$100K breakout or drop to $90K ahead of Microsoft’s BTC investment vote?

By |2024-12-03T22:08:35+02:00December 3, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Bitcoin price today: $95,300

  • Bitcoin price retraces to $95,000 on Monday after recovering from last week’s pullback.
  • MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor explained a strategic approach to Bitcoin on Sunday, highlighting its significance as the next technological wave that Microsoft must address.
  • Bitcoin US spot ETF recorded a mild outflow of $136.5 million last week, while stablecoin reserves on Binance reached a new all-time high.

Bitcoin (BTC) trades slightly lower and hovers below $95,500 on Monday after last week’s minor correction. MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor emphasized on Sunday the strategic importance of Bitcoin, describing it as a pivotal technological wave that companies like Microsoft must embrace.

Traders should be cautious as Bitcoin Spot Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) recorded a mild outflow of over $136 million last week. Still, some optimism could be seen for Bitcoin as stablecoin reserves on Binance reach a new all-time high.

Bitcoin expects volatility ahead of Microsoft shareholders’ December 10 vote on BTC proposal

Bitcoin price corrected with a slight decline of 0.73% last week, making a low of $90,791 in the first half but recovering during the second half to close at $97,185. As of this week, Bitcoin could recover its recent decline and rally towards its $100K mark, driven by Saylor’s BTC investment strategy presentation to Microsoft.

On Sunday, the co-founder of MicroStrategy, a company that provides business intelligence, mobile software, and cloud-based services, made the point during a pitch to Microsoft’s board on why the tech giant should buy Bitcoin.

“Microsoft can’t afford to miss the next technology wave, and Bitcoin is that wave,” Saylor said.

Moreover, QCP’s Monday report says, “Microsoft’s shareholders are scheduled to vote on a proposal to add BTC to its balance sheet on December 10. Could this be the catalyst BTC needs to break 100k before year end?”

The report continued, “Microsoft’s top shareholders such as Vanguard, BlackRock and Fidelity already have exposure to crypto with investments in MSTR, Coinbase and other crypto firms. One could argue that they already possess sufficient exposure. On the other hand if the proposal passes, it would be bullish not only for BTC but also for their other investments.”

Looking down into Bitcoin’s institutional flows indicates a mild fall in demand last week. According to Coinglass ETF data, US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced a total net outflow of $136.5 million last week, compared to a $3.34 billion inflow the previous week. If this outflow trend persists or accelerates, Bitcoin could decline further in the coming days.

Despite a slight fall in institutional demand, CryptoQuant Stablecoin Reserves (ERC-20) data indicates a bullish outlook for Bitcoin and the overall crypto market. The data shows it hit an all-time high of around $28 billion on Monday on Binance. As the largest crypto exchange, Binance serves as a liquidity hub, attracting traders and institutions for stablecoin transactions, storage and trading. Rising reserves indicate renewed confidence, increased trading activity, and staking.

Bitcoin Price Forecast: Rise to $100K or fall to $90K?

Bitcoin price experienced a correction last week, dropping to $90,791 before recovering to $97,000 by Friday and consolidating during the weekend. As of Monday, it trades slightly below $95,500.

If BTC faces a pullback, it could extend the correction to retest its $90,000 support level.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the daily chart reads at 61, rejected for its overbought level of 70 and points downwards, indicating a weak bullish momentum. Moreover, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator also showed a bearish crossover on November 26, signaling sell signals. It shows rising red histogram bars below the neutral line zero, also suggesting that Bitcoin’s price could experience downward momentum.

However, If BTC continues its upward momentum, it could rally to reach its all-time high (ATH) level of $99,588.

Bitcoin, altcoins, stablecoins FAQs

Bitcoin is the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, a virtual currency designed to serve as money. This form of payment cannot be controlled by any one person, group, or entity, which eliminates the need for third-party participation during financial transactions.

Altcoins are any cryptocurrency apart from Bitcoin, but some also regard Ethereum as a non-altcoin because it is from these two cryptocurrencies that forking happens. If this is true, then Litecoin is the first altcoin, forked from the Bitcoin protocol and, therefore, an “improved” version of it.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to have a stable price, with their value backed by a reserve of the asset it represents. To achieve this, the value of any one stablecoin is pegged to a commodity or financial instrument, such as the US Dollar (USD), with its supply regulated by an algorithm or demand. The main goal of stablecoins is to provide an on/off-ramp for investors willing to trade and invest in cryptocurrencies. Stablecoins also allow investors to store value since cryptocurrencies, in general, are subject to volatility.

