Sleep supplements may help Americans get better rest

By |2025-10-22T03:17:17+03:00October 22, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

(CONSUMER REPORTS) – About 1 in 6 Americans used dietary or natural supplements in the past year to help them sleep better, according to a Consumer Reports survey.

“If you’re consistently losing sleep, studies have shown that it can wreak havoc on your body – and increase your risks for anxiety and depression,” said Kevin Loria of Consumer Reports.

Unlike sleep medications doctors prescribe, supplements can be bought over the counter. Store shelves are stocked with pills, teas and tonics claiming to help with sleep.

Melatonin is a naturally produced hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and helps control when people feel sleepy and awake. Evidence suggests that taking melatonin can help people fall asleep about 7 minutes faster on average.

“Research shows it may be useful for people with jet lag or certain sleep disorders, but be sure not to overdo it – you don’t want to interfere with your body’s natural production of melatonin,” Loria said.

Other supplements promoted to help with sleep include CBD, a compound found in both hemp and marijuana that doesn’t cause a high. Some early research suggests CBD may be a reasonable treatment for insomnia, but more research needs to be done.

One study suggests that if vitamin D levels are low, adding it may help people fall asleep faster and sleep longer.

For people with restless leg syndrome, doctors may suggest taking iron.

“If you do decide to try a supplement, be sure to look for a trustworthy seal on the bottle from a group like U.S. Pharmacopeia, ConsumerLab.com or NSF,” Loria said.

Consumer Reports experts recommend the Magicteam Sound Machines White Noise Machine as an inexpensive, easy-to-use option with high-quality sound to pair with sleep supplements.

Crypto Funds Bleed $513M But SOL Posts 67% Inflow Surge

By |2025-10-22T02:55:24+03:00October 22, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Disclaimer: This is a Press Release provided by a third party who is responsible for the content. Please conduct your own research before taking any action based on the content.

The ETP market just flashed a warning signal, as crypto investment products posted $513 million in outflows last week. Bitcoin led the exodus with $946 million bleeding from ETPs. But all is not lost as Solana funds bucked the trend with inflows surging 67% to $156 million.

Institutions rotate from bloated Bitcoin into altcoins offering better risk-reward at current valuations. The Solana price prediction suggests moves toward $300 if momentum sustains, but at above $100 billion market cap, perfect execution will result in slight gains.

DeepSnitch AI has raised above $446,000, though, and as the SOL price projects solid returns, this utility-oriented presale offers truly explosive growth potential.

Crypto ETPs bleed $513M as Bitcoin exits accelerate

Crypto investment products saw $513 million in outflows in mid-October, ending the two-week inflow streak that totaled $9.1 billion. CoinShares head of research James Butterfill noted ETP investors largely shrugged off the October 10 Binance liquidity cascade, while on-chain investors proved more bearish.

Bitcoin was the major asset left bleeding, with outflows totaling $946 million pulling year-to-date inflows down to $29.3 billion, significantly lagging behind last year’s $41.2 billion. Nevertheless, Bitcoin has bounded back, brushing $111K once more on 20 October. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped to 22 on October 18 amid Bitcoin tumbling below $105,000, reflecting strong fear by spot investors.

Still, Solana and XRP funds continued attracting capital amid optimism on new ETP launches. Solana ETPs posted inflows surging 67% compared to the previous week, totaling $156 million, while XRP attracted $74 million. The institutional rotation from Bitcoin into altcoins signals where the better risk-reward ratios lie.

DeepSnitch AI price prediction: Set to launch intelligence infrastructure with 100x potential

DeepSnitch AI is selling fast, set to democratize the edge monopolies have in crypto trading, using five specialized agents that will monitor activity a step ahead of the crowd.

The unified dashboard launches progressively after presale, with early buyers receiving priority access to features as they go live. Staking rewards will lock tokens off exchanges while paying yield, tightening supply as adoption scales.

When it launches, its AuditSnitch, for instance, will analyze smart contracts instantly and send plain-language safety verdicts to users via Telegram, protecting traders from rug pulls that could drain their wallets completely in a matter of seconds. Its SnitchScan, meanwhile, will screen tokens using layered filters checking contract age, liquidity locks, and developer history, identifying safe opportunities before they pump and flagging scams before they collapse.

With the AI sector growth projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2030 and institutions rotating from Bitcoin into higher-growth opportunities, especially in a volatile market, DeepSnitch AI is in the perfect place, at the nexus of crypto intelligence and explosive adoption potential. This is where opportunity lies right now, and it’s priced for presale at only $0.01953.

