Bearish outlook remains intact below 190.50: Analytics and Market news from 6 February 2025 05:19

By |2025-02-06T18:58:50+02:00February 6, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • GBP/JPY attracts some sellers to around 190.25 in Thursday’s early European session, down 0.35% on the day.
  • The cross keeps the negative outlook below the 100-period EMA with a bearish RSI indicator.
  • The initial support emerges at 190.00; first upside barrier is located at 192.40.

The GBP/JPY cross trades in a negative territory around 190.25 during the early European trading hours on Thursday. The growing speculation that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) would keep raising interest rates provides some support to the Japanese Yen (JPY) and creates a headwind for the cross.

Technically, the bearish outlook of GBP/JPY remains in play as the major pair remains capped below the key 100-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) on the 4-hour chart. Furthermore, the downward momentum is supported by the Relative Strength Index (RSI), which is located below the midline around 37.00, suggesting that the path of least resistance is to the downside.

The first downside target for the cross emerges at the 190.00 psychological mark. Extended losses could see a drop to the lower limit of the Bollinger Band at 189.70. A decisive break below the mentioned level could pave the way to 189.34, the low of January 17.

On the bright side, the 100-period EMA at 192.40 acts as an immediate resistance level for the cross. Sustained trading above this level could attract some buyers to 193.54, the upper boundary of the Bollinger Band. Further north, the next hurdle is seen at 194.71, the high of January 27.

Japanese Yen FAQs

The Japanese Yen (JPY) is one of the world’s most traded currencies. Its value is broadly determined by the performance of the Japanese economy, but more specifically by the Bank of Japan’s policy, the differential between Japanese and US bond yields, or risk sentiment among traders, among other factors.

One of the Bank of Japan’s mandates is currency control, so its moves are key for the Yen. The BoJ has directly intervened in currency markets sometimes, generally to lower the value of the Yen, although it refrains from doing it often due to political concerns of its main trading partners. The BoJ ultra-loose monetary policy between 2013 and 2024 caused the Yen to depreciate against its main currency peers due to an increasing policy divergence between the Bank of Japan and other main central banks. More recently, the gradually unwinding of this ultra-loose policy has given some support to the Yen.

Over the last decade, the BoJ’s stance of sticking to ultra-loose monetary policy has led to a widening policy divergence with other central banks, particularly with the US Federal Reserve. This supported a widening of the differential between the 10-year US and Japanese bonds, which favored the US Dollar against the Japanese Yen. The BoJ decision in 2024 to gradually abandon the ultra-loose policy, coupled with interest-rate cuts in other major central banks, is narrowing this differential.

The Japanese Yen is often seen as a safe-haven investment. This means that in times of market stress, investors are more likely to put their money in the Japanese currency due to its supposed reliability and stability. Turbulent times are likely to strengthen the Yen’s value against other currencies seen as more risky to invest in.

How to spot pseudoscientific health and nutrition claims

By |2025-02-06T18:55:10+02:00February 6, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

The Covid-19 pandemic illuminated a vast landscape of misinformation about many topics, science and health chief among them.

Since then, information overload continues unabated, and many people are rightfully confused by an onslaught of conflicting health information. Even expert advice is often contradictory.

On top of that, people sometimes deliberately distort research findings to promote a certain agenda. For example, trisodium phosphate is a common food additive in cakes and cookies that is used to improve texture and prevent spoilage, but wellness influencers exploit the fact that a similarly named substance is used in paint and cleaning products to suggest it’s dangerous to your health.

Such claims can proliferate quickly, creating widespread misconceptions and undermining trust in legitimate scientific research and medical advice. Social media’s rise as a news and information source further fuels the spread of pseudoscientific views.

Misinformation is rampant in the realm of health and nutrition. Findings from nutrition research is rarely clear-cut because diet is just one of many behaviors and lifestyle factors affecting health, but the simplicity of using food and supplements as a cure-all is especially seductive.

I am an assistant professor specialising in medical education and science communication. I also train scientists and future health care professionals how to communicate their science to the general public.