Bitcoin dominance is the ratio of Bitcoin’s market capitalization to the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies combined. It provides a clear picture of Bitcoin’s interest among investors. A high BTC dominance typically happens before and during a bull run, in which investors resort to investing in relatively stable and high market capitalization cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. A drop in BTC dominance usually means that investors are moving their capital and/or profits to altcoins in a quest for higher returns, which usually triggers an explosion of altcoin rallies.

Cardano DeFi TVL nears record $700 million, ADA skyrockets 20%

By |2024-12-03T21:47:07+02:00December 3, 2024|News, NFT News|0 Comments

Cardano DeFi TVL nears record 0 million, ADA skyrockets 20%

Cardano’s DeFi ecosystem is hitting new heights, with its total value locked (TVL) nearing an all-time high of $700 million.

DeFillama data shows that the blockchain network is riding the current bullish market sentiment by adding over $400 million to reach $680 million as of press time. This number marks a massive turnaround for the blockchain network, which saw its TVL drop to as low as around $50 million in November 2022 following FTX’s shock collapse.

TVL is often seen as a barometer for the health and trust of a DeFi ecosystem. The metric reflects a blockchain network’s growing appeal in the crypto space, with an increase signaling a surge in investor’s confidence in the platform.

In addition to its TVL growth, Cardano’s decentralized exchanges (DEXs) reported a trading volume of $22.35 million in the past day, the highest since December 2023. According to DeFillama data, weekly DEX trading volume also hit $117.32 million, marking the best performance since May 2023.

Speaking on these numbers, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said they represent the dawn of DeFi activity on the blockchain network while highlighting the ecosystem’s progress and growing adoption.

ADA price rally

The improved DeFi activities come as Cardano’s ADA token has emerged as a top performer during the current market uptrend.

Over the past week, the crypto asset has gained more than 20%, reaching a peak of $1.21. According to CryptoSlate data, this is ADA’s highest price level since 2022.

This momentum has propelled Cardano’s market capitalization to over $40 billion, making it the ninth-largest digital asset globally. The rally aligns with broader bullish market conditions and several ecosystem advancements.

Market observers noted that recent developments — including the implementation of Zero-Knowledge (ZK) technology and the transition towards decentralized governance — have boosted Cardano’s prospects.

According to them, these innovations have provided a strong foundation for sustained growth and solidified the network’s position as a critical player in the crypto space.

GBP/USD Forecast Today – 03/12: Pound Consolidates (Chart)

By |2024-12-03T20:13:01+02:00December 3, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • In my daily analysis of the GBP/USD currency pair, the first thing that comes to mind is that the British pound has taken it on the chin.
  • At this point, it looks like we have seen a lot of resistance near the 1.2750 level. If we can break above there, it would obviously change things but right now it looks like it’s a massive brick wall.
  • Because of this, I’ll be paying close attention to the 1.2750 level for any significant change.

Consolidation

The consolidation has been somewhat obvious between the 1.25 level on the bottom, and the 1.2750 level on the top. The size of the candlestick on Monday is rather ugly, and that does suggest that a lot of people will be running to the US dollar again. Quite frankly, the downtrend has been formally ensconced, so at this point in time I don’t see any reason to think that the trend will change easily. However, like I said, if we were to break above the 1.2750 level, then I would have to reconsider some things.

If we were to break down below the 1.25 level, then it opens up the possibility of a significant drop down to the 1.23 level. Interest rates continue to be an issue for the United States, despite the fact that a lot of market participants believe that the Federal Reserve is going to be cutting interest rates by 25 basis points during the month of December. Because of this, the market is likely to be very noisy, but I do think that eventually we will have to come to some type of conclusion. The conclusion could be in either direction, but as I think we have seen recently, it’s very difficult for this market to break out to the upside. Because of this, the market is likely to continue to see a lot of volatility, but sooner or later, we could see a rather large move.

5 Best Teas to Support Your Immune System

By |2024-12-03T20:10:38+02:00December 3, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

There’s nothing cozier than curling up with a blanket and a hot cup of tea, especially when you’re feeling under the weather. But what if drinking tea could also help keep pesky sniffles at bay?

