H-Tea-O, Southern-style iced teas and more, opening in Tallahassee

“Where is the Southern tea store?” an Amarillo, Texas, native asked as soon as she moved to Tallahassee in 2020.

Little did the Leon County Schools teacher know, she’d provide the answer to her own question.

Cherri and her husband, John Johnson, are helping to bring Southern-style freshly brewed teas to Capital Circle Northeast, with the Texas-based chain, H-Tea-O, later this month. This will be the chain’s third Florida location with shops in Fish Hawk and Lakeland.

“We realized that was missing in this market, so we were super excited to bring it here and introduce Tallahassee to the southern tea that H-Tea-O has,” Cherri Johnson said.

Founded in 2009, the chain offers over 25 specialty sweet and unsweet iced teas. Fresh fruit flavors include its specialty strawberry passion, sweet coconut, watermelon and wild raspberry brews. Johnson said one of her favorites is the Georgia Peach brew made with fresh peaches and black tea.

There’s some funky flavors as well like Texas Chai made with allspice berry, black tea leaves, cinnamon bark, cloves flower buds, pure cane sugar and turmeric root. The store also offers a specialty “Mix of the Month.”