In my view, countering the voices of social media influencers and health activists promoting pseudoscientific health claims requires leaning into the science of disease prevention. Extensive research has produced a body of evidence-based practices and public health measures that have consistently been shown to improve the health of millions of people around the world. Evaluating popular health claims against the yardstick of this work can help distinguish which ones are based on sound science.

Terrain of tangled information

Conflicting information can be found on just about everything we eat and drink.

That’s because a food or beverage is rarely just good or bad. Instead, its health effects can depend on everything from the quantity a person consumes to their genetic makeup. Hundreds of scientific studies describe coffee’s health benefits and, on the flip side, its health risks. A bird’s-eye view can point in one direction or another, but news articles and social media posts often make claims based on a single study.

Things can get even more confusing with dietary supplements because people who promote them often make big claims about their health benefits. Take apple cider vinegar, for example – or ACV, if you’re in the know.

Apple cider vinegar has been touted as an all-natural remedy for a variety of ailments, including digestive issues, urinary health and weight management. Indeed, some studies have shown that it might help lower cholesterol, in addition to having other health benefits, but overall those studies have small sample sizes and are inconclusive.

Advocates of this substance often claim that one particular component of it – the cloudy sediment at the bottom of the bottle termed “the mother” – is especially beneficial because of the bacteria and yeast it contains. But there is no research that backs the claim that it offers any health benefits.

One good rule of thumb is that health hacks that promise quick fixes are almost always too good to be true. And even when supplements do offer some health benefits under specific circumstances, it’s important to remember that they are largely exempt from Food and Drug Administration regulations. That means the ingredients on their labels might contain more or less of the ingredients promised or other ingredients not listed, which can potentially cause harms such as liver toxicity.

It’s also important to keep in mind that the global dietary supplements industry is worth more than US$150 billion per year, so companies – and wellness influencers – selling supplements have a financial stake in convincing the public of their value.

Nutrition science

There’s no doubt that good nutrition is fundamental for your health. Studies consistently show that a balanced diet containing a variety of essential nutrients can help prevent chronic diseases and promote overall well-being.

For instance, minerals such as calcium and iron support bone health and oxygen circulation in the blood, respectively. Proteins are essential for muscle repair and growth, and healthy fats, like those found in avocados and nuts, are vital for brain health.

However, pseudoscientific claims often twist such basic facts to promote the idea that specific diets or supplements can prevent or treat illness. For example, vitamin C is known to play a role in supporting the immune system and can help reduce the duration and severity of colds.

But despite assertions to the contrary, consuming large quantities of vitamin C does not prevent colds. In fact, the body needs only a certain amount of vitamin C to function properly, and any excess is simply excreted.

Companies sometimes claim their supplement is “scientifically proven” to cure illness or boost brain function, with no credible research to back it up.

Some companies overstate the benefits while underplaying the hazards.

For example, wellness influencers have promoted raw milk over pasteurised milk as a more natural and nutritious choice, but consuming it is risky. Unpasteurized milk can contain harmful bacteria that leads to gastrointestinal illness and, in some cases, much more serious and potentially life-threatening diseases such as avian influenza, or bird flu.

Such dietary myths aren’t harmless. Reliance on nutrition alone can lead to neglecting other critical aspects of health, such as regular medical checkups and lifesaving vaccinations.

The lure of dietary myths has led people with cancer to replace proven science-backed treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation, with unproven and misleading nutrition programs.

Spotting less-than-solid science

Pseudoscience exploits your insecurities and emotions, taking advantage of your desire to live the healthiest life possible.

While the world around you may be uncertain and out of your control, you want to believe that at the very least, you have control over your own health. This is where the wellness industry steps in.

What makes pseudoscientific claims so confusing is that they use just enough scientific jargon to sound believable. Supplements or powders that claim to “boost immunity” often list ingredients such as adaptogens and superfoods. While these words sound real and convincing, they actually don’t mean anything in science. They are terms created by the wellness industry to sell products.