Your body is constantly battling free radicals, which are by-products of metabolism and exercise. Under normal circumstances, your body can handle these free radicals, but eating habits, smoking and certain environmental factors may take a toll on your immune system. Over time, these free radicals can cause oxidative stress that damages your cells, making them less efficient, thereby increasing your risk for chronic diseases, illness and premature aging.

Fortunately, antioxidants in tea, specifically polyphenols, are potent plant compounds that can help prevent or delay the oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Getting plenty of antioxidants can help support a healthy immune system, too. However, the types and concentrations of antioxidants in tea vary depending on the tea variety and how the tea is cultivated and processed.

We rounded up the best types of teas to support your immune system, as well as our favorite teas within each category. From fruity, floral hibiscus to earthy matcha, we tested 15 teas from well-known brands to determine the best options for every palate. Here are our top five teas to help keep your immune system at its best.

Our Top Picks

PHOTO: Amazon

What we like: This smooth-tasting matcha powder is certified organic and independently tested for purity.

What to know: It isn’t cheap, and some may find the flavor a bit too earthy.

Matcha is a type of green tea that’s made by grinding tea leaves into a fine powder. In addition to its vibrant green color, matcha stands out from other teas for its rich antioxidant content.

Unlike green tea, plants used for matcha are grown away from sunlight for several weeks before harvest, resulting in higher amounts of caffeine, amino acids and antioxidants. Specifically, matcha is high in catechins, a type of polyphenol that may help reduce inflammation and protect against chronic diseases.

Out of all the teas on our list, matcha is the most versatile. You can enjoy it hot or cold, topped with foamed milk for a latte, or added to smoothies or baked goods.

Our favorite is Encha Organic Matcha Green Tea, an organic matcha powder. It has a smooth, robust flavor with sweet and earthy notes.

We also like that independent labs test it to ensure it’s free from pesticides, toxic metals and radiation.

For the price, you may be surprised by how small the pouch is. However, because you only need 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per cup, you’ll get 30 to 60 servings per package.

Form: Powder | Caffeine: 60 mg | Steep time: N/A | Ingredients: Pure matcha green tea powder

The Republic of Tea Emperor’s 100% White Tea

PHOTO: Amazon

What we like: This 100% white tea has a delicate, sweet flavor that we found to be particularly relaxing.

What to know: The flavor might be too mild for some.

If you want to keep your caffeine consumption on the lower end, then this white tea is a good alternative.

It’s also the least processed among true tea varieties; it’s sun-dried for a short period after harvest to minimize oxidation, as oxidation can darken the color and flavor of the tea leaves. Since it is minimally processed, its antioxidant compounds, such as catechins, are highly retained. In fact, compared to other types of tea, white tea is thought to be one of the highest in antioxidants.

This tea from The Republic of Tea features authentic 100% white tea grown in Fujian Province, a mountainous region of China known for high-quality tea. According to the company, the tea leaves are hand-plucked just two days of the year and are known for their delicate, subtly sweet flavor.

The tea has a fresh, mild finish that’s perfect for sipping while relaxing and trying to clear your head. However, if you prefer your white tea to have a little more oomph, the company offers fruit-forward varieties that are of similar quality but a bit more flavorful.

Form: Tea bags | Caffeine: 15 to 20 mg | Steep time: 1 minute | Ingredients: 100% white tea

The Republic of Tea Goji Berry Green Superfruit Tea

PHOTO: Amazon

What we like: It has a good balance of sweet and tart and contains additional ingredients with antioxidant benefits.

What to know: It isn’t ideal if you’re looking for a pure goji berry tea.

Also known as wolfberries, goji berries are tiny red berries with medicinal and antioxidant properties that may improve immunity and protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. When brewed as a tea, they are particularly rich in polyphenols.

You can make your goji berry tea by steeping 1 to 2 non-heaping teaspoons of dried goji berries in hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. However, if you prefer the convenience of a store-bought tea bag, I recommend Goji Berry Green from The Republic of Tea.

In addition to goji berry, this fruit-forward tea includes three other antioxidant powerhouses: hibiscus, elderberries and green tea. The tea itself has a strong fruity aroma with a subtle sweetness that keeps it from being overly tangy.

