Having matcha tea improves sleep as you age? Here’s what a study from Japan found | Health

By |2025-04-24T11:50:59+02:00April 24, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Apr 24, 2025 01:38 PM IST

A study found that matcha consumption significantly improved emotional perception in older adults with mild cognitive decline.

Matcha tea is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It was earlier popular in Japan but is now enjoyed worldwide because of its health benefits. A study published in PLOS ONE has given an insight into matcha green tea’s effects on cognitive decline in older adults and revealed some promising results. Here’s what was found. Regular matcha consumption may offer a strategy for cognitive enhancement with age, per a study. (Pexels)

Matcha tea linked to better emotional perception

The yearlong study of older adults with cognitive decline in Japan found that drinking matcha green tea improved participants’ emotional perception and sleep quality. The study included Japanese older adults between 60 and 85 years of age.

Matcha is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which are believed to help neutralise harmful free radicals and may contribute to overall health.

Can drinking matcha lead to better sleep quality?

Study author Kazuhiko Uchida and his colleagues set out to examine the effects of matcha capsules, a dietary supplement, on cognitive functioning and sleep quality in older individuals with subjective or mild cognitive decline.

The results showed that matcha supplementation improved participants’ emotional perception, as measured by tests requiring the identification of facial emotions. Having matcha green tea also showed a trend toward improving sleep quality, although the results were not dramatic. However, matcha consumption did not significantly affect overall cognitive functioning or daily living abilities in the study participants.

More about the study

Participants were recruited from the University of Tsukuba Hospital and the Memory Clinic Toride, both in Japan. To be eligible, participants had to live with a partner who could help manage supplement intake and accompany them to appointments.

They also had to have either subjective cognitive decline or mild cognitive impairment, have no serious illnesses in the past five years, and not be diagnosed with dementia or taking dementia treatments. The study included 64 participants with subjective cognitive decline and 35 with mild cognitive impairment.

ADA Poised to Reach $100 Billion Market Cap Ahead of Dogecoin

By |2025-04-24T11:45:37+02:00April 24, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

While Dogecoin walks a tightrope, Cardano’s price prediction suggests the best is yet to come—thanks to its impressive development, which contrasts with the former’s focus on meme culture alone. This ingenuity is the same reason analysts and investors are flocking to the new PayFi altcoin, . Within four months alone, its token presale surged from $4 million to a whopping $14.5 million, and the momentum isn’t slowing down.

This new cross-border protocol targets the $190 trillion cross-border payment market, which is plagued by centralized control, slow transaction times, and hidden charges. Remittix drew inspiration from Ripple’s early innovation and built a swifter, scalable, cost-efficient, and regulatory-compliant way to transfer crypto and more than 30 fiat currencies globally.

Besides, Remittix’s e-commerce-friendly enterprise PayFi API protocol has made it easier for businesses to serve Web2 and Web3 consumers seamlessly. The presale is still on! Over $14.5 million has already been raised, and the price is still at $0.0757. The price is more than a steal for an altcoin that promises a mouthwatering 8% APY on staking and a zero vesting period.

Michaela Blyde

Namita Nayyar:

You were born in New Plymouth, New Zealand. You attended New Plymouth Girls High School. From 2009 to 2013 you competed in athletics in the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump. You started playing rugby at the age of five years, and joined local rugby club, Clifton. Alongside representing New Zealand you played for your school in the 2013 Condor Sevens, which was the first time New Plymouth Girls High had fielded a team in this National Secondary Schools Rugby Sevens competition. You were named Player of the Tournament and were also selected for the tournament team. This later propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as a women rugby player. Tell us more about your professional journey of exceptional hard work, tenacity, and endurance?

Michaela Blyde:

When I was first named in the New Zealand Women’s 7s squad in 2012, I was still at school so I was juggling the balance of training plus school plus homework. It was tricky but with the support of my parents I was able to graduate high school and still receive a training contract. But my love for professional sport started when I was 5 years old. I had a dream of competing at the Olympic Games and win gold in the 100m and 200m, so I would vision myself doing just that every time I competed at athletics track events. I also loved the feeling of getting fitter, faster and stronger so I would train after school either with my siblings and Mum at home, or have team sports training after school when I was playing football.

My parents are dairy farmers in Taranaki which means no days off, so I was used to seeing hard work every day as my parents epitomized what it means to work hard to put food on the table. They always encouraged me and my brothers to do the extras to make sure we were ahead of everyone else.

Namita Nayyar:

It is a dream for a rugby player to play in the Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, You scored seven tries in five matches, including in the final, which New Zealand won, earning you a gold medal. Tell us more about this spectacular achievement of yours?