Solana price prediction as founder unveils Percolator perpetual DEX

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko unveiled plans on October 20 for Percolator, a new sharded perpetual exchange protocol built on Solana. This decentralized trading protocol will allow traders to speculate on cryptocurrency prices without expiration dates, consisting of two main programs including a Router managing collateral and portfolio margins, and a Slab perpetuals engine run by liquidity providers.

This news comes as Solana ETPs posted $156 million in inflows last week, with flows surging 67% compared to the previous period amid optimism on new ETP launches. However, VanEck research claims Hyperliquid has been poaching high-value users from Solana, with the DEX earning 35% of all blockchain revenue in July specifically at Solana’s expense. Technical analyst John Bollinger stated SOL is showing potential W bottoms in Bollinger Band terms, with the recovery expected to face selling at the 20-day EMA near $201.

Crypto Funds Bleed 3M But SOL Posts 67% Inflow Surge

However, the Solana price prediction 2025 highlights that at above $100 billion market cap, even SOL rallying to $260 would mean solid returns for patient holders, with more explosive gains to be found elsewhere, especially at presale pricing.

Bitcoin price prediction as BTC rebounds above $107K as Trump-Xi summit sparks optimism

Bitcoin ETPs bled $946 million last week, the largest single-asset outflow, pulling year-to-date inflows down to $29.3 billion and significantly lagging behind last year’s $41.2 billion. It rose again above $111,000 on October 20, albeit for a short time before falling to $107k, after traders turned bullish following Trump’s confirmation of an October 31 summit with Xi Jinping, raising hopes of a possible trade deal between the US and China.

Despite recent corrections, 67% of institutional investors remain positive on Bitcoin over the next three to six months according to a Coinbase survey of 124 respondents, though 45% believe markets are in late-stage bull runs.

The BTC price could reach moving averages where bears are expected to mount strong defense, but if buyers overcome the barrier, it suggests the correction may be over with attempts toward the all-time high of $126,199.

Yet at above $2 trillion market cap, even Bitcoin’s projected moves toward $126,000 deliver modest percentage returns. Wealth-building opportunities sit in earlier-stage projects where adoption curves are beginning, and DeepSnitch AI is a perfect example positioned to deliver much higher rewards to traders who get in there now.

The bottom line

Solana ETPs surged 67% as institutions rotated from Bitcoin, suggesting SOL could reach $300 if momentum sustains. But with over $100 billion as a market cap, explosive returns aren’t on the cards. Bitcoin reclaimed $111,000 on summit optimism before falling back to the $107k level, but trillion-dollar valuations limit upside for retail seeking wealth creation.

While Yakovenko builds infrastructure for sophisticated traders, DeepSnitch AI is selling at speed at only $0.01953, and it’s set to democratize the tools retail needs now more than ever, with instant contract audits through AuditSnitch, token screening via SnitchScan, and real-time whale alerts via SnitchFeed. With this kind of information edge to offer as utility, this presale has true potential to explode.

FAQs

What’s the Solana price prediction for Q4 2025?

The Solana price prediction suggests SOL could reach $300 if institutional inflows sustain and ETF approval materializes, but DeepSnitch AI at $0.01953 offers far more explosive upside with AI-driven utility backing exponential growth.

How does SOL forecast compare to DeepSnitch AI potential?

The SOL forecast projects growth from an established $100 billion market cap with 67% institutional inflow surge, while DeepSnitch AI combines presale pricing with five working agents, positioning it for returns mature altcoins can’t attain from current valuations.

Is Solana price prediction 2025 better than new presales?

Solana price prediction 2025 may see solid institutional-driven growth, but DeepSnitch AI’s $0.01953 entry with genuine utility offers superior risk-reward for investors seeking life-changing gains.

XAG/USD dives below $50.00 as the Dollar rallies

By |2025-10-22T01:38:46+03:00October 22, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

Silver (XAG/USD) is finally correcting lower. Market expectations that the US and China will de-escalate trade tensions are boosting the US Dollar’s recovery and hurting precious metals. Silver has extended its reversal from last week’s highs at the $55.00 area, to session lows near $49.00 so far.

US President Trump soothed markets on Monday, announcing that he was planning to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping next week, and that he expected to reach a “fair deal” which would lead to a good trade relationship between the two countries. These comments tackled fears of a trade war and have sent the US Dollar rallying across the board.

