer? What Scientists Just Discovered.”

Linking taurine to leukemia

Taurine, which was first isolated by German scientists in 1827 from ox bile, is a semi-essential amino acid found in meat, fish, eggs and seaweed. It is naturally occurring in the human body and supports digestive, cardiovascular, skeletal, eye, muscular and nervous system functions.

More recently, studies have explored its potential as healthy aging compound due to its ability to scavenge the toxic effects of reactive oxygen species that damage cells over time. NPA also highlighted taurine’s critical role in bone health and the function of bone marrow stem cells.

In the University of Rochester study, the investigators from the Wilmot Cancer Institute reported that they were able to block the growth of leukemia in mouse models and in human leukemia cell samples by using genetic tools to prevent taurine from entering cancer cells.

“We are very excited about these studies because they demonstrate that targeting uptake by myeloid leukemia cells may be a possible new avenue for treatment of these aggressive diseases,” Jeevisha Bajaj, PhD, lead author on the study, shared in University of Rochester Medical Center press release titled “A Downside of Taurine: It Drives Leukemia Growth.”

Commenting on the study, Dr. Mark Miller, PhD, MBA, FACN, CNS, president of Kaiviti Consulting, said the findings suggest that taurine may exacerbate myeloid leukemia, especially as it is often used during chemotherapy, but that some may misinterpret that taurine promotes cancer in a healthy population.

“What the study shows is that cancer cells (done in vitro and in mouse models) are energy hogs, and through glycolytic pathways, taurine (and its transporter systems) can help supply the energy cancer cells need,” he explained. “In other words, the study shows that it helps pre-established cancer cells propagate.”

He added that, based on this research, which uses doses hundreds of times in excess than those found in dietary supplements, taurine supplementation should not be a cause for any concern.

The problem with extrapolating conclusions

While the study focuses on aspects of energy availability that support cancer cell replication and growth, the researchers included one sentence cautioning against taurine supplementation—the sentence picked up by the media.

“Since taurine is a common ingredient in energy drinks and is often provided as a supplement to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy, our work suggests that it may be of interest to carefully consider the benefits of supplemental taurine in leukemia patients,” they wrote.

Jeff Ventura, vice president of communications at the Council for Responsible Nutrition, said the problem is that media coverage of the study has been sensationalized by making it sound like taurine is dangerous to the general public.

“In reality, this research looked at a very specific and rare type of leukemia in mice, using genetic tools and lab models that don’t reflect how taurine is used in everyday life,” he noted.

“The study doesn’t say anything about the safety of taurine for healthy people or suggest that normal dietary or supplement use is harmful. You have to consider that taurine has a long track record of benefits for heart, brain and overall health. Suggesting that taurine is broadly dangerous based on this study is a big headline-grabbing leap.”

NPA emphasized that taurine has well-established safety profiles, as recognized by health authorities around the world.

“These authorities have consistently found no adverse effects at daily intake levels ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 mg, and in some cases, even higher amounts have been deemed safe,” the association shared in a press release, noting that this latest study “does absolutely nothing” to change this well-document safety record.

“The research is looking at isolated cell signaling—applying that broadly to all supplemental or energy drink intake is plain irresponsible and appears to be a scare tactic to generate funding and media attention,” Dr. Fabricant added.

“If the study didn’t mention supplements, it’s unlikely anyone outside of a research lab would have even noticed it. This is not a human safety study. It is a laboratory study and should be treated as such.”

How high can Bitcoin price go?

By |2025-05-21T18:44:23+03:00May 21, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Key takeaways:

  • Bitcoin gained 14% since May 5, breaking $108,000  for the first time since January.

  • Targets of $140,000 and even $200,000 are increasingly discussed for 2025.

Bitcoin (BTC) price has climbed by more than 14% since May 5, rallying to $107,000 on May 21.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that the price of Bitcoin rose 3.6% to a four-month high of $108,000 on May 21 from a low of $104,200 the previous day.

The last time BTC/USD traded above this level was on Jan. 20, when President Donald Trump’s inauguration fueled BTC’s price rally to $109,350 all-time high.

Bitcoin’s price rise coincides with a marketwide rally, with the global crypto market capitalization rising above $3.36 trillion for the first time since Feb. 3.

The uptrend has left market participants wondering how much higher Bitcoin prices can go before a significant correction.

Bitcoin price inches toward new highs

Bitcoin’s latest recovery has sparked optimism among market analysts and traders, who expect BTC to blast toward new all-time highs.

Bitcoin is going to all-time highs today, said popular analyst AlphaBTC in a May 21 post on X.

An accompanying chart showed Bitcoin’s price trading within an extended ascending parallel channel since it began its recovery on April 9.

As of May 21, BTC’s price was trading 2.5% below its all-time high of over $109,000, which was the next major resistance. If this barrier is broken, AlphaBTC anticipates $115,000 as the next likely target.

“It seems inevitable that $BTC takes out the ATH soon, this grind and pop (squeeze) price action is being driven by bigger players that have their targets and know what it takes to use the bears shorting every pop to move the price higher.”

“Bitcoin is going to an all-time high faster than I expected,” said MN Capital founder Michael van de Poppe in a May 20 post on X.

According to van de Poppe, BTC price could rise as high as $200,000  “because more and more people are done with the constant devaluation of the dollar.”

Fellow analyst Mags said the price was entering its “biggest bull run ever,” projecting a possible top around $215,000 based on Bitcoin’s four-year halving cycle.

Meanwhile, network economist Timothy Peterson used statistical analysis to assume a trip to at least $115,000 by the end of June, setting a possible top under $130,000.

BTC rounded bottom pattern targets $140K

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s price has formed a rounded bottom chart pattern on the daily chart (see below). Bulls are now focused on pushing the price above the neckline of the prevailing chart pattern at $106,000.

A daily candlestick close above this level would confirm a bullish breakout from the rounded bottom formation, ushering BTC into price discovery with the technical target set at $140,956, or a 37% increase from the current level.

The relative strength index, or RSI, is at 69, suggesting there is still room to run, particularly with an impending golden cross.

As Cointelegraph reported, a move to new all-time highs above $110,000 is possible by the end of this week, backed by BTC accumulation across all holder cohorts.