Each rounded tin contains 50 unbleached tea bags. You can also purchase this tea in bulk on the company’s website, which saves you a few cents per serving.

Form: Tea bags | Caffeine: 25 mg | Steep time: 1 to 3 minutes | Ingredients: Organic green tea, organic hibiscus, natural flavor, organic elderberries, organic goji juice

Numi Organic Hibiscus

PHOTO: Amazon

What we like: This organic tea features warming spices and floral botanicals to help balance out the tartness of the hibiscus.

What to know: It has a long steep time and isn’t as fruity as other hibiscus teas.

Hibiscus plants are known for their deep red flowers and high antioxidant content, especially anthocyanins. Anthocyanins may protect cells, tissues and organs by strengthening the cell membranes, making them less porous and vulnerable to free radicals. While more research is needed, hibiscus tea specifically may help reduce cellular inflammation and reduce your risk of certain chronic diseases, like Alzheimer’s and heart disease.

Numi is an environmentally conscious company that prides itself on using pure, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Its Hibiscus Tea combines Fair Trade hibiscus with a variety of organic roots, herbs, spices and flowers for a flavorful cup that’s free from artificial flavors or fragrances. Unlike pure hibiscus tea, which is quite tart, Numi Hibiscus provides a tangy initial flavor with a smooth, lightly spiced finish.

Each box of the company’s hibiscus tea contains 16 compostable, unbleached tea bags with cotton tea strings.

Just keep in mind that this tea contains licorice root. While safe in small amounts, licorice root may pose a safety risk in people with low blood pressure, kidney disease or heart disease.

Form: Tea bags | Caffeine: 0 mg | Steep time: 8 to 10 minutes | Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified organic hibiscus, organic rose petal, organic licorice, organic elderflower, organic limeflower, organic cloves, organic cinnamon, organic damiana, organic lavender, organic chamomile

Rishi Tea Turmeric Ginger Herbal Tea | Immune Support, USDA Certified Organic, Caffeine-Free, Ayurvedic, Energy-Boosting, Citrus Flavors for Taste | 15 Sachet Bags, 1.75 oz (Pack of 1)

PHOTO: Amazon

What we like: This organic tea has a sweet, citrus flavor with warming notes of ginger.

What to know: It’s the most expensive turmeric tea we tested.

Turmeric is a pungent, earthy spice that’s known for its active ingredient, curcumin, which gives it its signature orange-yellow color. Curcumin is believed to support the immune system—in part by reducing inflammation. When taken as a supplement, it has been shown to have antiviral and antimicrobial properties, which may make it helpful for cold and flu symptoms.

That being said, turmeric has traditionally been added to tea for its health benefits, but research confirming its benefits as a tea is lacking.

I’ve tested a handful of turmeric teas over the years, and by far my favorite is Rishi Tea Turmeric Ginger. While you can still taste notes of turmeric, the tea isn’t overly bitter or earthy. Instead, it has a lovely warmth from the ginger and a smooth, slightly sweet finish from the addition of orange and lemon essential oils.

This tea is certified organic and, as with all Rishi Tea products, its ingredients are sourced through direct partnerships with farmers. While this tea is on the pricier side, I think its quality and rich flavor make it worth the cost.

As with the tea above, Rishi Tea Turmeric Ginger contains licorice root, which can affect potassium and blood pressure levels. For this reason, it may not be appropriate for people with heart disease, kidney disease or low blood pressure.

Form: Tea bags | Caffeine: 0 mg | Steep time: 5 minutes | Ingredients: Organic ginger root, organic turmeric root, organic licorice root, organic lemongrass, organic orange peel, organic essential oils of orange and lemon

Choosing a Tea

Look at the Ingredient List

Nearly all teas naturally contain antioxidants. However, as the list above shows, some types of tea are better sources of antioxidants, and other immune-boosting compounds, than others. In general, matcha, white and herbal teas like goji berry and hibiscus are your best bets.

Consider the Caffeine Content

Different types of tea vary in their caffeine content, with black and matcha teas typically being higher in caffeine and white and green tea being lower. While there are some exceptions, herbal and Rooibos tea tend to be naturally caffeine-free.

Keep in mind that how you brew your tea also affects the caffeine content. Using hotter water and a longer steeping time will extract more caffeine from the tea leaves.

