Gold price witnessed good two-way businesses on Monday, falling as low as $2,773 in the first half due to intense safe-haven flows into the US Dollar after traders took account of US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcements.
Trump on Saturday imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico while slapping China with 10% levy, citing that the measures were necessary to combat illegal immigration and the drug trade. The Trump tariff war rattled markets and pushed them to ‘sell everything’, with the Greenback emerging as the only winner.
However, the tide turned against the USD in Monday’s American trading after the US struck a deal with Mexico and Canada to delay tariffs by a month in exchange. for strict border security from both its neighbors and to ban fentanyl exports to the US.
Notwithstanding the sharp rebound in US Treasury bond yields, the renewed US Dollar sell-off helped push Gold price to fresh record highs at $2,831. Gold price, however, moved slightly away from the record highs to settle near $2,815 as Fed policymakers maintain their cautious outlook on inflation and interest rate cuts amid Trump’s policy uncertainty.
Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said that “uncertainty has been increasing; want to be cautious and not have policy lean in a direction and have to switch.” “I’m prepared to wait for a while to cut again,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee noted that “uncertainties warrant caution in rate cuts,” warning of “possible inflation increase.“
Gold price technical analysis: Daily chart
The daily chart warrants caution for Gold optimists as the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) has entered the overbought region to currently trade near 71.
Therefore, further upside could remain elusive, with a pullback likely in the offing before the uptrend resumes.
If a correction sets in, Gold price could challenge the $2,800 round level, below which the previous day’s low of $2,772 will be tested.
Additional declines will put the January 30 low of $2,754 at risk. The last line of defense for buyers is seen at the 21-day SMA at $2,731.
However, the 50-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) and 100-day SMA Bull Cross keep hopes alive for buyers.
On the upside, Gold price needs a sustained move above the all-time high of $2,831 to target the $2,850 psychological level.

A major on-chain analytics firm, Coinglass, revealed that exchanges have witnessed an outflow of $82 million worth of XRP tokens in the past 48 hours. This substantial outflow amid the ongoing price recovery suggests potential accumulation, which could drive buying pressure and further upside momentum.

Traders’ Strong Bet on Long Position
In addition to long-term holders, traders are also found to be over-leveraged on the long side, as revealed by Coinglass data.
At press time, the $0.73 level is the over-leveraged zone, where traders hold $35 million worth of long positions, acting as strong support for ADA. Conversely, $0.83 is another over-leveraged level on the short side, where short sellers hold only $3.32 million worth of short positions, ten times lower than the bulls’ long holdings.

When combining all these on-chain metrics with technical analysis, it appears that bulls are back in the market and are supporting the altcoin for significant upside momentum.
BREAKING: The Pound to Dollar exchange rate (GBP) jumped to 1.2420 from around 1.2330 at the US open. Risk appetite recovered strongly after Monday’s opening following reports that President Trump’s 25% tariffs on Mexico had been delayed by 1 month.
The dollar also pared gains against European currencies amid hopes that bilateral negotiations could lead to further concessions.
The Pound to Euro (GBP/EUR) exchange rate held firm around 1.2030.
The move followed a conference call between Trump and Mexican President Sheinbaum.
Volatility will inevitably remain high with risk vulnerable again if Canada adopts a hardline stance and fails to secure a reprieve.
According to sources, Mexico wanted the tariffs dropped entirely, but Trump would only agree on a 1-month postponement.
Inevitably, the US Administration will look to force more concessions from Mexico.

The immediate relief sparked hopes for a delay to tariffs on Canada and helped trigger a rebound in risk appetite, with equities paring losses.
The Canadian dollar rebounded strongly with USD/CAD at 1.4575 from 21-year highs near 1.4800.
Scotiabank commented, “The weekend advance has left a gap on the intraday chart between 1.4550/00, which markets may have to try and fill before the USD’s broader advance resumes.”
The Euro also rallied, although the threat of tariffs will loom large as a negotiating tactic.
