US Dollar to Yen Forecast: Clash of Economics and Politics, 140 or 160 in 12 months

By |2024-12-31T16:35:34+02:00December 31, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

December 31, 2024 – Written by Frank Davies

The latest monetary policy statements triggered dollar gains and yen losses, with the dollar-to-yen (USD/JPY) exchange rate jumping to five-month highs near 158.

The Pound to Yen (GBP/JPY) exchange rate is trading around 197.

Monetary policies will remain a key element during 2025, although geo-political developments will also have a key impact as the Trump Administration takes office.

HSBC expects a firm dollar tone will dominate; “our view is that it will resume rising when the broad USD breaks out of its consolidation and starts to strengthen again.”

It has an end-2025 USD/JPY forecast of 160. It also expects GBP/JPY to hold at 197 by the end of next year.

Danske Bank expects further Fed interest rate cuts will be the dominant factor with USD/JPY sliding to 140 at the end of 2025.

It forecasts GBP/JPY will post sharp losses to 171 by the end of 2025.

The Bank of Japan made no changes to monetary policy at the December meeting with interest rates held at 0.25%.

MUFG commented; “More importantly, Governor Ueda refrained from sending a strong signal that the BoJ is planning to hike rates at the next policy meeting on 24th January. He only added that there will be a certain amount of information available by the next meeting while emphasizing that the full picture on the wage trend will be clear in March or April.”

According to Bank of America; “Looking ahead, we remain comfortable with our forecast that the BoJ will deliver its next hike, to 0.5% at the January ’25 MPM, followed by two more 25bp hikes to 0.75% in July ’25 and 1% in January ’26.”

It added; “As the US presidential inauguration day comes a few days ahead of the BoJ’s Jan MPM, a hike at the Jan MPM is not a done deal.

MUFG added; “It has provided a green light for speculators to rebuild short yen positions and increases the likelihood that USD/JPY will rise back up toward year to date highs at just above the 160.00-level.”

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points to 4.50%, but there was a significant shift in forecasts with committee members now only projecting two rate cuts for 2025 compared with four in the September set of forecasts.

Fed Chair Powell’s rhetoric was also relatively hawkish with comments that the pace of rate cuts could slow.

ING commented; “Our forecast profile of a higher USD/JPY is largely down to the fact that we expect the US 10yr Treasury to end 2025 at 5.50%.”

In contrast, Danske Bank expects a firm yen tone; “We believe the Fed is likely to cut rates more aggressively than markets currently anticipate in 2025, which could push the pair lower.”

Dollar and wider currency policies will be potentially very important.

ING commented; “There is some talk of a ‘Mar-a-Lago accord’ to weaken the US dollar. We think Trump’s policies are dollar positive, but if Washington’s dollar policy were to make an impact, especially if US growth disappoints, we suspect USD/JPY would lead $ lower.

There will also be pressure for Bank of Japan intervention to support the yen if there is excessive weakness.

At this stage it has an end-2025 forecast of 160.

ING also forecasts GBP/JPY at 198 at the end of 2025.

Vitamin C will not prevent colds but may provide some relief | Health

By |2024-12-31T16:32:59+02:00December 31, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

In 1970, the chemist Linus Pauling published a book titled Vitamin C and the Common Cold, in which he advised taking large daily doses of this nutrient to achieve optimal health, especially against colds. Pauling is one of only five people to have won two Nobel prizes, and the only person to have won both alone. Today the idea of taking vitamin C to ward off colds is accepted as common knowledge, to the extent that even cold remedies from the pharmacy include it. All this, one supposes, should be sufficient guarantee, but does it really work?

Pauling learned of the added benefits of vitamin C — also known as ascorbic acid — in 1966 from the biochemist Irwin Stone, who had experimented with this compound as a food preservative. Vitamin C has been known since 1912 to prevent scurvy, a typical disease suffered by sailors on long voyages. Stone was responding to an earlier idea that mega-doses of vitamins was the secret to health and longevity. Pauling went further and incorporated this hypothesis into what he called orthomolecular medicine, based on dietary supplements in large doses.

