GBP/USD Analysis Today – 12/12: Eyes Key Resistance (Chart)

By |2024-12-12T22:14:11+02:00December 12, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • Since the start of this important trading week, the Pound Sterling has managed to gain against other major currencies, even in the absence of any significant impactful British data.
  • Furthermore, its gains came thanks to positive trading conditions.
  • In the case of the GBP/USD pair, it rose to the resistance level of 1.2798 before settling around 1.2738 at the time of writing this analysis.

As a currency that has become more sensitive to risk, the Pound Sterling benefited from the optimistic market sentiment at the beginning of the week. However, with little other support, the Pound Sterling’s gains were relatively modest, with the Pound Sterling primarily rising against safer currencies rather than its riskier counterparts.

Dollar Price Affected by US Inflation Figures

According to licensed trading platforms, the US dollar has retreated from its previous highs after US inflation rates came in line with expectations. According to economic data results, the US Consumer Price Index rose to 2.7% in November, as expected, but this was higher than 2.6% in October, marking the fifth consecutive increase.

It was also announced that the US Consumer Price Index rose by 0.3% on a monthly basis, which is also in line with expectations. The core Consumer Price Index recorded 0.31% in November, with the 12-month rate remaining at 3.3%, which is in line with analysts’ forecasts. Overall, the main conclusions are that US inflation is proving to be stubborn, which will limit the pace of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate cuts in 2025. However, the Federal Reserve is likely to cut interest rates again next week as the numbers were in line with expectations.

Pound Sterling Supported by China’s Policies

China’s stimulus measures this week have supported risk appetite and expectations of further cuts in Chinese interest rates. There were reports that the Politburo had changed its 2025 forecast for China’s monetary policy from cautious to appropriately loose. This would be the first official change in language since 2010. As a result, hopes for political stimulus have supported commodities and British stocks, which in turn helped support the Pound Sterling. However, there are still significant geopolitical pressures and uncertainties.

US Interest Rate Expectations

After financial markets and investors reacted to the US jobs and inflation announcements, financial markets are expecting another US interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve next week, with markets pricing in a near 90% chance of a 25bp cut. The US Federal Reserve will generally enter a blackout period this week, but there will be increased focus on the 2025 outlook. President-elect Trump has recently indicated that he will not ask Fed Chairman Powell to resign, although there is an element of ambiguity as he has stated that Powell may resign if asked. As such, uncertainty may limit the scope for buying the US dollar.

Trading Tips:

It seems clear that the performance of the British pound is waiting for more stimulus so that it does not get sold and lose its recent gains, as the sterling is a risk currency

Technical Analysis for the GBP/USD pair today:

According to the performance on the daily chart, the GBP/USD pair remains in a neutral position with an upward bias. The bulls’ success in moving towards the resistance levels of 1.2840 and the psychological resistance of 1.3000 will strengthen the upward trend. Conversely, and on the same time frame, a return to the vicinity of the 1.2610 support will undermine the current upward outlook. The Relative Strength Index is in a neutral position, confirming the balance between bears and bulls. Technically, the MACD is turning upwards but still needs more gains to confirm. Today, GBP/USD will be affected by the announcement of weekly US jobless claims and the reading of the Producer Price Index. Furthermore, this is in addition to the extent of investor risk appetite.

8 vitamins and supplements for weight loss backed by science |

By |2024-12-12T22:11:48+02:00December 12, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Experts agree that eating wholesome, healthy meals, reducing calories, and increasing physical activity are the best ways to lose weight and keep it off long-term. Still, many people turn to vitamins and supplements for weight loss. In fact, around 15% of people have tried weight loss pills and weight loss supplements at some point in their lives.

The question is: Do supplements help with weight loss? And if so, what are the best options for weight loss?

Ro shares what to know about losing weight with supplements and the best research-backed supplements to boost metabolism.

Do Weight Loss Supplements Work?

The multi-billion dollar weight loss industry offers products ranging from diet pills and supplements to weight loss shakes and protein bars, all promising weight loss. However, these weight loss pills and products may not be as effective as advertised.

This is partly because supplements and vitamins for weight loss aren’t as heavily regulated as you might imagine. The Food and Drug Administration oversees dietary supplements for weight loss and sometimes takes harmful weight loss products off the market. But they don’t formally approve vitamins and supplements for specific uses, including weight loss.  So if you see a vitamin or supplement advertised as being able to help you burn fat or reduce body weight, you should take these claims with a grain of salt.