Michaela Blyde:

It was the moment my 20 year old (at the time) dream came true. All the hard work that I put in to win an Olympic Gold paid off so it was a very overwhelming feeling, I immediately thought about that 5 year old Michaela who had a big dream and didn’t let anyone tell her it wasn’t possible. I had my ups and downs, non-selections, injuries, but I kept my goals focused on the bigger picture and just simply never gave up. But I also wasn’t fully satisfied winning a gold medal in front of no one due to COVID restrictions so I was also very hungry to do the hard work all over again to try winning another one in Paris 2024. I also felt like I didn’t play my best rugby so I was also very determined to be better physically and mentally for Paris.

The EURJPY moves slowly– Forecast today – 24-4-2025

By |2025-04-24T09:50:45+02:00April 24, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

The EURJPY pair provided several slow sideways range trading, due to its neediness to the negative momentum, but its main stability below the bearish channel’s resistance at 163.00 makes us keep the negative suggestion in the near and medium period trading.

Stochastic exit from the overbought level will increase the chances for gaining negative momentum, to reinforce the chances of targeting negative stations, which might begin at 161.30 and 160.30, while moving to the bullish track requires forming a strong bullish attack, to provide several positive closes above 163.25 level, then begin recording several gains by its rally to 164.20.

The expected trading range for today is between 160.35 and 162.65

Trend forecast: Bearish

Fifth time lucky? Chinese restaurant chain Green Tea makes another Hong Kong IPO attempt

By |2025-04-24T09:49:39+02:00April 24, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Mainland Chinese restaurant chain Green Tea Group has received approval from the Hong Kong stock exchange for an initial public offering (IPO), marking its fifth attempt in four years to go public in the city.

The Hangzhou-based budget-dining chain said in a filing on Wednesday that the exchange’s listing committee had approved the proposal.

While the company has not yet disclosed the amount it intends to raise, a notice from the Chinese securities regulator on March 28 showed that Green Tea planned to offer nearly 213 million ordinary shares in Hong Kong. Chinese companies are required to obtain approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission before pursuing an overseas listing.

Green Tea plans to use the IPO proceeds to expand its restaurant network, establish a centralised food processing facility, upgrade its information technology system and related infrastructure, and for working capital.

Hong Kong ranked third globally for IPOs in the first quarter, with 15 companies raising HK$17.7 billion. Photo: Jonathan Wong

Green Tea filed its Hong Kong listing application for the first time in March 2021. The company submitted its most recent application in December, aiming to capitalise on the revival in the IPO market late last year.

XAG/USD bulls have the upper hand while above $33.00 hurdle breakpoint

By |2025-04-24T07:50:21+02:00April 24, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • Silver retreats after touching a fresh multi-month high during the Asian session on Thursday.
  • The technical setup favors bulls and supports prospects for the emergence of some dip-buyers.
  • A convincing break below the $32.00 mark is needed to negate the near-term positive outlook.

Silver (XAG/USD) attracts some sellers after hitting a nearly three-week top near the $33.70 region during the Asian session on Thursday and erodes a part of the previous day’s strong move up. The white metal currently trades around the $33.35-$33.30 area, down 0.75% for the day, though the technical setup supports prospects for the emergence of dip-buyers at lower levels.

The overnight breakout through a short-term trading range held over the past week or so, along with the fact that oscillators on the daily chart have just started gaining positive traction, validates the near-term positive outlook for the XAG/USD. Hence, any further decline is more likely to get bought into the $33.00 round figure mark, which should now act as a key pivotal point.

A convincing break below the said handle might prompt some technical selling and drag the XAG/USD further toward the $32.40 support en route to the $32.10-$32.00 area. Some follow-through selling will suggest that the recent recovery from the $28.00 mark, or the year-to-date low touched earlier this month, has run out of steam and pave the way for deeper losses.

On the flip side, momentum beyond the Asian session high, around the $33.70 region, should allow the XAG/USD to reclaim the $34.00 mark. The subsequent move higher could lift the commodity towards the $34.30 intermediate hurdle en route to the $34.55-$34.60 area or the highest level since October 2024 touched last month and the $35.00 psychological mark.

Silver 4-hour chart

Silver FAQs

Silver is a precious metal highly traded among investors. It has been historically used as a store of value and a medium of exchange. Although less popular than Gold, traders may turn to Silver to diversify their investment portfolio, for its intrinsic value or as a potential hedge during high-inflation periods. Investors can buy physical Silver, in coins or in bars, or trade it through vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds, which track its price on international markets.