It is worth clarifying that neither of these ideas is related to Pauling’s two Nobel Prizes. He won the Chemistry prize in 1954 for his work on molecular bonds; and the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to him in 1962 for his anti-nuclear activism. After these moments of glory, Pauling’s views were met with skepticism: in his book, he recommended taking at least 2.3 grams of vitamin C a day, the equivalent of eating more than 30 oranges.

Since then, megavitamin therapy and orthomolecular medicine have failed to gain traction within the scientific community, due to the lack of solid evidence. With regard to vitamins in general, the current view is that excessive doses are harmful in the case of fat-soluble vitamins, such as A and E, which accumulate in adipose tissue, while excessive doses in the case of water-soluble vitamins, such as C, are irrelevant because the excess is eliminated.

A glut of vitamins is bad

Even when administered in moderate doses, the benefits of multivitamins are “limited,” according to Neal Barnard, professor of medicine at George Washington University. The last major study to date, involving nearly 400,000 people from 2024, has not found that these supplements extend life; on the contrary, they are associated with slightly higher mortality. Remarking on the study, Barnard and his team point out that “there is little health rationale for the use of multivitamin supplements.”

The experts say that these micronutrients should be consumed as part of a healthy diet that provides the recommended amounts — about 0.1 grams per day for vitamin C — and that they should only be supplemented under medical prescription should there be a deficit. An excess of vitamin C can be harmful in people with kidney problems, undergoing cancer treatments or those with certain diseases. High doses may also cause diarrhea.

However, Barnard and his colleagues do not rule out the possibility that supplementing a particular vitamin may provide benefits in specific cases — for example, a multivitamin may help to boost memory in the elderly and folic acid during pregnancy helps the healthy development of the fetus. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is said to have the ability to boost the immune response. Could it be useful in helping fight colds?

Limited usefulness

At the Department of Public Health, University of Helsinki, Finland, biochemist and physician Harri Hemilä analyzes the potential benefits of vitamin C and publishes reviews in the prestigious Cochrane Library, considered the standard of excellence in meta-studies, which synthesize data from a collection of studies. “There is strong evidence that normal people cannot prevent colds with vitamin C,” Hemilä says. “The exception is in people with very intense physical activity, such as marathon runners, for whom vitamin C can prevent half of all colds. Those who take very little in their diet would also benefit, “but such low levels of intake are not common,” he adds.

As for reducing the duration of a cold or its symptoms, studies show that vitamin C reduces the severity by up to 15%, although this refers to regular intake of a supplement of 1 gram per day or more, according to Hemilä. “However, adults tend to have a couple of colds a year, so it doesn’t seem reasonable to take vitamin C regularly,” he notes. But, although there is conflicting evidence regarding its benefits [when we already have a cold], taking a high dose of up to 10 grams a day could help bring some relief.

In short, Pauling overestimated the benefits of vitamin C, but there is something to his claims: it is not a panacea against colds but it is not a simple placebo either. It does not prevent, but it can to some extent relieve the effects of the virus. Hemilä believes more studies are needed and that current medicine harbors a prejudice against vitamin C, based on certain old and flawed studies that were reacting against Pauling’s theories.

Hemilä offers an alternative recommendation for colds: zinc. “The problem is that there are no good zinc pills in pharmacies, many have citric acid or too low a dose of zinc,” he says. Of course, too much zinc also has its risks, so any supplement should be taken on a doctor’s recommendation.

Poised to Hit a Double-Digit Figure Before the End

By |2024-12-31T16:29:39+02:00December 31, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

As the year comes to an end, the possibility of the top tokens closing the trade above the crucial resistance remains vague. Bitcoin fails to restore $98,000 while Ethereum may close the trade below $3,500. Meanwhile, the XRP price continues to trade above $2, displaying magnificent strength that may result in the token manifesting massive moves in the upcoming days in 2025. The current trade setup for XRP suggests the token is poised to mark a double-digit figure in 2025, as the bulls appear to be poised for a 10x rally.