All that said, certain supplements may act as metabolism boosters, help reduce body fat, improve your overall health, and potentially help you decrease your body weight, if you have an underlying deficiency. These work best when combined with other healthy lifestyle choices, like eating a healthy diet and engaging in physical activity

8 Weight Loss Vitamins and Supplements to Boost Metabolism

Most of the supplements that can be used as part of an effective weight loss routine are naturally occurring, meaning you can get them from natural foods. If you eat a balanced diet, you may already get enough of these compounds. Still, some people may be deficient in these components, and supplementing with them in pill form may help boost metabolism and burn calories more efficiently, not to mention improve the overall functioning of your body.

1. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 helps with many essential processes in the body, including the functioning of the central nervous system and the production of red blood cells. It also plays an important part in energy metabolism, and is sometimes used by athletes to increase their endurance.

Low levels of vitamin B12 are common, especially in people who don’t consume animal products, because animal products are the primary food source for vitamin B12. Others at risk of vitamin B12 deficiencies include older people, those with anemia or digestive disorders, and people who’ve had gastrointestinal surgery.

At this time, there is no proof that supplementing with B12 will boost your metabolism if you are not deficient. But people with a vitamin B12 deficiency may see a metabolism boost.

2. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is present in a limited number of foods—fatty fish and cod liver oil are some of the best food sources. You can also get it through sun exposure. Vitamin D can help with many processes in the body, like building bones and reducing inflammation. It also plays a vital role in processing sugar.

If you are wondering which vitamins are good for losing belly fat, you might want to add this supplement to your arsenal—some think of vitamin D as a fat burner. For example, a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that supplementing with vitamin D and calcium may reduce belly fat in people with overweight and obesity.

Because vitamin D is hard to obtain from foods and many of us don’t get adequate sun exposure, vitamin D deficiency is common. Contact your healthcare provider to find out if you may be deficient in vitamin D and whether supplementing could help you achieve modest weight loss.

3. Calcium

Calcium is a mineral found in abundance in the body. It’s rare for someone to be calcium deficient, but some groups are at risk, including postmenopausal women, older adults, people who don’t consume dairy products because of allergies or dietary preferences, people with a history of eating disorders, and adolescents.

Calcium helps build strong bones and teeth, plays important roles in the circulatory and neurological systems, and regulates hormones. It also helps regulate metabolism and plays a part in weight management.

One study suggests that adding calcium and vitamin D supplementation to a lower-calorie diet may increase fat loss in people who typically consume low levels of calcium compared to people who only lower their calorie intake. Another study showed similar results, suggesting an association between calcium and vitamin D supplements and diet-induced weight loss.

4. Magnesium

Magnesium is a nutrient found in nuts, whole grains, and leafy greens. It helps regulate your nervous system, muscles, blood pressure, and blood sugar. There are indications that magnesium supplements may help people lose weight, especially if they have certain underlying conditions.

Studies suggest that supplementing with magnesium may help certain populations lower their BMI and decrease their waist circumference, especially those with hypertension, obesity, magnesium deficiency, and insulin resistance.

5. Green tea extract

While green tea isn’t a vitamin, it’s one of the few weight loss supplements with some research behind it. You can consume green tea as a beverage, but you can also consume it in pill form.

Green tea is thought to potentially help with weight management because of its main ingredients: catechins and caffeine, which may help increase metabolism and act as appetite suppressants. Green tea supplementation may contribute to a small amount of weight loss in people with overweight or obesity, though the jury is out regarding whether this amount is clinically significant.

Green tea may also play a role in fat oxidation during moderate-intensity exercise and glucose tolerance in certain populations. A small study also showed that it increased metabolism, meaning it helped participants burn more calories throughout the day.

6. Green coffee extract

Green coffee extract has gained some attention for its potential to support weight loss—early research hints at modest benefits. However, results are inconclusive and more research is needed to determine if the supplement is effective.

Some side effects of green coffee extract can include upset stomach, headaches, difficulty sleeping, and abnormal heart rhythms. As with any supplement, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating green coffee extract into your routine, especially if you are sensitive to caffeine.

7. Fiber

Taking a fiber supplement can help with weight loss by making you feel full, which can reduce how much you eat. Soluble fiber, in particular, forms a gel-like substance in your stomach that slows digestion, keeping you satisfied for longer. Studies have found fiber intake to be associated with reduced subsequent calorie intake. Fiber supplements can be a convenient way to increase your fiber intake, but it’s important to choose the right one for you and consult with a health care professional before adding it to your weight loss plan. Make sure to stay hydrated when taking fiber supplements; without enough water intake, they can have a constipating effect.