Technical analysis: A bearish H&S pattern is in play

Silver has broken below the base of the ascending channel from mid-September lows and extended losses below the neckline of a bearish Head & Shoulders, a common figure in trend shifts, at the $50.71 area.

The pair is attempting to return above the $50.00 psychological level at the time of writing, and is likely to retest the mentioned H&S neckline, which might act as a resistance now, at the 50.80 area. Further up, the target would be the reverse trendline, near 52.10.

To the downside, intra-day lows are at $49.20 ahead of the October 9 low, at $48.45. The H&S pattern’s measured target is coincident with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of the September-October rally, at $46.15.

Silver FAQs

Silver is a precious metal highly traded among investors. It has been historically used as a store of value and a medium of exchange. Although less popular than Gold, traders may turn to Silver to diversify their investment portfolio, for its intrinsic value or as a potential hedge during high-inflation periods. Investors can buy physical Silver, in coins or in bars, or trade it through vehicles such as Exchange Traded Funds, which track its price on international markets.

Silver prices can move due to a wide range of factors. Geopolitical instability or fears of a deep recession can make Silver price escalate due to its safe-haven status, although to a lesser extent than Gold’s. As a yieldless asset, Silver tends to rise with lower interest rates. Its moves also depend on how the US Dollar (USD) behaves as the asset is priced in dollars (XAG/USD). A strong Dollar tends to keep the price of Silver at bay, whereas a weaker Dollar is likely to propel prices up. Other factors such as investment demand, mining supply – Silver is much more abundant than Gold – and recycling rates can also affect prices.

Silver is widely used in industry, particularly in sectors such as electronics or solar energy, as it has one of the highest electric conductivity of all metals – more than Copper and Gold. A surge in demand can increase prices, while a decline tends to lower them. Dynamics in the US, Chinese and Indian economies can also contribute to price swings: for the US and particularly China, their big industrial sectors use Silver in various processes; in India, consumers’ demand for the precious metal for jewellery also plays a key role in setting prices.

Silver prices tend to follow Gold’s moves. When Gold prices rise, Silver typically follows suit, as their status as safe-haven assets is similar. The Gold/Silver ratio, which shows the number of ounces of Silver needed to equal the value of one ounce of Gold, may help to determine the relative valuation between both metals. Some investors may consider a high ratio as an indicator that Silver is undervalued, or Gold is overvalued. On the contrary, a low ratio might suggest that Gold is undervalued relative to Silver.

6 Foods With More Vitamin A Than a Carrot

By |2025-10-22T01:16:47+03:00October 22, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Vitamin A keeps your skin and eyes healthy, and supports your immune system and reproductive health. Your body can’t make vitamin A, so you’ve got to get it by eating foods that contain vitamin A or carotenoids, which the body converts into vitamin A.

1. Beef Liver

frederique wacquier / Getty Images

Vitamin A: 6,582 mcg RAE
Serving size: 3 ounces

The best source of vitamin A is beef liver. A 3-ounce serving contains a whopping 6,582 micrograms (mcg) of retinol activity equivalents (RAE), which is about seven times the required daily intake of vitamin A.

It’s OK to have beef liver occasionally, but too much preformed vitamin A can make you ill. In addition, since liver and other organ meats are high in saturated fats, they should only be eaten occasionally and in moderation.

Measuring Vitamin A

There are two ways to get vitamin A:

  • Pre-formed vitamin A (retinol), found in animal products
  • Provitamin A carotenoids, substances in plants that the body converts into vitamin A

These forms act differently within your body, so the recommended intake of vitamin A is given in retinol activity equivalents (RAE). RAEs are measured in micrograms (mcg). For people 14 and older:

  • Males need 900 mcg of RAE daily
  • Females need 700 mcg RAE daily

A half-cup of raw carrots contains 459 mcg of RAE, or about half of the recommended intake for males.

2. Liverwurst

Vitamin A: 1,500 mcg RAE
Serving size: 1 slice 2.5 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick

Liverwurst—a type of sausage made from liver meat—is another outstanding source of vitamin A. It contains 1,495 mcg RAE, more than 5 times the recommended daily serving for males.

3. Sweet Potatoes

Vitamin A: 1,730 mcg RAE
Serving size: 1 whole large sweet potato, baked

One large sweet potato with skin contains 1,730 mcg RAE, making it easy to exceed your recommended daily intake. However, the vitamin A in a sweet potato comes in the form of carotenoids (as it does in carrots also), which are not dangerous in high doses, unlike preformed retinol.