The XRP price is displaying very sluggish behaviour at the moment, with the volume depleting and reaching the lowest possible levels. This may suggest a massive drop in the number of buyers, as the progress seems to be very low. However, the token is about to make a historic yearly close above $2 after marking a seven-year high close to $3. Hence, sealing the levels above $2 that it usually fails to achieve after the 2018 & 2021 bull run suggests there is more room for the token to thrive in 2025.

The XRP price has been trading decremental since the rejection from the 7-year high close to $3 and seems to have reached the edge of the consolidation. Meanwhile, the Bollinger band’s sudden contraction after a massive expansion followed by a parallel consolidation. Previously, whenever the bands displayed such a contraction, it resulted in a significant explosion Secondly, the RSI is trying to validate a bullish reversal but if it turns out to be yet another lower high, a breakout below the ascending support could be imminent. However, the level at $1.96 appears to offer strong support, as it has been doing since the start of the month.

Ripple has been growing strong fundamentally by attracting mass adoption and attention. The recent rise in the trading volume that surpassed $55 billion indicates the bulls are vigilant over the token. Moreover, multiple events are expected to unfold in 2025, like a potential XRP ETF, a closure to the Ripple vs. SEC lawsuit, the wide acceptance of RLUSD and many more that may offer a strong boost to the XRP price rally in the upcoming weeks.

GBP/USD Forecast Today 31/12: Faces Resistance (Video)

By |2024-12-31T14:34:57+02:00December 31, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • The British pound has initially tried to rally during the trading session on Monday, but as you can see, the 1.26 level has offered a significant amount of resistance. And then we turned around and fell hard.
  • The 1.25 level is an area that continues to see a lot of support.
  • It’s a large round, psychologically significant figure, and an area that’s been important times.

The question now is what happens next because we are at a major inflection point. If the market were to break down below the 1.25 level, then you could see a drop to the 1.23 level pretty quickly. The US dollar is by far the strongest currency of the majors around the world and with interest rates in America being so high it makes quite a bit of sense. With this I think you’ve got a situation where you continue to look at rallies as selling opportunities. Now, having said that, the British pound is faring better against the US dollar than many other currencies.

British Pound Decent Overall, but not Here.

So, you can also take this and use this as part of your analysis to perhaps buy the British pound against the Australian dollar, which is doing so much worse. It isn’t necessarily that the British pound is going to go flying. It’s just that it’s doing better than these other currencies. As far as against the US dollar is concerned, the 1.2750 level above will continue to be a significant barrier. It’s not until we break above there that I think the market really has a significant chance to take off to the upside. And it’s probably worth noting that the 1.2750 level is also backed up by the 50-day EMA as well as the 200-day EMA. I remain a fade the rallies trader in this market.

EUR/USD Forecast Today 31/12: Weakens Amid Dominance (Video)

By |2024-12-31T12:32:51+02:00December 31, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • We initially tried to rally a bit and recover, but I think it’s obvious that the only currency that you want to own as far as the majors will be the US dollar.
  • Interest rates continue to favor the US dollar as they are going higher, despite the fact that the Federal Reserve has been cutting.
  • This isn’t normal, and therefore it is something that must be paid close attention to.

Furthermore, you also have to keep in mind that the ECB is going to have to cut rates, and the European Union economy is just poor. EUR/USD is a market that I think continues to consolidate between the 1.03 level and the 1.06 level. Any rally that leads towards the 1.06 level I would look at with suspicion, I would not hesitate to start shorting it at the first signs of exhaustion. It looks like that’s what traders did during the session on Monday.

Liquidity and Volume During this Time of the Year

Now, having said all of that, we do have to worry about liquidity, and that might have made the move in both directions a little overdone as far as the reality of it is concerned. But it is still a market that I do not want to get long in. I want to short this market, and we need to break above the 1.06 level to even have the conversation of going long the euro. I don’t want to play the bounce because there’s no reason for this thing to stay up here from a fundamental standpoint at the moment. You can’t just buy something because it’s fallen too far. That’s a great way to lose money. If we clear 1.03 to the downside, we’re going to parity. And that is what I expect to see sometime in 2025.