8. Protein powder

Your body burns more calories digesting protein than fats or carbs. Protein can also increase satiety, so adding protein powder to your diet may boost your metabolism and help you feel full longer. Protein can help maintain muscle mass while losing weight, which is important for a healthy metabolism, and stabilizes blood sugar to reduce cravings. Choose a protein powder that fits your needs—popular types of protein powder include whey, casein, soy, and plant-based options like pea or hemp protein. Try to avoid protein powder with a lot of added sugar.

Should You Take Supplements for Weight Loss?

Most over-the-counter vitamins and supplements marketed for weight loss are of little use and may be no better than a placebo. A report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office states, “Little is known about whether weight loss supplements are effective, but some supplements have been associated with the potential for physical harm.”

This is why it’s best to review any weight loss supplements you are considering taking with your health care provider. Most shouldn’t be a problem, as long as you take them in appropriate dosages, but they may not offer the health benefits you’re looking for, especially if you’re not deficient in them.

If you’re struggling to lose weight and are overweight, have obesity, and/or have Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, consider speaking to a health care provider about weight loss medications that are proven to be effective in certain people, like Ozempic or Wegovy. These medications belong to a class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists. They work by increasing feelings of fullness, slowing down the process of stomach emptying, and reducing appetite.

Time to Sell XRP? Whale Dumps $95.5M on Coinbase

By |2024-12-12T22:09:35+02:00December 12, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

XRP, the world’s third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is continuously making waves following whale interest and its impressive performance. However, recent whale activity appears to be a cause for concern for XRP holders, as crypto whales have reportedly dumped nearly a hundred million dollars worth of XRP tokens onto the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange.

XRP Whale Dumps $95.5 Million in Tokens

On December 13, 2024, the blockchain-based transaction tracker Whale Alert posted on X (formerly Twitter) that 39.43 million XRP tokens worth $95.5 million were transferred from an unknown wallet to Coinbase.

This whale activity indicates a bearish signal, even as sentiment around XRP appears bullish. Additionally, it raises the question of whether this whale knows something about XRP that suggests its price is poised for a decline.

$55 Million of XRP Outflows

This transaction seems to refuse the on-chain metrics, which currently appear bullish. According to the on-chain analytics firm Coinglass, XRP’s spot inflow/outflow data reveals that exchanges are continuously witnessing significant outflows. This indicates a potential upside rally and further hints at ideal buying opportunities.

Source: Coinglass

Based on the data, exchanges have witnessed a significant $55 million XRP outflow in the past 48 hours, suggesting strong interest and confidence from long-term holders.

XRP Technical Analysis and Upcoming Level

According to expert technical analysis, XRP has been trading in a pattern of lower highs and lower lows since the beginning of December 2024. However, it is currently consolidating near the lower high boundary. This price consolidation suggests that XRP’s bearish trend may soon come to an end, paving the way for a potential bull run.

Based on technical analysis, if XRP breaks out of the consolidation zone and closes a four-hour candle above the $2.50 level, there is a strong possibility it could rise by 15% to reach the $2.90 level in the coming days.

Conversely, if XRP breaks down from the consolidation zone and closes a four-hour candle below the $2.30 level, it could decline by 15% to reach the $2.00 level in the near future.

Current Price Momentum

Currently, XRP is trading near $2.42 and hasn’t experienced any price changes in the last 24 hours. During the same period, its trading volume dropped by 40%, indicating lower participation from traders and investors amid the recent sharp price decline.

Nutriterra® Total Omega-3, a canola-based oil designed to deliver essential omega-3 fatty acids, has received approval from Health Canada for use in dietary supplements.

The product was granted a product license by Health Canada’s Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD), which allows it to be marketed as a source of DHA and ALA – essential fatty acids that support heart, brain and overall cardiovascular health.

This milestone builds on earlier recognition by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which approved Nutriterra in 2020 for food and animal feed use.

“Health Canada’s approval recognizes Nutriterra’s ability to support heart and brain health and provides a new option to meet the growing demand for plant-based total omega-3 with DHA, EPA and ALA,” said Benita Boettner, the company’s nutritional general manager.

Nutriterra addresses a persistent challenge: the world’s growing need for omega-3 fatty acids and the ocean’s limited capacity to sustainably supply them. The product is derived from Omega-3 Canola, a proprietary crop that offers a scalable, land-based alternative to fish oil. According to the company, a single hectare of the crop yields as much DHA as 10,000 kilograms (22,000 pounds) of wild-caught fish – a figure that underscores its environmental promise.