I’ve researched and written about reliable ways to distinguish science facts from false health claims. To stay alert and find credible information, I’d suggest you follow a few key steps.

First, check your emotions – strong emotional reactions, such as fear and anger, can be a red flag.

Next, check that the author has experience or expertise in the field of the topic. If they’re not an expert, they might not know what they are talking about. It’s always a good idea to make sure the source is reputable – ask yourself, would this source be trusted by scientists?

Finally, search for references that back up the information. If very little or nothing else exists in the science world to back up the claims, you may want to put your trust in a different source.

Following these steps will separate the facts from fake news and empower you to make evidence-based decisions.

Here’s why Solana price may crash 40% soon

By |2025-02-06T18:53:56+02:00February 6, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Solana price has pulled back after soaring to $295 in January as its ecosystem and the broader crypto industry lost momentum.

Solana (SOL) dropped to the psychological level of $200, marking a 35% decline from its highest point this year.

This retreat is largely due to Bitcoin (BTC) and other altcoins pulling back. Bitcoin has fallen from this year’s high of $109,200 to below $99,000, weighing on tokens in the Solana ecosystem.

According to CoinGecko, the total market cap of all Solana meme coins has declined from over $25 billion in January to $12 billion. Most of these tokens, including Bonk, Dogwifhat, Pudgy Penguins, and Fartcoin, have dropped by more than 30% in the last 30 days.

Further data shows that Solana’s decentralized exchange trading volume has fallen in recent days as investors exit meme coins. Trading volume has dropped by 25% in the past seven days to $41.6 billion. Raydium, Meteora, and Lifinity saw their weekly volume decline by over 30% in the same period.

Solana’s non-fungible token sales have also dropped in the last 30 days. According to CryptoSlam, these sales fell by 36% in the last 30 days to $75 million.

More data also shows hat the number of active wallets in the network has dropped to 3.8 million, down from 6.5 million in January.

SOL price chart | Source: crypto.news

The daily chart shows that the SOL price peaked at $295.05 in January and has moved into a technical bear market, falling by about 35%. Solana has also moved below the 50-day and 25-day Exponential Moving Averages.

It has moved below the 25-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Averages, a sign that bears are gaining control. SOL also moved below the 23.6% Fibonacci Retracement level. Notably, the coin has formed a double-top pattern at $265, and whose neckline is at $170.

A double-top is a widely recognized bearish reversal pattern in technical analysis. A drop below the neckline and the lower boundary of the ascending channel would confirm further downside, potentially pushing the price to the 61.8% retracement level at $120, representing a 40% decline from current levels.

GBP/USD Forecast Today 06/02: Tests Key Resistance (Chart)

By |2025-02-06T16:57:50+02:00February 6, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • During the trading session on Wednesday, we have seen the British pound rallied quite significantly against the US dollar, but it is an area of major resistance.
  • At this point, it could be a very dangerous pair to trade, mainly due to the fact that during the next session, we will see the Bank of England come out with an interest rate decision.
  • With that being the case, we have to be cognizant of the fact that although they are expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, the question then becomes whether or not they sound like there are more interest rates coming, and at what type of velocity?

This is the type of trade that I absolutely hate being involved in, and therefore I won’t be. However, once we see the true reaction to how the Bank of England statement comes out, meaning that once there’s been a few hours gone by, then you can start to talk about how the market might react for a bigger move. At this point, it’s clear that the market has been in a downtrend for a while, so there’s no reason to think that suddenly we are at the end of the downtrend for longer-term move.

Friday Could Determine Everything

At this point in time, the Thursday session is going to be crucial for the British pound part of the equation, but we also have the Nonfarm Payroll announcement on Friday that will give us an idea as to what the Federal Reserve might be looking at. It is because of this that I would expect the British pound to be very volatile over the next 2 days, at least against the US dollar. However, if we do see the British pound really start to take off here, the trade in the short term might be something along the lines of GBP/CHF, avoiding the US dollar altogether. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out, but right now I think we are at a crucial inflection point.