Silver prices can move due to a wide range of factors. Geopolitical instability or fears of a deep recession can make Silver price escalate due to its safe-haven status, although to a lesser extent than Gold’s. As a yieldless asset, Silver tends to rise with lower interest rates. Its moves also depend on how the US Dollar (USD) behaves as the asset is priced in dollars (XAG/USD). A strong Dollar tends to keep the price of Silver at bay, whereas a weaker Dollar is likely to propel prices up. Other factors such as investment demand, mining supply – Silver is much more abundant than Gold – and recycling rates can also affect prices.

Silver is widely used in industry, particularly in sectors such as electronics or solar energy, as it has one of the highest electric conductivity of all metals – more than Copper and Gold. A surge in demand can increase prices, while a decline tends to lower them. Dynamics in the US, Chinese and Indian economies can also contribute to price swings: for the US and particularly China, their big industrial sectors use Silver in various processes; in India, consumers’ demand for the precious metal for jewellery also plays a key role in setting prices.

Silver prices tend to follow Gold’s moves. When Gold prices rise, Silver typically follows suit, as their status as safe-haven assets is similar. The Gold/Silver ratio, which shows the number of ounces of Silver needed to equal the value of one ounce of Gold, may help to determine the relative valuation between both metals. Some investors may consider a high ratio as an indicator that Silver is undervalued, or Gold is overvalued. On the contrary, a low ratio might suggest that Gold is undervalued relative to Silver.

National agencies highlight topics such as allergens and supplements

By |2025-04-24T07:48:09+02:00April 24, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Countries have revealed their national focus areas, ranging from allergens to supplements and additives, as part of a Europe-wide food safety initiative.

For the Safe2EatEU campaign, organized by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Spain highlighted allergens, Croatia looked at supplements, and Italy drew attention to foodborne illness from products of non-animal origin.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) held an event in April on food allergens that brought together authorities, industry and affected people. The conference sought to inform attendees about food safety issues with a focus on allergens. According to EFSA, 4.5 million people in the EU suffer from some type of food allergy.

Key topics included voluntary messages about the unintended presence of allergens and precautionary allergen labeling in Europe, which some participants said was not harmonized, so it is overused and loses its effectiveness.

“It is something that concerns us not only at the public health level but also because of how it impacts the quality of life of those affected. Accurate information for citizens is key to enabling them to make better food choices and enjoy a diet that is both healthy and safe,” said Ana López-Santacruz Serraller, executive director of AESAN.

Supplements on the radar in Croatia
The Safe2Eat Campaign has been extended to 23 countries, up from 18 in 2024. The campaign — formerly known as #EUChooseSafeFood — is now in its fifth year.

According to an Ipsos survey evaluating the 2024 edition, people who recognized the campaign were more likely to consider safety when purchasing food. Also, the opinion that food safety information is too technical or complex decreased, with respondents reporting they know more about preventing food risks.

The Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food (HAPIH) highlighted issues with food supplements.

HAPIH event attendees

According to a survey by HAPIH, almost a third of Croatians use dietary supplements, including 18 percent of adults and 41 percent of children. Supplements are taken almost equally by women at 30 percent and men at 27 percent. The most commonly used types are vitamins and multivitamins. HAPIH said with the increase in consumption of supplements, the number of consumer questions about their safety and effectiveness is also going up.

“Due to the increasing supply and often unverified information in the public space, consumers are not sure which dietary supplements to take, where to buy them safely and whether they even need these products. That is why we have included this topic in the campaign from the safety aspect, in order to provide them with clear, science-based information,” said Krunoslav Karalić, HAPIH acting director.

Experts spoke about recommended daily doses, buying from trusted sources, reporting side effects to the Nutrivigilance system, and the importance of reading labels.

Country comments
The initiative includes Albania, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Austria, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovakia and Turkey.

Communication in Italy by the Ministry of Health (Ministero della Salute) will focus on two topics: foodborne infections attributable to foods of non-animal origin and additives.

Vladimir Đaković, director of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration in Montenegro, said: “Montenegro is a country that strives for high European standards in the field of food safety and is committed to strengthening the system that protects people’s health and enables informed choices. As a small country with a strong orientation towards international trade and a tourist offer based on the quality of domestic products, we are aware of how important consumer trust is — both domestic and foreign.”

Antonios Zampelas, president of the management board of the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) in Greece, said: “The comments, questions and ideas we obtained from the 2024 campaign are a guide for this year, we are always guided by consumers’ concerns about the food they consume and the choices they are asked to make.”

Maria Panayiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment in Cyprus, said: “The informed consumer is our most powerful ally for public health. That is why at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment we prioritize the education and awareness of consumers on food safety issues – because prevention starts with knowledge. Information is prevention and prevention is a shield for the protection of human health.”

Consumers can visit the official campaign website, explore educational materials, and engage with campaign content on social media using #Safe2EatEU.