The oil’s unique fatty acid profile – which includes DHA, EPA and ALA – positions Nutriterra as the first plant-based long-chain omega-3 oil to achieve this balance. It offers a vital resource for consumers and industries seeking to reduce pressure on marine ecosystems.

This Canadian approval follows a similar designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which granted Nutriterra New Dietary Ingredient status in 2021. The product has also been approved for use in Australia, New Zealand and other major markets, with regulatory applications underway in additional regions. With its dual promise of nutritional benefits and sustainability, Nutriterra is poised to redefine how omega-3 fatty acids are produced and consumed.

“With Health Canada’s approval for Nutriterra as a safe and effective dietary ingredient, we are well placed to attract new consumers and raise the consumption of omega-3 closer to the recommended daily intake,” Boettner said.

Solana price prediction: Can SOL hit $240 and break its downtrend?

By |2024-12-12T20:08:58+02:00December 12, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

  • SOL was up 14%, but the recovery faced a roadblock at $235.
  • Will the liquidity level at $245 trigger a breakout from the downtrend channel?

After peaking at a new all-time high of $264, Solana [SOL] cooled off and shed over 20% of its value in three weeks.

In December, SOL attempted to reverse recent losses. At press time, it was up 14% after retesting March highs as support. But can it breach its downtrend and extend the recovery?

In November, SOL price consolidated at March highs of $210 before climbing to an ATH of $264. Retesting the level as support meant it was a key level going forward.

However, recent recovery attempts were rejected at the range-highs of the downtrend channel. At press time, the upper levels coincided with $235.

A decisive move above $235 could break the short-term downtrend and reinforce a bullish target of $248 or $264.

That said, the RSI hasn’t decisively soared above the neutral level throughout December. This muted demand could delay a strong breakout prospect for SOL.

So, another price rejection at the range high could drag SOL back to the middle level or March highs.

According to Conglass’s liquidation heatmap, the key upside liquidity level was at $244-$245 area (bright yellow level). This meant that a breakout from the downtrend could push SOL to $245.

However, daily charts had another pocket of liquidity above $220, which was around the channel’s mid-range.

Taken together, the liquidation heatmap data suggested that SOL could slide towards $220 if it stalls at the range-high before attempting another break out from the channel.

Despite the likely choppy price action for SOL in the short term, the asset manager  Bitwise has maintained a bullish outlook in the long term. The firm predicted a $750 price target in 2025.

Can Multivitamins Reduce Cancer Risk and Slow Memory Loss?

By |2024-12-12T18:10:21+02:00December 12, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Multivitamins have ballooned into a $40 billion industry in the United States. In a world captivated by quick fixes, there’s a seductive call in the idea that vitamin supplement might help to prevent age-related health decline. But does this promise hold up under scientific scrutiny?

JoAnn Manson, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief of preventive medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, suggests that multivitamins may indeed play a role—particularly when combined with a healthy diet. Manson has been at the forefront of research into the potential of multivitamins to reduce risks associated with cancer and cognitive decline.

One of the most notable findings comes from the Physician’s Health Study (PHS) II, a randomized trial revealing an eight percent reduction in cancer risk among participants age 50 and older who took a daily multivitamin. Compared with a placebo, the study revealed a statistically significant decrease in total cancer incidence.

Similarly, multivitamins show promise in slowing age-related cognitive decline. A recent multivitamin clinical study led by Manson within the COcoa Supplement and Multivitamin Outcomes Study (COSMOS), involving more than 5,000 participants age 60 and older, found that daily multivitamin use could slow memory loss, effectively reducing cognitive aging by as much as two years. Although these findings appear encouraging, Manson emphasizes the need for further research to fully understand how multivitamins contribute to healthy aging, especially as part of broader dietary and lifestyle strategies.

Multivitamins for Older Adults—but Not as a Diet Replacement

Although multivitamins and plant-based diets have not been directly compared in clinical trials, Manson suggests they complement each other—especially for older adults, who may experience gaps in nutrition or difficulties absorbing and digesting nutrients. Multivitamins offer a safety net for micronutrient deficiencies, while plant-based diets deliver the fuel and fiber necessary for systemic health.

Manson recently co-authored a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that found a significant reduction in cardiovascular and coronary heart disease risk when participants maintained a 1:2 ratio of plant-to-animal dietary protein. This supports the case for incorporating more plant-based foods into daily meals, as they provide fiber, improve gut health, and promote overall caloric balance.