The trade is simple. Let’s see how the Friday session closes, and that could tell us what happens for the next 300 pips, maybe more than that. Jumping into this trade right now is a very dangerous thing to do as liquidity will disappear, and you are trying to guess what the attitude of traders around the world will be due to the interest rate decision and more importantly, the press conference/statement coming out of London, and then how they will react to the jobs number. It’s not a market to be gambling in right now.

Researchers examine dietary supplements impact on exercise-induced gut damage

By |2025-02-06T16:54:28+02:00February 6, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

“The study highlights the complex relationship between dietary supplements and exercise-induced gut damage/symptoms,” said Robyn Aitkenhead, lead author on the study. “While probiotics showed promise in reducing gastrointestinal symptoms, the effects of most supplements were not clinically significant.”

Led by researchers at Swansea University’s Applied Sports Science Technology and Medicine (A-STEM) Research Centre in the UK, the study analyzed data from 26 studies that examined gastrointestinal symptoms, circulating intestinal fatty acid binding protein (i-FABP), a marker of gut damage, and exercise performance.

Exercise-induced GI complaints

According to a 2014 study published in Sports Medicine, between 30% and 50% of athletes have experienced exercise-induced GI complaints. Endurance exercises, especially in hot conditions, can temporarily compromise the integrity of the intestinal barrier in healthy individuals.

This can lead to increased intestinal permeability, allowing bacteria and toxins to enter the bloodstream and potentially cause inflammation and GI symptoms. Therefore, there is growing interest in developing effective dietary strategies to address exercise-induced GI symptoms and potential gut damage.

The current meta-analysis examined studies on supplements commonly used to alleviate GI issues, including probiotics, glutamine and cysteine, bovine colostrum, carbohydrates, curcumin, flavonoids, sodium nitrate, collagen peptides, capsaicin and sodium bicarbonate.

Considering the data

The researchers reported that circulating i-FABP levels consistently increased between pre- and post-exercise events across the studies reviewed.

The meta-analysis, however, showed that there was no significant decrease in i-FABP levels pre- and post-exercise event following nutritional supplementation, indicating that “the effects of most supplements were not clinically significant,” Aitkenhead explained.

Specifically regarding probiotics, findings indicated that there was a moderately significant effect in reducing GI symptoms during endurance exercise. However, the researchers cautioned that this finding merely demonstrated that while probiotics showed promise in reducing gastrointestinal symptoms, they did not lead to clinically relevant changes in biomarkers of gut damage, such as circulating intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (i-FABP) levels.

“While probiotics appear to have the best evidence at the moment, their real-world impact is likely limited at present,” said Dr. Shane Heffernan, senior author on the study and senior lecturer in nutrition and molecular physiology at A-STEM.

When analyzing the efficacy of glutamine and cysteine on exercise-induced GI issues, the researchers found that across several different dosages, administration times and exercise conditions, neither significantly alleviated GI symptoms nor decreased gut damage indicators following endurance exercise.

The hypothetical theorization of bovine colostrum use to alleviate exercise-induced GI symptoms holds that the it can improve gut wall integrity to help prevent bacterial toxins from entering the bloodstream. The meta-analysis determined that while several studies demonstrated an observed blunting effect on i-FABP following bovine colostrum administration, the exercise conditions in those studies suggest that the perceived benefits may not extend to exercise-induced GI symptoms exacerbated by excessive heat.

The meta-analysis also reported mixed results for carbohydrate supplementation and included an extensive discussion regarding the potential efficacy of different delivery formats, particularly hydro-gel solutions. Still, the researchers said that further research is needed to understand the impact of carbohydrate-rich hydrogel ingestion on exercise-induced GI symptoms, gut damage biomarkers and exercise performance.

While flavonoids may positively impact exercise-induced GI symptoms due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, no difference in pre- or post-exercise i-FABP levels and or any improvement in gut damage biomarkers were observed.

Of all the supplements included in the meta-analysis, only capsaicin was explicitly found to induce negative GI symptoms and was recommended to be avoided during exercise.