Research the Brand

As with any product, it’s important to choose a reputable brand that follows good manufacturing practices. If sustainability is important, look for brands that use compostable, recyclable or reusable materials. Some companies also distinguish themselves by offering organic or Fair Trade-certified ingredients.

Factor in the Cost

There are teas to fit virtually any budget. While researching this article, I came across options ranging from as low as $4 to more than $35 per package. Grocery stores typically offer more affordable options, while specialty tea shops tend to be more expensive. Generally speaking, more expensive teas contain higher-quality ingredients. Still, there are plenty of good options at nearly any price point.

Ask About Safety Considerations

Tea is generally considered safe for healthy adults.

However, some teas contain herbs and other compounds that may not be safe or appropriate for certain populations. For example, many herbal teas contain ingredients that may pose negative side effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Similarly, many herbs have the potential to interact with prescription medications or cause unwanted effects in people with certain medical conditions. If you’re unsure of whether a tea is safe for you to drink, it’s best to talk with your doctor before trying it.

Our Search for the Best Teas to Support Immunity

To find the best teas to support your immune system, we researched which types of teas are known to be highest in antioxidants and other immune-boosting compounds, like vitamin A and L-theanine. We then taste-tested three to five of the highest-rated teas in each category, taking note of their ingredients, price, flavor and aroma.

Editor’s Note

A note on safety: Many of these teas contain ingredients that may not be safe or appropriate for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking certain medications. Always talk with a trusted healthcare provider before drinking herbal teas.

Common Questions

Is tea good for your immune system?

While some types of teas have more benefits than others, in general, tea is thought to be good for your immune system thanks to its high antioxidant content. Many teas are also rich in L-theanine, an amino acid that may help protect against the common cold and flu. L-theanine may also help prevent the immune system suppression that occurs naturally after strenuous exercise. And green, black and oolong teas contain catechins, which research has shown may help prevent the flu.

Can It Catch Up to XRP?

By |2024-12-03T20:07:58+02:00December 3, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Dogecoin’s price has surged 180% as whales buy in, and technical indicators point to more growth. Could DOGE be gearing up for a major rally?

Dogecoin (DOGE) is once again grabbing attention in the crypto world. Some believe it is falling behind major competitors like XRP and ADA. Others argue it may be gearing up for a major price surge. With whales buying more DOGE and technical charts showing positive signals, the Dogecoin price could climb much higher soon. Let’s dive into the latest updates and how they may shape the future of the DOGE coin.

Whale Activity Suggests Strong Market Confidence

Recently, large holders known as whales purchased an additional 160 million DOGE. This significant buying activity shows that big players have confidence in the Dogecoin stock. When whales make such moves, it often indicates that a price increase could follow. Over the past 30 days, the Dogecoin price has already risen by 180.5%, reaching $0.4225 today. Its market cap has grown to $62.1 billion, making it one of the most popular cryptocurrencies right now.

Technical analysis supports these bullish signals. The 10-day moving average of the DOGE price is $0.4149, which is much higher than the 50-day average of $0.2691. This trend confirms that the market momentum for DOGE is positive. Additionally, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 65.8, indicating there is still room for DOGE to grow before becoming overbought.

Is Dogecoin Ready for a 2,400% Rally?

Some analysts, like Ali Martinez, suggest that DOGE coin could experience a 2,400% price rally against Bitcoin. This prediction is based on technical charts showing the potential for a breakout. Currently, the DOGE price faces resistance at $0.5536, $0.6859, and $1.024. Breaking these resistance levels could allow DOGE to reach new highs, possibly surpassing its all-time high (ATH) of $0.7316.

Can It Catch Up to XRP?

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) is another important signal. At 0.0438, it shows that bullish momentum is building. If this trend continues, the Dogecoin stock could reach the long-anticipated $1 level. This would be a significant milestone, especially for new crypto enthusiasts.

New Technology Could Boost Dogecoin’s Future

Dogecoin’s development team is working on upgrades to make the cryptocurrency faster and more efficient. These updates aim to improve DOGE’s performance in processing transactions. If successful, the changes could make DOGE coin a stronger competitor to XRP and ADA. These improvements will attract more users and increase the demand for the Dogecoin stock.