The great thing about sweet potatoes is that they’re so versatile. From sweet potato fries to sweet potato soup, there are plenty of foods you can make with this source of vitamin A.

4. Spinach

Little Hand Images / Getty Images

Vitamin A: 573 mcg RAE
Serving size: 1/2 cup boiled

Popeye was onto something with spinach—maybe it was all that Vitamin A that helped him stay so strong. A half cup of boiled spinach contains 573 mcg RAE, enough to get you well on your way to meeting your vitamin A goals.

5. Pumpkin Soup

Vitamin A: 902 mcg RAE
Serving size: 1 cup

Pumpkin packs a punch when it comes to vitamin A: one cup contains 902 mcg RAE. Pureed pumpkin is a great base for a healthy soup.

6. Pumpkin Pie

Vitamin A: 902 mcg RAE
Serving size: 1 slice

A sweet way of getting your vitamin A intake is with a slice of pumpkin pie. A commercially prepared pie contains about 488 mcg RAE in each slice.

What Are Other Sources of Vitamin A?

Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, so it’s hard to find foods that can compete. However, you can get plenty of vitamin A in your diet by incorporating foods that are good sources of vitamin A (even if they contain less RAE than carrots).

Other good sources of vitamin A include:

  • Herring (fish): 219 mcg RAE per 3 ounces
  • Vanilla ice cream: 185 mcg RAE per 2/3 cup
  • Skim milk, fortified with vitamin A: 149 mcg RAE per cup
  • Cantaloupe: 135 mcg RAE per 1/2 cup
  • Ricotta cheese (part skim): 135 mcg RAE per 1/2 cup
  • Red peppers: 117 mcg RAE per 1/2 cup
  • Mango: 112 mcg RAE per whole mango

What Are the Benefits of Vitamin A?

Vitamin A has a host of benefits. Many of them come from consuming vitamin A in your diet, and might not be replicated by taking vitamin A supplements. The benefits of vitamin A include:

  • Healthy teeth and bones
  • Healthy skin
  • Good eyesight, especially in low light
  • Healthy pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Antioxidant
  • Cancer protection

The American Academy of Pediatrics cautions that vitamin A supplements do not prevent measles, a severe viral infection that is preventable by vaccination. Vitamin A deficiency is extremely rare in the United States, and oversupplementation with vitamin A can make you sick. In developing countries where vitamin A deficiency is common, supplementation in early childhood may provide some protection from measles.

Binance Coin (BNB) Extends Pullback as Meme-Coin Rug Pulls Sting BNB Chain

By |2025-10-22T00:54:12+03:00October 22, 2025|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Binance Coin (BNB) has fallen sharply this week, sliding 5% in the past 24 hours and over 12% in the last seven days, as new scam alerts and a high-profile memecoin rug pull shake confidence in the BNB Chain ecosystem. The token currently trades around $1,060, marking its lowest level in nearly a month.

The downturn comes as Binance co-founders Changpeng “CZ” Zhao and Yi He warn investors about a wave of phishing scams and fake memecoin airdrops spreading through social media.

In one of the most damaging incidents, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of BNB Chain, followed by nearly four million users, was hijacked to promote a fraudulent token campaign linked to a fake airdrop.

CZ and Yi He Sound the Alarm

CZ took to X to issue a direct warning, “Official accounts do not endorse any particular memecoin.” He cautioned users against interacting with suspicious contract addresses or promotional posts, noting that scammers increasingly exploit verified profiles to appear legitimate.

Yi He echoed these concerns, reminding traders that responsibility also lies with users. “Please, while everyone is doing on-chain investments, also take responsibility for your own actions,” she stated.

The recent “Sir Pancake” scam, a fake token that generated $20 million in volume before collapsing, shows the scale of the problem. Data suggests that roughly 2.5% of new tokens launched on BNB Chain since 2022 have exhibited scam-like behavior, often disappearing within hours of launch.

Meme-Coin Frenzy Tests Binance Coin (BNB) Investors

BNB Chain has become a hub for meme coin speculation, but with enthusiasm comes risk. The latest wave of exploits shows that even platforms with strong security reputations remain vulnerable when hype outpaces due diligence.

Tokens launched on the BNB Chain have produced massive gains, one trader converted $3,500 into nearly $7.9 million in just days. That frenzy has fueled ecosystem activity and attracted speculative capital, but it has also exposed Binance Coin (BNB) and its holders to heightened risk.

Binance Coin (BNB) saw its bullish momentum reach new heights earlier this cycle, with some analysts projecting a run toward $1,500 and beyond. A recent forecast suggested BNB could hit up to $1,610.44 at its peak. BNB did indeed register a fresh all-time high above $1,200 in early October 2025.