The researchers also considered single studies for curcumin, sodium nitrate, collagen peptides and sodium bicarbonate. Curcumin demonstrated the most significant effect on pre- and post-exercise i-FABP levels, and collagen peptides also showed promise for reducing exercise-induced GI symptoms related to inflammation. The study concluded that all four of these supplements require further study for the endpoints considers.

Looking ahead

In conclusion, Aitkenhead said that the meta-analysis “underscores the need for more targeted research in sport and exercise nutrition.”

Dr. Heffernan agreed, noting that while the research was compelling, particularly surrounding probiotics, “more work is needed to find alternatives than those currently on the market“ and shared that his team is exploring new potential solutions including an algae-derived prebiotic.

Given the study’s findings, Aitkenhead recommended that nutrition and dietary supplement manufacturers “prioritize formulations that support proper hydration and appropriate carbohydrate feeding strategies/nutritional combinations during exercise (poor use of carbohydrates can result in worse GI symptoms), as these factors play a crucial role in mitigating gut damage.”

She also highlighted the importance of supplement form and delivery methods, noting that gel or liquid forms may be more effective than whole-food forms in minimizing blood markers of gut stress and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Finally, she advised manufacturers to “investigate new potential prebiotic bioactive compounds” because “the data at present suggests a need for more effective alternatives.”

Dogecoin Price Forecast: Can Elon Musk Save DOGE With ETF Approval?

By |2025-02-06T16:53:19+02:00February 6, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Dogecoin price recently suffered a 20% drop before rebounding as the broader crypto market stabilized. Analysts now suggest that DOGE could surge by 89%, fueled by technical indicators and investor optimism.

Meanwhile, speculation around a DOGE ETF is intensifying after Bitwise CIO Matthew Hougan hinted at the possibility of a Dogecoin ETF, citing its longevity and strong community.

As institutional interest in crypto ETFs grows, Dogecoin may see benefits from potential regulatory approval. Meanwhile, DTX Exchange (DTX), a high-potential hybrid TradFi and DeFi platform, has already raised over $13 million in its presale, presenting investors with a promising alternative.

DOGE ETF Speculation: A Potential Catalyst for Dogecoin Price?

Matthew Hougan’s latest remarks suggest that a DOGE ETF is not off the table. He acknowledged Dogecoin’s 12-year history, fair launch, and active community as key factors that could make it eligible for ETF consideration. However, he also stated that DOGE lacks fundamental value beyond its memetic appeal.

A DOGE ETF would provide a regulated, institutional gateway for investors to gain exposure to Dogecoin price action without relying on centralized exchanges. With Bitcoin ETFs already attracting over $50 billion in inflows, a similar trend could emerge for DOGE if it secures approval. But institutional adoption remains uncertain, as Hougan cautioned that meme coins with low liquidity and significant insider ownership are unlikely to receive approval.

While speculation around a DOGE ETF is growing, Dogecoin price remains highly volatile. Technical indicators now suggest that DOGE could be primed for a major rally, with price targets set at $0.53, $0.706, and potentially $1.

Dogecoin Price Prediction: Can DOGE Rally 89%?

Following its recent 20% drop, Dogecoin has shown signs of recovery, with analysts pointing to a potential 89% surge if key resistance levels are broken.

Source: Tradingview

The DOGE price chart indicates a strong support level around $0.262, while mid-range resistance sits near $0.356. A move past $0.483 would confirm bullish momentum, potentially leading DOGE toward $0.706, its 1.618 Fibonacci extension target. If momentum remains strong, DOGE could test the psychological $1 level, a milestone that many investors have been anticipating.

Technical indicators further support a potential breakout. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 41, signaling a recovery from oversold conditions. The MACD shows a weak bullish crossover, hinting at an early-stage trend reversal. Historical fractals suggest that Dogecoin price tends to drop below its range before rebounding, aligning with previous breakout patterns.