Driving Factors

Rising Awareness of Health and Wellness Benefits

Consumers are increasingly drawn to plant-based protein supplements due to their numerous health benefits, including better digestion, reduced risk of heart disease, and lower cholesterol levels. As awareness of these advantages grows, more individuals are making the switch from animal-based proteins to plant-based options.

This shift is further supported by a growing number of health professionals advocating for plant-based diets as part of a healthy lifestyle, influencing consumer preferences and driving market growth.

Expanding Vegan and Vegetarian Populations

The global rise in veganism and vegetarianism is a significant driver for the plant-based protein supplement market. People adopting these lifestyles often seek reliable protein sources to substitute meat and dairy products.

Plant-based proteins, being an ideal alternative, have seen increased demand in these demographic groups. This trend is supported by social media and celebrity endorsements, which continue to promote plant-based diets as a sustainable and ethical choice, further boosting market expansion.

Innovation in Product Taste and Texture

The plant-based protein supplement market is experiencing rapid growth due to continuous improvements in product taste and texture. Manufacturers are investing in research and development to overcome past issues related to the earthy taste and gritty texture of plant-based proteins.

Today’s products offer a variety of flavors and smoother consistencies that appeal to a broader audience. This enhancement in sensory attributes makes plant-based proteins more appealing to both existing and new consumers, significantly driving market adoption.

Restraining Factors

High Cost of Plant-Based Protein Products

The premium pricing of plant-based protein supplements compared to their animal-based counterparts is a major barrier to market growth. These products often involve higher costs due to more expensive sourcing of raw materials and advanced processing technologies.

The price differential can deter budget-conscious consumers from switching to plant-based options, particularly in price-sensitive markets. This economic factor limits the potential consumer base to those who can afford or are willing to invest in higher-priced health products.

Limited Consumer Acceptance and Perception Issues

Despite growing popularity, plant-based protein supplements still face skepticism from certain consumer segments. Common concerns include doubts about the protein quality and the nutritional equivalence to animal-based proteins.

Additionally, some consumers are hesitant to try plant-based proteins due to unfamiliar tastes and textures, which can differ significantly from traditional protein sources. These perception issues slow down the adoption rate among new users who are not accustomed to plant-based diets.

Allergenic Concerns with Plant Ingredients

Plant-based proteins, such as soy and wheat proteins, are common allergens that can restrict their use among consumers with specific dietary restrictions or allergies. This presents a significant restraint in the market, as potential customers must either avoid these products or seek alternatives that may not meet their protein needs or preferences as well.

Addressing allergenic concerns while maintaining product efficacy and appeal remains a challenge for manufacturers, impacting the overall market growth potential.

Growth Opportunity

Expansion into Emerging Markets with Health Trends

Emerging markets present significant growth opportunities for the plant-based protein supplement industry. As health and wellness trends gain traction globally, particularly in developing regions, the demand for healthier dietary options is rising.

Companies can capitalize on this by introducing plant-based proteins to these new markets, where awareness is growing and disposable incomes are increasing. Tailoring products to meet local tastes and dietary preferences can further enhance market penetration and consumer acceptance in these regions.

Development of Hypoallergenic Plant-Based Proteins

Developing hypoallergenic plant-based protein supplements could tap into a niche yet substantial market segment. By creating proteins free from common allergens like soy, nuts, and gluten, manufacturers can cater to consumers who face dietary restrictions due to allergies but still seek plant-based nutritional options.

This approach not only widens the consumer base but also positions a brand as inclusive and sensitive to consumer health needs, enhancing brand loyalty and market share.

Technological Advancements in Product Processing

Investing in new technologies to improve the texture, taste, and nutritional value of plant-based protein supplements is a lucrative growth opportunity. As technology evolves, the ability to produce more palatable and nutritionally enhanced products can attract a broader audience.