However, the euphoria has cooled as broader market conditions turned sour and infrastructure issues crept in. Binance Coin has slipped back toward $1,100 as the crypto market pulled back, and the BNB Chain faced multiple disruptions, including scam projects that have significantly exposed BNB investors.

XAU/USD corrected sharply lower, long term bullish trend intact

By |2025-10-21T23:37:21+03:00October 21, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

XAU/USD Current price: $4,110.22

  • A better market mood heavily weighed on the safe-haven metal on Tuesday.
  • The US will release Consumer Price Index data next Friday.
  • XAU/USD could extend its corrective decline towards the $4,000 threshold.

Spot Gold plunged on Tuesday amid a better market mood and resurgent US Dollar (USD) demand. The XAU/USD pair fell towards $4,080 before bouncing to the current $4,110 level, holding on to substantial losses in the American afternoon.

The market sentiment improved after the United States (US) President Donald Trump made some optimistic comments about a potential trade deal with China, ahead of an economic conference in South Korea next week, when he will likely meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. Global equities reflect the latest optimism, with most global indexes trading in the green.

On a negative note, the US government shutdown continues. The US Senate voted again on Monday on potential funding bills, rejecting both the Democratic and the Republican proposals, though market participants seem unconcerned.

The notorious absence of US macroeconomic data will be broken on Friday, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics will release September Consumer Price Index (CPI) data. The reading is critical ahead of the Federal Reserve (Fed) monetary policy meeting next week.

XAU/USD short-term technical outlook

The daily chart for the XAU/USD pair shows that the sharp decline could be seen as a corrective move. Technical indicators head south almost vertically, but remain within positive levels and erased extreme overbought conditions. At the same time, the pair keeps developing far above all bullish moving averages, with the 20 Simple Moving Average (SMA) currently at $4,001.20.

The near-term technical picture suggests XAU/USD may not be done correcting lower. The pair is currently developing far below its 20 SMA, which turned lower. The 100 and 200 SMAs maintain their bullish slopes below the current level, with the shorter one currently at $4,043. Finally, technical indicators approach oversold readings without signs of giving up and retaining their strong downward momentum.

EUR/JPY Forecast 21/10: Looking for Momentum (Chart)

By |2025-10-21T23:30:42+03:00October 21, 2025|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • The euro initially rallied against the Japanese yen during trading on Monday but has turned around to show signs of weakness again.
  • The ¥176 level seems to be an area that’s a bit of a magnet for price, but the most important thing to pay attention to on the chart is the fact that there is a massive gap underneath current pricing that could come into the picture to offer a bit of support.
  • Furthermore, the 50 Day EMA sits at the ¥174.22 level and is rising, so that does give us a little bit of support there as well.

Trend Continuation

We have been in an uptrend for some time, and I do believe that it will continue eventually, and that each pullback does tend to offer a bit of support and, more importantly, value. Ultimately, the Bank of Japan is in a situation where it probably cannot do much, at least not enough to turn the markets around. While we could fall in order to fill the gap, meaning that we could drop all the way back down to the ¥173.25 level, I still think there are plenty of buyers between here and there to at least cushion the fall, and then eventually turn things around. Ultimately, this means that I have no real interest in shorting this market, despite the fact that it does seem like it is struggling a bit in this general vicinity.

With all of that being said, this is a market that I think eventually has to deal with the 170 Ian level, which is an area that has acted like significant resistance. If we can break above that level, it would obviously be very bullish, and it could send this market much higher. In that environment, I see the ¥180 level as being very likely, perhaps even higher than that. Remember, this doesn’t have much to do with the euro and everything to do with the Japanese yen. This pair will move in the same direction and overall attitude as many other JPY-denominated markets.

Popular Protein Powders, Shakes Test Positive for Lead. Are They Safe?

By |2025-10-21T23:15:34+03:00October 21, 2025|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Many popular protein powders and shakes may contain lead, according to Consumer Reports. Anna Blazhuk/Getty Images
  • A new Consumer Reports investigation found that many popular protein powders and shakes contain high levels of lead.
  • More than two-thirds of the 23 products tested exceeded the organization’s self-set safety threshold of 0.5 micrograms per serving.
  • Plant-based powders, including products from Naked Nutrition and Huel, showed the highest levels of lead.
  • Experts say occasional use is unlikely to cause harm, but cumulative exposure could pose health risks for children and females of reproductive age.