DTX: A $0.16 Altcoin Poised for Growth as DOGE Speculation Grows

While Dogecoin price remains tied to speculation about a DOGE ETF, DTX Exchange is making waves as a next-gen trading platform, bridging traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). Unlike meme coins, which rely on hype and viral momentum, DTX is built on fundamentals, offering a high-speed, secure, and multi-asset trading ecosystem.

DTX operates on the VulcanX blockchain, which demonstrated a capacity of 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) during its testnet, a significant improvement over legacy blockchains. With a fixed token supply of 100 million, scarcity could drive long-term value appreciation, similar to how Ethereum’s supply constraints contributed to its rise.

Security remains a priority, with SolidProof auditing ensuring protection against counterparty risks, a growing concern in crypto markets. By combining forex, stocks, crypto, and ETFs into a single trading platform, DTX Exchange is positioning itself as a pioneer in the hybrid finance sector.

If DTX Exchange’s adoption accelerates, its price trajectory could mirror early-stage Ethereum and Binance coins, which surged as their ecosystems expanded. Currently in its final presale round, with over $13M raised at $0.16, analysts believe DTX has the potential to outperform meme coins over the long term.

What’s Next for Dogecoin and DTX?

The fate of Dogecoin largely depends on whether a DOGE ETF materializes and whether institutions show interest in regulated meme coin investments. Market sentiment will also play a critical role, with Elon Musk’s potential involvement acting as a wildcard that could drive additional momentum. However, for investors seeking more stability and long-term value, DTX Exchange presents a high-utility alternative that isn’t reliant on speculation or hype.

XAG/USD marks three-month highs near $32.50 amid risk-off mood

By |2025-02-06T15:57:43+02:00February 6, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • Silver prices surged to a three-month high of $32.38 on Wednesday.
  • Safe-haven metals gain ground amid risk-off mood following global trade and economic uncertainties.
  • Dollar-denominated Silver gains traction as the USD experiences a technical pullback.

Silver price (XAG/USD) rises for the third successive session, trading around $32.30 per troy ounce, during the European hours on Wednesday. The safe-haven metals like Silver gain ground due to increased risk aversion following global trade and economic uncertainties.

In response to the new 10% US tariff that took effect on Tuesday, China imposed a 15% tariff on US coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, along with an additional 10% tariff on crude oil, farm equipment, and certain automobiles.

However, traders remain hopeful for a potential resolution between the United States (US) and China, similar to the agreements reached with Mexico and Canada. US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he expects to speak with China soon but warned, “If we can’t reach a deal with China, the tariffs will be very, very substantial.” However, no further developments have been reported.

Trump, earlier this week, announced a temporary suspension of tariffs on Mexico and Canada after their leaders agreed to deploy 10,000 troops to the US border to combat drug trafficking. The tariffs initially imposed two days earlier—25% on Mexican and Canadian goods have been postponed for at least 30 days.

The dollar-denominated Silver attracts buyers as the US Dollar (USD) goes through a technical downward correction. The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the US Dollar’s value against six major currencies, remains under downward pressure for the third successive day, trading around 107.70 at the time of writing. Meanwhile, traders brace for Friday’s US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data, which is expected to shape the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) monetary policy direction.

Silver, which does not yield interest, is benefiting from the dovish stance of major central banks. The Bank of Canada (BoC) has halted its quantitative tightening and joined Sweden’s Riksbank in cutting interest rates. Last week, the European Central Bank (ECB) lowered its Deposit Facility Rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 2.75%, while both the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) have signaled potential rate cuts ahead. Additionally, markets expect the US Federal Reserve (Fed) to implement two rate cuts this year.

Silver FAQs

Silver is a precious metal highly traded among investors. It has been historically used as a store of value and a medium of exchange. Although less popular than Gold, traders may turn to Silver to diversify their investment portfolio, for its intrinsic value or as a potential hedge during high-inflation periods. Investors can buy physical Silver, in coins or in bars, or trade it through vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds, which track its price on international markets.

