Green Tea vs. Black Tea: Which Is Healthier?

By |2024-11-25T22:09:14+02:00November 25, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

When it comes to our morning or evening cup of tea, we all have our personal favorites. English Breakfast, anyone? With so many different flavors and brewing techniques, there’s something for everyone.

Aside from taste, the question on all of our minds is: which tea is the healthiest, particularly between green and black tea? After all, green tea and black tea are the two most popular teas in the US, according to 2021 research which found that Americans consumed nearly 84 billion servings of tea. 84 percent of tea consumed was black tea, while 15 percent green tea. The rest was oolong, white, and dark tea.

We know both green tea and black tea are low in calories and considered relatively nutritious beverages, but which one comes out on top? To find out, we spoke to nutrition experts about green tea vs. black tea, the health benefits of each, and how to incorporate more green tea and black tea into your diet.

Experts Featured in This Article:

Mackenzie Burgess, RD, is a registered dietitian nutritionist and recipe developer at Cheerful Choices.

Nate Wood, MD, MHS, is an instructor of medicine and the inaugural director of culinary medicine at the Yale School of Medicine.

Diana Guevara, MPH, RD, LD, is a registered dietitian with UTHealth Houston.

Jamie Leskowitz, MS, RD, CDN, is registered dietitian with the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Metabolic and Weight Control Center.

Green Tea Nutrition Facts

Green tea is a crowd favorite for a reason. It’s nutrient-dense and doesn’t contain any calories, fat, sugar, or carbohydrates.

The primary ingredient in green tea are catechins, a polyphenol and type of antioxidant that can provide anti-inflammatory benefits (more on that later!). There are also small amounts of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B2 and potassium.

Here’s a look at more of the nutrition facts for one cup of green tea, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) :

  • Calories: 2
  • Protein: 0.54 g
  • Fat: 0 g
  • Sugar: 0 g
  • Carbohydrate: 0 g
  • Fiber: 0 g
  • Sodium: 2.45 mg
  • Caffeine: 29 mg
  • Potassium: 19.6 mg
  • Iron: 0.04 mg
  • Sodium: 2.45 mg
  • Manganese: 0.45mg
  • Magnesium: 2.45 mg
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 0.14 mg

Green Tea Benefits

Green tea offers up a number of potential benefits, from heart health to reduced inflammation. Ahead, here’s a breakdown of the potential perks.

May support heart health

Green tea is packed with beneficial antioxidants called catechins. “These compounds can help improve blood flow, maintain healthy blood pressure, and support balanced cholesterol levels,” says Mackenzie Burgess, registered dietitian nutritionist and recipe developer at Cheerful Choices.

May boost brain function

It’s no secret that caffeine can offer a much-needed brain boost. But for those worried about over-caffeinating with coffee, green tea offers a gentle dose of caffeine averaging between 30 and 50 mg of caffeine per 8 ounces — compared to around 90 mg of caffeine per 8 ounces of brewed coffee, Burgess says. It also depends on the type of green tea — some varieties have a bit more than others. But overall 30mg is the typical mark.

Green tea also contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which can promote a more “relaxed alertness” without the usual caffeine jitters.

Contains some vitamins and minerals

“Green tea contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals,” says Burgess. A single cup of green tea offers the following:

  • Manganese: 0.45mg
  • Magnesium: 2.45 mg
  • Riboflavin (vitamin B2): 0.14 mg
  • Potassium: 19.6 mg

May reduce inflammation

The polyphenols, particularly the catechins, present in green tea can also help to combat inflammation in the body.

“Inflammation is at the root of many common diseases and illnesses,” says Nate Wood, MD, MHS, is an instructor of medicine and the inaugural director of culinary medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. “For this reason, green tea has been linked to a number of health benefits, including lower blood pressure and cholesterol, improved heart health, protection against Alzheimer’s, and improved skin appearance. Green tea’s polyphenol content may also be responsible for its anti-cancer properties.”

Black Tea Nutrition Facts

One cup of black tea contains 2.4 calories (around the same as green tea), but almost 50mg of caffeine.

Here’s a look at more of the nutrition facts for a cup of black tea, according to the USDA:

  • Calories: 2
  • Fat: 0 g
  • Carbohydrate: 0.72 g
  • Fiber: 0 g
  • Sugar: 0 g
  • Protein: 0 g
  • Sodium: 7 mg
  • Caffeine: 48 mg
  • Potassium: 88.8 mg
  • Phosphorus: 2.4 mg
  • Magnesium: 7.2 mg
  • Iron: 0.048 mg

Black Tea Benefits

Despite being slightly higher in calories and much higher in caffeine, black tea still offers a host of perks — from potentially lowering cholesterol to enhancing focus.

May lower cholesterol

Black teas, such as English breakfast tea, contain something called “theaflavin,” an antioxidant formed during the black tea oxidation process, that has been found to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (good) cholesterol, Burgess says.