A new Consumer Reports (CR) investigation has found that many popular protein powders and shakes contain high levels of lead.

The CR report found that over two‐thirds of the 23 products tested exceeded the nonprofit’s self-set safety threshold of 0.5 µg (micrograms) per serving.

The highest lead readings were found in plant-based powders. In more than two-thirds of the products analyzed, a single serving contained more lead than CR’s food safety experts say is safe to consume in a day, some by more than 10 times.

Notably, one serving of the Naked Nutrition Vegan Mass Gainer contained 7.7 µg of lead, and the Huel Black Edition measured 6.3 µg.

“It’s concerning that these results are even worse than the last time we tested,” Tunde Akinleye, a chemist and the CR food safety researcher who led the testing project, said in the report.

If you regularly consume protein powders or shakes, here’s what you need to know about lead exposure and what to look for on nutrition labels.

Consumer Reports contacted the protein powder companies included in their analysis.

Many companies responded that lead is a naturally occurring substance, and trace amounts can be present in plant-based ingredients worldwide.

Eight companies — Equip Foods, Garden of Life, KOS, Momentous, Muscle Meds, Muscle Tech, Orgain, and Vega — told CR that their ingredients and final products are tested for heavy metals.

Healthline reached out to Naked Nutrition and Huel, who expressed disappointment in the report.

“We take our customers’ health and product transparency extremely seriously and have reviewed the findings closely,” a spokesperson for Naked Nutrition told Healthline.

“It’s important to note that Naked Vegan Mass Gainer was the only vegan weight gainer included in the CR testing. As a weight gainer, it has a significantly larger serving size — approximately 315 grams, or about six scoops — compared with the 30 to 50 grams typical of standard protein powders. When viewed on a per-gram basis, our results are consistent with other plant-based protein products,” the spokesperson said.

Naked Nutrition claims that all of its ingredients are sourced from select suppliers that provide certificates of analysis, including heavy metals testing.

“We also retain samples from every production lot for ongoing verification, and Naked Vegan Mass Gainer is currently undergoing NSF content certification, which includes label-claim, toxicology, and contaminant testing,” the spokesperson said.

“We reviewed the available information and verified results through independent third-party testing, which confirmed that no heavy metals exceeded FDA reference intake levels for adults, including for sensitive groups such as women of childbearing age,” they continued.

A spokesperson from Huel said that the Natural Products Association (NPA) described the report as “alarmist, misleading, and unscientific,” and the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) said it creates a “misleading impression of risk.”

“Huel has also recently been accredited by NSF, the gold standard for product safety and quality, and the most recent NSF report showed undetectable levels of lead (‘non-detectable’ at their 3.6 microgram (µg) tolerance),” the spokesperson told Healthline.

“It is important to note that we are talking about minuscule variations here of 2 millionths of a gram versus 6 millionths of a gram,” they said.

Shannon O’Grady, CEO of Gnarly Nutrition, explained that the threshold for lead contaminants in the products included in the report may have been overly cautious. O’Grady wasn’t involved in the report.

“When considering the health risks of lead exposure, it’s important to talk about the levels that CR used as a threshold,” O’Grady told Healthline.

“CR used the same standards of safety as California’s Prop 65, which takes the expected lead exposure that won’t cause reproductive harm and divides it by 1,000. Some have said this threshold is extremely cautious and isn’t supported by the scientific literature,” she said.

According to O’Grady, the Food and Drug Administration’s current safety threshold for lead is precautionary yet realistic, given that lead is ubiquitous in the environment. Eating any food from the earth will expose an individual to lead.

“It’s estimated that the average American consumes 5.3 ug of lead daily via their diet, so it’s important for individuals to consider whether they are in a risk group for lead exposure (e.g., children and women of childbearing age),” O’Grady explained.

O’Grady said it’s unlikely that a single serving of plant-based protein powder would result in serious health effects. Still, it’s important to consider your cumulative exposure to lead in your diet and what you can do to minimize that exposure.

Registered dietitian Amy Chow agreed. “Low-level exposure over the long term can contribute to neurodevelopmental, renal, cardiovascular, reproductive, and bone health risks,” she told Healthline.

“However, the amount that would trigger concerns is dependent on a person’s absorption, age, health conditions, nutritional status, and other exposures,” said Chow, who wasn’t involved in the report.

Despite what the CR investigation revealed, it’s probably safe to include protein powder and shakes in a balanced diet in reasonable amounts.