Silver prices can move due to a wide range of factors. Geopolitical instability or fears of a deep recession can make Silver price escalate due to its safe-haven status, although to a lesser extent than Gold’s. As a yieldless asset, Silver tends to rise with lower interest rates. Its moves also depend on how the US Dollar (USD) behaves as the asset is priced in dollars (XAG/USD). A strong Dollar tends to keep the price of Silver at bay, whereas a weaker Dollar is likely to propel prices up. Other factors such as investment demand, mining supply – Silver is much more abundant than Gold – and recycling rates can also affect prices.

Silver is widely used in industry, particularly in sectors such as electronics or solar energy, as it has one of the highest electric conductivity of all metals – more than Copper and Gold. A surge in demand can increase prices, while a decline tends to lower them. Dynamics in the US, Chinese and Indian economies can also contribute to price swings: for the US and particularly China, their big industrial sectors use Silver in various processes; in India, consumers’ demand for the precious metal for jewellery also plays a key role in setting prices.

Silver prices tend to follow Gold’s moves. When Gold prices rise, Silver typically follows suit, as their status as safe-haven assets is similar. The Gold/Silver ratio, which shows the number of ounces of Silver needed to equal the value of one ounce of Gold, may help to determine the relative valuation between both metals. Some investors may consider a high ratio as an indicator that Silver is undervalued, or Gold is overvalued. On the contrary, a low ratio might suggest that Gold is undervalued relative to Silver.

Plunges to Key Support (Video)

By |2025-02-06T14:56:38+02:00February 6, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • The US dollar has plunged against the Japanese yen during the trading session on Wednesday, as we see a continuation of the overall pullback.
  • That being said, part of this is the bank of Japan governor suggesting that they are now dealing with inflation and therefore it’s possible that they will start to raise rates in a longer term strategy.
  • While that might be true, the reality is that the interest rate difference between the two are still miles apart.

So, I’m not really wanting to short the dollar against the yen. I’m more or less waiting to see how it behaves in this general vicinity. What’s of particular interest to me is that we are right at the 200 day EMA and we did stop. So, it’ll be interesting to see if it holds.

Non-Farm Payroll

Furthermore, you have to keep in mind that Friday is non-farm payroll Friday, so you have to be a little cautious there as well. Now, having said that, we have to start to ask the question, is the trend changing? We don’t know yet. We are getting there though. We are certainly getting to that point. So, I think this is a pair that is going to be more or less short-term driven and determined, but we will have to watch the 10-year yield in JGBs in Japan and the 10 year yield in America to give us a bit of an idea as to how this may play out.

Interest rate differential is particularly interesting in Japanese yen related pairs as it is part of the carry trade. So, I always keep an eye on that. Nonetheless, the 200 day EMA could offer a bit of technical support. And then of course, Friday is a massive wild card with the employment numbers giving us an idea as to where we may go in the longer term. During the day, there was someone from the Federal Reserve talking about the possibility of an interest rate cut between now and the end of the year, which is still very possible. But these are the same people that at one point were screaming about transitory inflation. They’re almost always wrong. So, at this point in time, it’s a wait and see. But I do think this is a very important level to watch.

A number of brands have surfaced to accommodate the demand for at-home ice baths, making it easier than ever to take daily dips in your own backyard. This is great news for those who don’t live by an ocean or lake to experience “polar plunges,” or don’t want to spend the money on a wellness studio membership in order to have access to an ice bath.

The benefits of ice baths

Though the physical and mental health benefits that people experience from cold-water immersion are entirely unique to each individual and not exactly a foolproof cure-all for everyone, research indicates deliberate cold exposure can benefit the human body and mind.

Michael Bourgoyne, DPT, CNS, a physical therapist at Rocky Mountain Care in Salt Lake City, Utah, says that a cold plunge is essentially cryotherapy (cold therapy), which is known to induce a parasympathetic response in the body by stimulating the vagus nerve. That icy jolt to the system can slow your heart rate, lower your blood pressure and cortisol levels, and ultimately, reduce inflammation and stress in the body.