This includes using fermentation techniques or extraction methods that preserve protein integrity while improving flavor. Such innovations can differentiate products in a competitive market, appealing to both existing consumers and those new to plant-based proteins.

Latest Trends

Increasing Use of Mixed Plant-Based Protein Blends

A notable trend in the plant-based protein supplements market is the increasing use of mixed protein blends. Manufacturers are combining different plant sources, like pea, rice, and hemp, to create a complete amino acid profile that rivals that of animal proteins.

This approach not only enhances the nutritional value of the supplements but also improves their taste and texture. By leveraging the unique properties of multiple plant proteins, brands can cater to health-conscious consumers seeking the best nutritional outcomes from their supplements.

Rise of Clean Label and Organic Protein Supplements

Consumers are increasingly demanding clean-label products, which include organic plant-based protein supplements. These products are marketed with an emphasis on natural, non-GMO, and minimally processed ingredients, aligning with the broader consumer shift towards health and transparency.

Organic plant-based proteins are particularly appealing because they assure consumers of pesticide-free ingredients and environmentally friendly farming practices, tapping into the growing market segment that prioritizes ecological and health impacts in their purchasing decisions.

Collaboration with Fitness Professionals and Influencers

Collaborations between plant-based protein supplement brands and fitness professionals or influencers are becoming increasingly popular. These partnerships help brands leverage the credibility and reach of these individuals to promote their products.

Fitness experts and influencers often have loyal followers who trust their recommendations, making this strategy an effective way to expand market visibility and credibility. Such collaborations also often involve product endorsements or co-branded products, which can significantly boost sales and consumer interest in plant-based options.

Expert Warns Against December 31 XRP Pump Expectation

By |2024-12-31T12:26:52+02:00December 31, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Analyst Vincent Van Code warns XRP enthusiasts against expecting a major December 31 price pump, advising a break during the holiday season.

As the year draws to a close, the XRP community is rife with speculation about potential price movements. Many XRP enthusiasts are anticipating a major event today that could trigger a significant price “pump” for the digital asset.

However, Vincent Van Code, a software engineer and voice in the community, has cautioned against putting too much faith in these predictions.

Low Probability of a Major Event

In a tweet shared with his followers, Van Code expressed skepticism about the chances of a “big” XRP rally on December 31. According to him, the likelihood of such an event is extremely low—roughly 1 in 1,000.

Moreover, he emphasized that there is little real evidence to suggest that a significant market move is imminent. Accordingly, he urged community members to consider the risks before making investment decisions based on the speculations.

“Is this gamble worth it?” Van Code asked, pointing out the importance of being grounded in reality rather than chasing speculative trends without strong backing.

Indeed, today, the last day of the year, the crypto market is largely bearish, and XRP is among the victims. XRP has dipped by 2% today, struggling to maintain the $2 price. It even briefly touched $1.9 before stabilizing back at $2.

Holiday Season and Limited Market Activity

Furthermore, Van Code reminded the XRP community that it is the holiday season when many industry professionals are taking a break. “Who’s actually working?” he asked.

He suggested that key figures and market movers are likely spending time with their families and enjoying their hard-earned success rather than planning large-scale market manipulation.

Meanwhile, Van Code acknowledged the fun of speculating about riddles and puzzles within the XRP community. He appreciates the mysteries and speculative price forecasts but urges his followers not to bet on them as if they were certain events.

Advice to Unwind and Reflect

In his final point, Van Code recommended using the end of the year to unwind, regroup, and even take the opportunity to learn something new. “Take a break,” he encouraged, “there’s little happening now.”

Want to beat stress and keep your heart healthy? From cocoa to green tea, add these flavanol-rich foods to your diet | Health

By |2024-12-31T10:30:04+02:00December 31, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

The food choices we make during periods of stress can significantly impact how stress affects our cardiovascular health and overall well-being. A study by the University of Birmingham reveals that high-fat foods can impair vascular function and oxygen delivery to the brain during stress.

