Victim suffered minor injuries after being struck from behind while taking bathroom break

WESTLOCK — A motorist who stopped for a bathroom break in the wrong place at the wrong time was the victim of a carjacking in the Dapp area on the evening of May 20.

Cpl. Brad Schram of the Westlock RCMP said that between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., a man stopped at the parking lot of the Dapp Corner Store north of Westlock to relieve himself.

Schram said an unknown suspect came up behind the motorist and struck him before hopping into the truck, which still had the keys in the ignition.

“The victim attempted to stop the carjacker and did get dragged a little ways down the road, receiving minor injuries,” said Schram.

On Facebook, a relative of the victim reported that he suffered a concussion and some road rash but was otherwise OK.

Schram said the suspect was apparently driving a stolen vehicle which broke down near the store. Seeing an opportunity, the suspect then stole the other motorist’s truck, which has not been recovered.

The RCMP do not have a description of the suspect. However, if anyone has information relating to the stolen truck — a blue 2007 Chevrolet Silverado — they should reach out to the Westlock RCMP.

Schram added that if anyone sees the stolen truck, they should not attempt to approach the suspect, who should be considered dangerous. Instead, they should call 9-1-1 and note the location of the vehicle, as well as the direction it is heading.