According to Bourgoyne, after lowering your core body temperature down in an ice bath, your blood vessels work to re-dilate as your body warms back up and readjusts its temperature back to normal levels, thus increasing circulation throughout the body. After a teeth-chattering plunge, you may also notice an invigorating sensation similar to that of a “runner’s high”—some studies suggest that a rush of chemicals like dopamine can be triggered by a chilly soak.

As noted, the benefits can differ from person to person. For example, Adam Klink, director of community and functional fitness coach at R.A.D, invested in an at-home ice bath to counteract his busy days and intense training. He notes the physical benefits, like soothing inflammation and aching muscles, but particularly enjoys the mental benefits of cold plunging, which he describes as a driving force to get him to do something outside of his comfort zone every day.

“Nothing makes me more uncomfortable than sitting in freezing water and I wanted to build some extra mental fortitude, amongst other things,” he says. “My mental capacity has improved noticeably. Hopping in the cold water first thing in the morning makes anything that comes my way the rest of the day that much easier. Once I hop out, I feel an endorphin rush and am quickly awake and alert to start the day.”

When Well+Good commerce editor, Francesca Krempa, took an ice bath every day for two weeks, she noted the opposite. She mentioned that icing made a big difference on her body—especially her joints.

“Ice bathing can be relaxing, when you train up to 30-degree water, of course,” she wrote in her review. “And I did feel better, at least physically. While I didn’t notice a difference in my anxiety or depression levels, my muscles felt great. My knees particularly felt looser and less angry than they had all winter, particularly on the days when I lasted three minutes or more.”

If you are ready to give it a whirl, these are the best at-home ice baths worth taking the plunge in.

At-home ice bath Q&A

Before you get started, Bourgoyne says it’s a good idea to consult a medical doctor to determine it’s safe before taking your first dip, especially if you have family or personal history with heart, vascular, or nerve conditions, if you are pregnant, or have other conditions that are a concern with cold or water.

How cold should the water be to see the benefits?

There’s really no definitive answer, as some people tolerate cold better than others. As to not completely shock your body, experts recommend starting out with warmer temperatures in the 45-55°F range before working down to colder temps (35-39°F).

“Gradual cold exposure and listening to the body—never forcing—is the way to build cold tolerance until you are ready to try an ice bath,” Andri Einarrson, a certified Wim Hof instructor and founder of Andri Iceland, previously told Well+Good. “What you can do is put cold water (no ice) in your [tub] and see if you manage to be as relaxed as if it was hot water. If not, keep with cold showers until you manage to go into the [tub] in total relaxation.”

How long should you take an ice bath for?

This will also vary from person to person depending on their experience level, threshold, and the temperature of the water. But the colder the stimulus, the shorter amount of time you need to expose yourself to the cold. If it’s your first time taking an ice bath, it’s often recommended to aim for 1 to 3 minutes. If the plunge was manageable, you can increase your time (or decrease your temp) next time.

How much ice do you need for a cold plunge without a chiller?

The amount of ice depends on the size of the tub and the temperature you are seeking in your ice bath. For a ballpark, you’ll need about 60 to 100 pounds of ice to get your bath to the desired temp (under 50 degrees).

What are some tips to mentally get through a plunge?

Like most things, starting is the hardest part. Upon submersion and shock, your body’s fight-or-flight response will kick in (telling you to get the hell out of there). This is where the true challenge lies: “Mentally getting through a plunge is actually the toughest part for me,” says Klink. “I have had to train my mind to slow down and focus on my breathing. The more you focus on your breathing, taking deep breaths, and focus on staying in the moment, the quicker the time goes. This takes some time to get to a point where you can feel relaxed in the cold water.”

When is the best time to take an ice bath?

It’s easier said than done, but try to stay consistent and commit yourself to a regular schedule. Like most habits, it will take time and repetition to develop. “My biggest piece of advice is to start with a manageable time duration and water temperature,” says Klink. “You can build on this session after session as you build a tolerance.” Even better, setting goals throughout your cold-plunge journey always makes it a personal challenge to reach or beat, adding even more of a pep in your step as your dry off.