However, flavanol compounds found in cocoa and green tea may help protect vascular health. New research further highlights that consuming flavanol-rich cocoa alongside a fatty meal can counteract some negative effects and support cardiovascular health under stress. Can cocoa protect your heart during stress

Dr. Catarina Rendeiro, Assistant Professor at the University of Birmingham, explained that stress often leads people to crave high-fat foods, which can impair vascular recovery. Their study explored whether adding high-flavanol foods, like cocoa, could reduce stress-related damage. Rosalind Baynham, the study’s first author, highlighted that flavanols found in berries, tea, and cocoa are known to support cardiovascular health and regulate blood pressure.

The study found that consuming fatty foods with a low-flavanol drink during stress reduced vascular function by 1.29% FMD, lasting up to 90 minutes post-stress. However, a high-flavanol cocoa drink effectively prevented this decline, showing significantly better vascular function at 30 and 90 minutes compared to low-flavanol cocoa.

Benefits of flavanol-rich foods

Earlier research also revealed that high-fat foods reduced cerebral oxygenation in the pre-frontal cortex during stress, though cocoa flavanols did not improve oxygenation or mood. Dr. Catarina Rendeiro emphasised that consuming flavanol-rich foods or drinks can help counteract the vascular impact of unhealthy food choices, enabling better dietary decisions during stressful times.

When shopping, opt for minimally processed cocoa powder or try other flavanol-rich options like green tea, black tea, and berries. Recent guidelines suggest a daily flavanol intake of 400–600 mg, which can be met with two cups of tea or a mix of berries, apples, and high-quality cocoa.

Professor Jet Veldhuijzen van Zanten from the University of Birmingham highlighted that modern life’s stress is well-known for affecting health and productivity. Making small changes, like adding flavanol-rich foods, can help manage stress, especially for those with busy schedules who rely on quick, convenient meals.

Cardano (ADA) Price Prediction for December 31

By |2024-12-31T10:25:12+02:00December 31, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

ADA, the native token of the Cardano blockchain, is poised to continue its price decline in the coming days. This decline is attributed to ongoing market uncertainty, the formation of bearish price action, and negative sentiment across the cryptocurrency landscape.

As of today, December 31, 2024, the majority of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL), are struggling to gain momentum.

Cardano (ADA) Technical Analysis and Upcoming Levels

According to expert technical analysis, ADA appears bearish in the short term. It has formed a descending triangle price action pattern on the daily time frame and is poised for a breakdown. This pattern has emerged following the breakdown of a bearish head-and-shoulders price action pattern.

Source: Trading View

Based on historical price momentum, if ADA breaches the support of the descending triangle and closes a daily candle below the $0.825 mark, there is a strong possibility it could decline by 10% to reach the crucial support at the $0.75 mark in the future. However, ADA’s bearish outlook will only hold if it closes a daily candle below the $0.825 level; otherwise, it may fail.

$38 Million ADA Outflow

Despite this bearish outlook, long-term holders have shown strong interest and confidence in the token, as reported by the on-chain analytics firm Coinglass. Data from ADA spot inflow/outflow reveals that exchanges have witnessed an outflow of a significant $37.92 million worth of ADA.

The outflow is a metric that shows how much of an asset has been withdrawn from exchanges to wallet addresses. This metric also indicates potential upside momentum, buying pressure, and an ideal buying opportunity.

In addition to the long-term holders’ participation, traders appear hesitant to build new positions as the price reaches a crucial area and prepares for a breakdown. This hesitation has led to the liquidation of millions worth of long positions, as revealed by open interest. Data shows that ADA’s open interest has dropped by 3.9% in the past 24 hours.

Current Price Momentum

At press time, ADA is trading near $0.8456 and has experienced a price decline of 3.15% in the past 24 hours. During the same period, its trading volume increased by 15%, indicating heightened participation from traders and investors compared to the previous day.