Chow said that the levels found in the CR report are unlikely to cause lead poisoning (which is primarily from contaminated water, lead-based paint, and contaminated soil).

However, she added that no blood lead levels are considered safe, as lead has no useful function in the body.

“There tends to be higher levels of heavy metals in plant-based protein powders,” she said.

“You can minimize your risk by choosing a whey protein powder or a whey protein blend, using no more than one serving per day as a supplement (and not in place of whole foods), and eating a variety of protein-rich foods as your main source of protein.”

Chow recommended being more conservative with protein supplementation, especially for children, pregnant people, and older adults who are more vulnerable to heavy metal exposure.

“Consumers should be aware that plant-based proteins will always be the worst offenders because plants absorb heavy metals directly from the soil,” O’Grady explained.

Additionally, products such as mass gainers with a larger serving size will have higher heavy metals than a regular protein supplement.

Flavor matters, too. “Chocolate flavors of these products will also have higher levels of lead because of the addition of cocoa,” O’Grady said.

“Consumers should always look out for products that are third-party tested by groups like NSF, USP, and Informed Choice. Products that are third-party tested will display the logo of these testing groups on the front or back labels of their products,” she noted.

These third-party groups evaluate supplements for safety, validate label claims, and test products for a range of contaminants, including heavy metals, microbials, and pesticides.

Many people may rely on protein powder supplementation to meet their recommended daily intake.

“The recommended range for protein needs varies depending on a person’s age, activity level, and nutrition goals (ie, gaining muscles, losing weight), but it can range from 0.8-2g per kilogram [of body weight] for most adults,” Chow said.

“While most people can consume enough protein through food alone, some people may benefit from protein supplementation for several reasons.”

  • Athletes who require more protein to repair or build muscle mass.
  • Vegetarians who may have a hard time getting their protein needs from plant-based options.
  • People who are trying to lose weight by getting enough protein to manage their hunger levels.
  • Older adults who may experience decreased appetite and want to prevent muscle deterioration.
  • People needing protein to support recovery and repair (e.g., postsurgery and cancer) may require more protein in easier ways than whole foods alone.

O’Grady said that protein supplements are an easy way for people to meet various dietary protein goals.

If you’re choosing to include them in your diet, be mindful of serving sizes and check that the brand you choose is independently tested for heavy metals.

  • ADA’s struggle below key Fibonacci levels highlights persistent market resistance zones.
  • Rising open interest above $600M reflects sustained trader speculation and confidence.
  • Continuous ADA exchange outflows suggest strong long-term accumulation and staking intent.

Cardano (ADA) continues to face selling pressure after failing to hold above the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement level near $0.6579. The price recently slipped to $0.6427, marking a mild decline of 1.27% over the last session. This move reflects waning momentum following ADA’s earlier rebound from the $0.60 region. Consequently, traders remain cautious as ADA struggles to build enough strength for a sustained breakout.

How Menopause Affects the Gut Microbiome

By |2025-10-21T22:31:52+03:00October 21, 2025|Fitness News, News|0 Comments

Hot flashes and trouble sleeping get most of the attention in midlife, but many women also notice changes in their gut. Bloating shows up out of nowhere, once-reliable bathroom routines go completely off track and foods that used to sit fine now feel heavy.

Is it just getting older? Or is something else going on? Research shows hormone shifts in perimenopause and after menopause can nudge the gut out of balance for some women. “The gut microbiome affects many parts of your health, including your immune system, metabolism and even brain function,” said Charis Chambers, M.D., a board-certified OB-GYN and founder of The Period Doctor. “In short, the gut microbiome is a key player in staying healthy during midlife.”

Learn what changes in your gut microbiome during midlife and simple tips that help you keep it in check.

How perimenopause and menopause can affect the gut microbiome

“Hormone levels, especially estrogen, fall and become more variable, and that can change the kinds of microbes that thrive in your gut,” explained board-certified OB-GYN Kate McLean, M.D., MPH, FACOG. Some small studies have shown less diversity and a gut profile that looks more like men’s, even when researchers consider age and lifestyle.

Scientists use the term estrobolome to describe the group of gut bacteria and enzymes that help process and recycle estrogen. Changes in these bacteria may affect how much estrogen is recycled versus cleared from the body, Chambers said. “This means less estrogen is reabsorbed and available for use in the body, which may further worsen menopause symptoms and increase risks for osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.”

These changes are also linked to signs of heart and metabolic risk in some studies. Daily habits, aging, medicine, and changes in sleep, stress, activity and diet can all influence which microbes thrive in the gut, Chambers explained.