Compared to XRP and ADA, Dogecoin has often been criticized for being less advanced. However, these technological improvements could narrow the gap. By combining its strong community support with better technology, the Dogecoin price may see long-term growth.

Can DOGE Catch Up to XRP and ADA?

While some view Dogecoin as lagging behind XRP and ADA, the data suggests otherwise. Whale accumulation, rising market momentum, and upcoming upgrades all point to a brighter future for DOGE. Breaking resistance at $0.5536 and $0.6859 is critical for its price growth. If these levels are cleared, the DOGE price could rise above $1 and beyond.

Can DOGE Catch Up to XRP and ADA?

The Facts About Homemade Skincare Products

By |2024-12-03T19:47:09+02:00December 3, 2024|Fitness News, News|0 Comments

Apple pie. Chocolate chip cookies. Spaghetti sauce. All of these things become instantly more attractive when you add the word “homemade.”

But what about face lotion, masks and toners? Homemade skincare products have been gaining popularity online as less expensive and more natural alternatives to store-bought creams. A quick search for DIY skincare turns up hundreds of different recipes and videos on how to mix your own moisturizers, serums and even sunscreen.

But when it comes to your skin — your body’s biggest organ — should you make your own mixtures?

Read: Holiday Skincare & Beauty Tips >>

Sanitary and safety concerns

By definition, homemade means made at home. And we know your house is clean, but it’s not as product-worthy as you may think. “Skincare products are made in facilities that have certain standards, and products have to be prepared in a certain way to limit exposure to pathogens like bacteria,” said Lauren Fine, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist.

Pretty much everything in a home setup — mixing tools, bottles, containers, etc. — can be breeding grounds for fungi and other microorganisms. The environment can be a problem, too, as mold and bacteria thrive around water in places like the bathroom where most skincare products are stored.

Some homemade recipes recommend adding things like essential oils as a way to stop mold and bacteria. But there can be different pathogens (organisms that cause disease) growing that you can’t see or smell. And that can lead to irritation, infection and even damage your skin.

Fine noted that the ingredients themselves can spoil and become ineffective since you can’t gauge the shelf life of something that hasn’t been researched or tested in clinical trials. “There’s just a lot of room for error, and it could be very harmful,” Fine said.

Natural isn’t necessarily better

iStock.com/OksanaKiian

Going DIY with ingredients that aren’t made in a lab and sourced from plants sounds like a good idea. But natural ingredients can have adverse effects too. For example, some plants have substances that can be toxic or allergenic. “One thing that’s hugely important that people don’t realize is that natural doesn’t mean it’s safe,” Fine said. “A lot of people have allergies or contact dermatitis from ingredients like essential oils.”

One recent study found that almost all the commercial lotions, soaps and fragrances marketed as “all natural” had ingredients that could trigger contact dermatitis, skin irritation that comes from being in contact with an irritant.

Ingredients bought online or in the grocery store may be natural, but you still don’t have any way of knowing if they’re effective or safe without the proper testing to back it up. And things like essential oils aren’t regulated by the FDA, so you could also get a concentration that is higher or lower than advertised and that may have a negative impact on your skin. Or your at-home mix may have no impact at all.

Don’t DIY sunscreen

One of the hottest DIY skincare trends making the rounds on social media involves making your own sunscreen. The mixtures typically include zinc oxide powder as the active ingredient. And while zinc-based sunscreens are an option and a good option if you want to avoid sunscreen with chemicals, Fine said DIY recipes for sunscreen are nothing to mess with.

“Homemade sunscreen is definitely a no,” she said.

Read: 10 Things You Must Know to Enjoy the Sun Safely >>

For one, the active ingredients in commercial sunscreen have been tested and verified and the product label tells you how much SPF protection you’re getting.

If you DIY your sunscreen, you’re not guaranteed any protection because it hasn’t been tested or verified.

Store-bought sunscreen also includes ingredients that keep the active ingredients working (most sunscreens last for three years). But you can’t be sure how long a homemade blend with zinc oxide will work — if it works at all — because there’s no way to know the shelf life.

Fine said to forget homemade sunscreen and stick to the store-bought options with the SPF clearly printed on the label so you know you’re protected. “You can DIY for home improvement but when we’re talking about your skin I wouldn’t recommend it.”

