Collagen peptide composition shows promise in managing glucose spikes

Rousselot’s researchers focused on blood glucose control — exploring whether a specific collagen peptide composition could naturally mitigate the causes of glucose spikes. The secretion of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is one of the body’s natural methods for maintaining balanced blood sugar levels.1 Over the course of in vitro bioactivity tests, Nextida GC demonstrated its capacity to bind with GLP-1 receptors and stimulate increased hormone production — an indicative sign of an enhanced incretin effect.

After undergoing preclinical testing with significant results, a first proof of concept study was established with a group of 16 healthy participants, including those with normoglycemia as well as pre-diabetic individuals. Results showed that both a 5- and 10-gram dose of Nextida GC successfully lowered glucose spikes when taken orally 30 minutes before a meal, significantly reducing the amount of glucose present in the blood by 42% on average after a meal.2