As she explains, “The overall pattern of the diet matters more than any specific food.” A healthy diet delivers the right blend of fiber, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. “You can’t take a really unhealthy diet that’s full of red meat and processed foods, throw a multivitamin at it, and expect good health,” Manson says. Fiber aids digestion, while proteins and fats help rebuild and protect muscles and the brain. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, provide the energy required to fuel bodily functions and physical activity.

Plant-based diets, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and plant-based proteins, can also support gut health, said Manson, improving digestion and enhancing the gut-brain connection—which is crucial for cognitive and overall health. Indeed, medical consensus now holds that microbes within the gut aid health in many ways (see “You Are What (Your Microbes) Eat,” November-December 2023). So, while a multivitamin alone may help deliver necessary nutrients, it can’t stand in for the digestive benefits that come from a plant-based diet.

Multivitamins are an adjunct to overall diet: for older adults, however, they may be secret superheroes, according to Manson. Manson plans a new randomized trial of multivitamins to further explore supplements’ role in promoting healthy aging.

Here’s Dogecoin Price If DOGE Market Cap Hits $137B and $472B

By |2024-12-12T18:08:17+02:00December 12, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Dogecoin’s price could skyrocket if it claims the XRP market cap of $137 billion or Ethereum’s valuation of $472 billion.

Dogecoin, which has continued to collapse since the start of the new week, has its eyes set on more growth, according to analyses from multiple market commentators. These price targets are capable of catalyzing a surge in its market cap.

DOGE Market Cap Hits Resistance

The meme coin’s market cap previously took center stage early in November, when it surged to a peak of $64 billion amid the price uptrend that saw DOGE break $0.40 on Nov. 12. With this market cap, Dogecoin overtook XRP and USDC to secure the sixth spot among the largest crypto assets.

However, as DOGE faced resistance and XRP skyrocketed, the meme coin has now dropped to the seventh position, boasting a market cap of $60 billion at the time of reporting. For context, XRP’s market cap has surged to $137 billion.

This valuation makes XRP the fourth-largest crypto asset, only behind Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT). Interestingly, XRP proponents are currently aiming to flip Ethereum, which currently has a market cap of $472 billion.

However, despite being largely below this region, some believe Dogecoin has the potential to challenge for a top three spot. Nonetheless, this would demand a massive spike in its price action.

Dogecoin Price if It Gets XRP or ETH Market Cap

For Dogecoin to reach XRP’s market cap of $137 billion, its price must rise to $0.93, assuming the circulating supply of 147 billion tokens remains fairly stable. Also, to hit Ethereum’s valuation of $472 billion, the Dogecoin price would need to reach a high of $3.2, surpassing the $1 mark by more than three times.

Interestingly, several analysts believe these prices are feasible for the original meme coin. Last month, Trader Tardigrade argued that Dogecoin’s second bull flag could push it to the $0.93 region. Also, market analyst Scofield asserted that it was only a matter of time before DOGE claimed $3.

Meanwhile, despite being bullish on Dogecoin’s price prospects, crypto exchange Changelly analysts do not expect DOGE to reach $0.9 anytime soon. They believe Dogecoin could only clinch $0.93 in October 2024, predicting further growth to $3.2 by March 2033.

Here’s Dogecoin Price If DOGE Market Cap Hits 7B and 2B
Dogecoin Price Prediction Changelly

For context, the price of Dogecoin has largely consolidated since Nov. 12, when the previous uptrend hit a massive roadblock. Following this resistance, DOGE gradually began to claim a new two-year peak of $0.4843 on Dec. 8 despite the mounting bearish pressure.

However, the gradual upward trend came to a halt this week as DOGE collapsed 11.22% on Monday on the back of a Bitcoin crash. Dogecoin now changes hands for $0.41, down 1.02% today.

XAG/USD bulls retain control above $32.00, over one-month high

By |2024-12-12T17:33:03+02:00December 12, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • Silver attracts some buyers on Thursday and remains closer to over a one-month top.
  • The technical setup favors bullish traders and supports prospects for additional gains.
  • Any corrective pullback could be seen as a buying opportunity and remain limited.

Silver (XAG/USD) trades with a positive bias above the $32.00 mark during the Asian session on Thursday and remains close to over a one-month high touched earlier this week. Moreover, the technical setup suggests that the path of least resistance for the white metal remains to the upside.