How microbiome changes in menopause can impact your day to day

Lower microbiome diversity and shifts in the types of bacteria in the gut during menopause can lead to a range of symptoms. These symptoms can be different for everyone, but there are several that are common. “Women may notice digestive complaints like bloating, constipation and diarrhea,” said Chambers.

Since your microbiome plays a large role in regulating neurotransmitters that affect your mood and cognition, symptoms can go beyond the gut. You may notice brain fog, low energy, sleep trouble or mood changes, according to McLean.

Keeping a simple symptom log of what you eat, sleep times, movement and stress level next to symptoms can make clinic visits more useful and help you pinpoint what impacts your symptoms.

How to improve your gut microbiome

In order to improve the diversity of your gut microbiome, start with daily habits that support a healthy mix of gut bacteria. Small steps add up.

  • Eat more fiber. Add fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains to most meals, aiming to fill half the plate with plants. Fiber feeds helpful microbes and supports regularity.
  • Choose simple fermented foods you like. Yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi or tempeh can add helpful microbes to your gut. Pick options that fit your taste and budget. A spoonful or two with meals is enough to start.
  • Move most days. Walking, strength training or aerobic exercise like cycling, running, and swimming support digestion and overall health, even in short bouts. Moderate, consistent exercise supports a healthy gut microbiome. But don’t overdo it — prolonged high-intensity exercise can actually get your microbiome out of whack.
  • Protect sleep and lower stress. Try to get to bed and wake up at the same time each day. A short wind-down, and simple stress tools like breathing or stretching can help. Sleep and stress can both affect how your gut feels.
  • Be careful with alcohol. Lowering your alcohol intake supports gut health (among other things). That’s because drinking alcohol throws off the balance of bacteria in your gut microbiome. It can also contribute to leaky gut because your gut microbiome sometimes begins to eat away at the lining of your gut when it gets out of balance. Your gut microbiome also creates metabolites when it’s processing alcohol — and some of those metabolites are toxic.
  • Consider probiotics or prebiotics with care. Food-first fiber is a good starting point. Some people find supplements helpful, but results vary. If you want to try one, look for human-studied strains, a clear CFU amount and quality testing. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider (HCP) if you are immunocompromised or on certain medicines. “[Probiotics and prebiotics] can help some people, but the benefit depends on the product and the person,” McLean said.
  • Know where hormone therapy fits. Menopausal hormone therapy is used to treat symptoms like hot flashes and sleep problems, and scientists are still studying how it might affect the gut. “From a gut standpoint, restoring estrogen can indirectly influence the microbiome and some symptoms, but hormone therapy is a medical decision based on overall risks and benefits, so discuss it with your provider,” McLean said.
  • One simple step to try this week. “Add one extra serving of fiber-rich food every day and drink a little more water,” McLean said. “It is simple, low-cost and supports a healthier gut right away.”

Menopause care looks different for everyone

Access and cost can impact your options in midlife. Menopause care and use of hormone therapy differ by race, ethnicity, income and insurance. These gaps can increase symptom burden and limit treatment choices for many people. Many families also face food insecurity, which makes it harder to buy fiber-rich foods or fermented options on a regular basis.

Practical tips to make eating a gut microbiome-friendly diet:

  • Choose low-cost sources of fiber and protein like beans, lentils, oats, brown rice, frozen veggies, canned fish — choose store brands and bulk bins when possible.
  • Try low-cost fermented foods like plain yogurt, store-brand kefir, jarred sauerkraut.
  • If supplements are out of budget, focus on whole food-based fiber first and skip packaged fiber-added foods that promise quick fixes.
  • Look for community resources like WIC and SNAP benefits, food co-ops, community fridges and sliding-scale clinics.
  • If you don’t have access to a menopause-trained clinician, search directories from major societies and telehealth options that accept your insurance.

When to call a healthcare provider

Seek care if any of the following symptoms show up or don’t improve with simple steps:

  • New or heavy vaginal bleeding, new or foul-smelling discharge, or severe pelvic pain.
  • Severe belly pain, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss, or persistent vomiting.
  • Gut symptoms that keep you from daily activities or don’t improve after a few weeks of basic changes.

Talk with your HCP about the full range of treatments for symptom relief, including menopausal hormone therapy when appropriate.

It’s a myth that menopause automatically wrecks your gut and there’s nothing you can do,” McLean said. “The gut is adaptable, and diet, movement, sleep and targeted care can meaningfully improve gut health at any age.