FYI on the DIY: Better to skip this one

Although it’s tempting to try to save some cash and make your own skincare products and sunscreen, it’s best to save the homemade recipes for recreating your grandma’s apple pie.

XAU/USD keeps struggling for direction

By |2024-12-03T19:25:51+02:00December 3, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

XAU/USD Current price: $2,647.80

  • Geopolitical tensions in South Korea and France undermined the market’s mood.
  • The US reported higher-than-anticipated job openings in October, according to the JOLTS report.
  • XAU/USD is neutral-to-bearish in the near term, a directional breakout not yet in sight.

The US Dollar (USD) gained upward traction during American trading hours after spending the first half of the day on the back foot amid a better market mood. XAU/USD retreats from an intraday high of $2,655.50 but retains the $2640 mark at the time of writing, as the USD benefits from a deteriorated market mood.

The market sentiment deteriorated following the release of the United States (US) Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) Job Openings report, showing the number of openings in the last business day of October stood at 7.74 million, according to the report released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The reading was higher than the 7.37 million openings in September and beat the market expectation of 7.48 million.

Fresh geopolitical tensions in Asia also undermine the mood. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law. The army closed the Parliament while representatives voted to block the president’s declaration. The SK Won plunged vs the USD, providing the latter with fresh impetus. News coming from France are no better. The minority government seems to be on the brink of collapse, as opposition lawmakers from the left and the far right vowed to topple Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s Cabinet, according to AP news.

Meanwhile, US indexes trade in the red. Asian and European equities advanced, limiting USD strength, but Wall Street could not follow the lead. Even further, US government bond yields are back on the rise, underpinning the American currency.

Other than that, investors await more US employment-related data scheduled throughout the week. The November ADP report on private job creation is expected to show that 150K new positions were created in the sector on Wednesday. The most relevant figures will be out on Friday when the US will release the Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report.

XAU/USD short-term technical outlook

From a technical point of view, the daily chart for XAU/USD shows the pair is pretty much unchanged from its opening and still confined to familiar levels. The Momentum indicator aims higher above its 100 level, but the Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicator heads nowhere at around 48. At the same time, the XAU/USD pair barely holds above a bearish 20 Simple Moving Average (SMA) while the 100 and 200 SMAs keep advancing below the current level, losing their former strength but still aiming north.

In the near term, and according to the 4-hour chart, XAU/USD offers a neutral-to-bearish stance. The pair keeps hovering around a directionless 20 SMA while midway between also flat 100 and 200 SMAs. Finally, technical indicators turned marginally lower right below their midlines, lacking strength enough to confirm another leg lower.

Support levels: 2,626.70 2,611.35 2,598.70

Resistance levels:  2,655.50 2,671.55 2,688.65

USD/JPY Forecast Today 03/12: Struggles Below 150 (Video)

By |2024-12-03T18:11:57+02:00December 3, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • The US dollar initially did try to recover against the Japanese yen during the trading session on Monday, but a lower than anticipated manufacturing PMI number may have been a bit of a problem.
  • While that has seen the US dollar rocket higher against other currencies, I think this is more or less a situation where traders are starting to focus on whether or not the Federal will cut rates in December, and that has a major influence on this pair.

In general, this is a situation where traders continue to see concerns about the interest rate differential narrowing. Now, the bond market had a lot to say about that recently, but it looks like the bond market’s giving that up a little bit. As we are below the 150 yen level, now I think things are getting really interesting.

Is the Selling Done?

Whether or not we are done selling off remains to be seen, but you can still make an argument for an uptrend. This most recent swing high though, that could be an ominous sign. I suspect at this point, you’re probably better off waiting for some type of bounce to get involved. It just has the feel of a falling knife type of situation.

That doesn’t mean that the US dollar itself is going to do poorly, and I just think that in the realm of safety bid, US dollar is right up there, but it’s not the Japanese yen. If we can turn around and recapture the 50-day EMA close to the 151.33 yen level, then I think you start to look in the other direction again. I’m not necessarily looking to short this USD/JPY pair, I guess what I’m saying is, I’m just not looking to get long of it at this point in time, although over the longer-term, I will be looking to take advantage of the interest rate swap at the end of each day.

Seaweed supplements reduce methane in grazing cattle

By |2024-12-03T18:09:04+02:00December 3, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Sustainability in cattle farming has taken a promising step forward. Researchers discovered that feeding a seaweed supplement to grazing beef cattle can reduce methane emissions by nearly 40%.