This week’s sustained move beyond the 200-period Simple Moving Average (SMA) on the 4-hour chart was seen as a key trigger for bullish traders. Moreover, the recent move-up witnessed over the past two weeks or so has been along an upward-sloping channel. Apart from this, positive technical indicators on daily/hourly charts validate the near-term positive outlook for the XAU/USD and support prospects for additional gains.

Hence, a subsequent move up towards retesting the monthly swing high, around the $32.55-$32.60 area, which now coincides with the top boundary of the aforementioned channel, looks like a distinct possibility. Some follow-through buying will confirm a fresh breakout and lift the XAG/USD to the next relevant hurdle near the $32.80-$32.85 region en route to the $33.00 round figure mark and the $33.20-$33.25 horizontal resistance.

On the flip side, weakness below the $32.00-$31.90 area now seems to find some support near the $31.60 horizontal zone ahead of the $31.45-$31.40 confluence. The latter comprises the 200-period SMA on the 4-hour chart and the ascending channel support, which if broken decisively might prompt aggressive selling and shift the bias in favor of bearish traders. The XAG/USD might then drop to sub-$31.00 levels en route to mid-$30.00s.

Silver FAQs

Silver is a precious metal highly traded among investors. It has been historically used as a store of value and a medium of exchange. Although less popular than Gold, traders may turn to Silver to diversify their investment portfolio, for its intrinsic value or as a potential hedge during high-inflation periods. Investors can buy physical Silver, in coins or in bars, or trade it through vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds, which track its price on international markets.

Silver prices can move due to a wide range of factors. Geopolitical instability or fears of a deep recession can make Silver price escalate due to its safe-haven status, although to a lesser extent than Gold’s. As a yieldless asset, Silver tends to rise with lower interest rates. Its moves also depend on how the US Dollar (USD) behaves as the asset is priced in dollars (XAG/USD). A strong Dollar tends to keep the price of Silver at bay, whereas a weaker Dollar is likely to propel prices up. Other factors such as investment demand, mining supply – Silver is much more abundant than Gold – and recycling rates can also affect prices.

Silver is widely used in industry, particularly in sectors such as electronics or solar energy, as it has one of the highest electric conductivity of all metals – more than Copper and Gold. A surge in demand can increase prices, while a decline tends to lower them. Dynamics in the US, Chinese and Indian economies can also contribute to price swings: for the US and particularly China, their big industrial sectors use Silver in various processes; in India, consumers’ demand for the precious metal for jewellery also plays a key role in setting prices.

Silver prices tend to follow Gold’s moves. When Gold prices rise, Silver typically follows suit, as their status as safe-haven assets is similar. The Gold/Silver ratio, which shows the number of ounces of Silver needed to equal the value of one ounce of Gold, may help to determine the relative valuation between both metals. Some investors may consider a high ratio as an indicator that Silver is undervalued, or Gold is overvalued. On the contrary, a low ratio might suggest that Gold is undervalued relative to Silver.

Yen Forecast to Fall Back to 160 USD/JPY

By |2024-12-12T16:10:00+02:00December 12, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

Image © Adobe Images

The Japanese Yen might not see a strong 2025 after all.

Analysts at ING Bank see a route to 160 in Dollar-Yen (USD/JPY) over the next year, disappointing a consensus looking for Yen outperformance.

Currently, market forward points show the market looks for USD/JPY to move towards the mid-140s next year, in a steady trend of Yen appreciation.

Part of this assumption rests on the view that the Bank of Japan will raise interest rates in a world where everyone else is cutting, creating a favourable interest rate convergence story for JPY.

ING’s economists maintain that the Bank of Japan will hike by 25bp on 20 December, and further hikes will follow, but these won’t put a rocket under the Yen as was seen earlier this year when the Bank raised rates for the first time in years.

“Recall that it was the hawkish hike in July that prompted the disorderly unwind of the carry trade. This time, however, the market is not as short yen as it was in July and the BoJ has probably learned its communication lesson. We do, however, look for two further 25bp rate hikes next year,” says ING.

Bank of Japan hikes won’t be able to close the gap with U.S. yields, which will remain elevated as the Trump 2.0 era commences.

“Our forecast profile of a higher USD/JPY is largely down to the fact that we expect the US 10yr Treasury to end 2025 at 5.50%. There is some talk of a ‘Mar-a-Lago accord’ to weaken the US dollar. We think Trump’s policies are dollar positive, but if Washington’s dollar policy were to make an impact, especially if US growth disappoints, we suspect USD/JPY would lead $ lower,” says ING.

The bank forecasts USD/JPY at 153 in one month, 155 in three months, 157 in six months and 160 in 12 months.