This study demonstrates that environmental benefits can align with cattle health and productivity.

Professor Ermias Kebreab, a researcher at the University of California (UC), Davis, led the team behind this study. Earlier findings showed that seaweed could cut methane emissions by 82% in feedlot cattle and over 50% in dairy cows.

Understanding cattle grazing

Cattle grazing is an important part of farming around the world. It makes use of land that can’t be used for crops, turning grass into food and other useful products.

Grazing also helps keep grasslands healthy, supports wildlife, and reduces the risk of wildfires.

The management of grazing cattle varies significantly based on geography, climate, and available resources.

In arid regions, rotational grazing helps preserve soil quality and ensures pasture regeneration. In wetter areas, continuous grazing may be possible due to faster grass regrowth. Proper grazing techniques also minimize soil compaction and erosion, contributing to long-term land health.

Circular farming practices

Additionally, grazing systems often integrate with other agricultural practices. For instance, cattle can graze on crop residues post-harvest, reducing waste and enriching the soil with organic matter.

This integration supports circular farming approaches, which enhance sustainability and resource efficiency.

Despite its benefits, cattle grazing must be carefully managed to avoid overgrazing, which can deplete vegetation, increase soil erosion, and reduce water retention capacity.

Methane emissions in cattle

Livestock contribute 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Methane, primarily released by cattle through burping, constitutes the largest share.

Grazing cattle, that consume more fiber from grass, produce more methane compared to feedlot cattle or dairy cows. The United States alone is supports 9 million dairy cows and over 64 million beef cattle, making the mitigation of methane production crucial.

“Beef cattle spend only about three months in feedlots and most of their lives grazing on pasture,” explained Professor Kebreab.

“We need to make this seaweed additive or any feed additive more accessible to grazing cattle to ensure sustainable farming while meeting global meat demand.”

Challenges in reducing methane emissions

Lowering methane emissions in grazing cattle presents unique difficulties. Unlike feedlot or dairy cows, grazing cattle roam far from ranches for extended periods, which makes daily supplementation complicated.

However, ranchers often provide dietary supplements during winter or when grass availability declines. This study aimed to overcome these logistical barriers.

The researchers conducted a 10-week experiment on a Montana ranch, dividing 24 beef steers into two groups.

One group received the seaweed supplement in pellet form, while the other did not. Despite voluntary intake, emissions dropped by nearly 40% in the supplemented group.

Professor Kebreab noted that most previous research took place in controlled settings. Fewer than half of these methods are effective for grazing cattle. This study represents a significant step in addressing the challenges unique to pasture-based systems.

How seaweed reduces methane in cattle

Seaweed supplements reduce methane emissions by interfering with the gut microbes responsible for producing methane. The researchers suggest delivery mechanisms like lick blocks to make supplementation more practical for ranchers.

“This method paves the way to make a seaweed supplement easily available to grazing animals,” said Professor Kebreab.

Lick blocks could simplify the process, ensuring consistent access for cattle even in remote grazing areas.

Environmental and social benefits

Pastoral farming sustains millions of people globally, often in regions most vulnerable to climate change.

This study on reducing methane emissions in beef cattle offers a scalable solution to improve environmental sustainability while supporting livelihoods. By reducing emissions, cattle grazing could contribute positively to global efforts against climate change.

Professor Alison Van Eenennaam from UC Davis highlighted related efforts in the same PNAS issue. Her article emphasizes improving livestock efficiency in low- and middle-income countries through better genetics, feeding, and health practices.

“This approach is key to meeting global meat demand while limiting greenhouse gas emissions,” said Professor Eenennaam.

Seaweed supplements and methane mitigation

The research marks a significant advancement in sustainable cattle farming. It bridges the gap between practical challenges and environmental goals, ensuring methane mitigation without compromising cattle health or productivity.

Supported by Matador Ranch in Dillon, Montana, this work sets the stage for broader implementation of seaweed supplements worldwide.

Postdoctoral researchers Paulo de Méo Filho and John-Fredy Ramirez-Agudelo also contributed to the study. The findings highlight the importance of innovative, science-based approaches to combat climate change while supporting global food security.

Future research may refine supplementation methods further, making them accessible to a wider range of farming systems.

The study is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