Contains several minerals

Black tea contains minerals like potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus, Burgess explains. Minerals play a key role in bodily systems, making sure the brain, heart and muscles function at a healthy level. Here’s a snapshot of what minerals a cup of black tea offers:

  • Phosphorus: 2.4 mg
  • Magnesium: 7.2 mg
  • Potassium: 88.8 mg

May improve gut health

Research shows the polyphenols in black tea support the growth of good bacteria and hinder the growth of bad bacteria, promoting a healthier gut microbiome.

May enhance focus

Black tea contains nearly 50 mg of caffeine, a potential element for enhanced focus, in addition to L-theanine. One study demonstrated the impact of black tea on cognitive function. Participants were separated into two groups: the first group drank 250ml of black tea and the second drank water. They were tested on executive function, attention, and memory.

Results showed the participants who drank the black tea scored higher on cognitive tests and had a better memory compared to the group who drank water.

Green Tea vs. Black tea: Which is Healthier?

Neither. Both green tea and black tea are healthy — it’s just that green tea has more antioxidants. But why? It has a lot to do with the process used to make the teas.

Green and black tea come from the Camellia sinensis plant, Dr. Wood says — each tea is just made differently. In fact, green tea is oxidized to make black tea.

“Green tea is made by steeping tea leaves that have been ‘fixed’ and dried to maintain their green color, while black tea is made from tea leaves that have been fully oxidized and dried to create a dark color,” says Diana Guevara, a registered dietitian with UT Health Houston.

In the oxidation process, many of the naturally-occurring nutrients, including polyphenols, are stripped away, says Jamie Leskowitz, a registered dietitian with the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Metabolic and Weight Control Center.

In other words, when green tea is oxidized to make black tea, many of the catechins are destroyed. However, in the process, new antioxidants — “theaflavins” and “thearubigins” — are produced, which are also beneficial. They just aren’t as potent as catechins. To get the biggest variety of antioxidants from tea, it’s best to consume both green and black tea, Dr. Wood explains.

Incorporating More Green and Black Tea Into Your Diet

Green or black tea is generally safe for most individuals and can be steeped and enjoyed alone or with a splash of lemon, milk and/or honey.

“That said, it’s still crucial to be mindful of caffeine content and remember to limit any added sugars.” Leskowitz says.

“Since these teas both contain caffeine, it is important to consider your sensitivity to caffeine before incorporating significant amounts of green or black tea in your diet,” Guevara notes. If you take medications, she also advises that you speak with your doctor or pharmacist to ensure there are no possible interactions before incorporating significant amounts of green or black tea in your diet.

Generally, if tea interacts with a medication, it will either increase or decrease the amount of medication available to the body, Guervara explains. For example, green tea can interact with the blood pressure medication, lisinopril, decreasing the effectiveness of the drug.

But again, for most healthy adults, drinking green or black tea is not only safe, but beneficial for your body. Happy sipping!

Cardano Price Prediction: Is it Wise to Sell ADA Now?

By |2024-11-25T22:07:15+02:00November 25, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

Cardano’s price suffered a harsh reversal during the weekend as the recent strong rally took a breather. After ADA jumped to a multi-year high of $1.1500, it dropped sharply to a low of $0.95, its lowest point since Thursday last week.

Why Cardano price slumped

There are three main reasons why the price of ADA dropped sharply during the weekend. First, the sell-off mirrored the performance of Bitcoin and other altcoins. Bitcoin retreated to $96,000, down from $99,600 last week. This drop triggered more sell-offs in the crypto industry, with other layer-1 coins like Avalanche, Ethereum, and Sui falling.

Second, the coin dropped amid profit-taking after it staged a strong rally a few weeks ago. It was up by almost 260% between its lowest level in October and its highest point this month. In most cases, such bullish breakouts are usually followed by a brief pullback.

Third, in line with the second point, ADA price dropped because of a situation known as mean reversion. This is a situation where an asset drops to match its moving averages In this case, the coin needs to drop by about 44% to reach its 50-day moving average and by 55% to get to its 200-day MA level.

Is it safe to sell ADA now?

Now, with the price of Cardano falling, is it a good thing to sell or go short? Most crypto analysts believe that the coin has more upside to go. In an X post, one analyst known as EL, noted that the ongoing pullback was a normal part of the process. He cited the last bull when the coin consolidated below $1 and then surged to $3, its all-time high.

Other analysts also believe that the price of Cardano has more gains to make. Trend Rider noted that the coin will likely have more volatility and then resume its bull run. Such huge swings are common, especially when an asset has just made a strong triple-digit move.

Cardano Price Prediction: Is it Wise to Sell ADA Now?

Technically, we suspect that the coin will drop to the key support at $0.8100 and then resume the bullish trend. This is a notable price since it was the highest level on March 14 this year.

This pattern is known as a break and retest and is one of the most popular continuation signs. More gains will be confirmed when the coin rises above the year-to-date high of $1.1500.

Collagen peptide composition shows promise in managing glucose spikes

By |2024-11-25T20:08:08+02:00November 25, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

Rousselot’s researchers focused on blood glucose control — exploring whether a specific collagen peptide composition could naturally mitigate the causes of glucose spikes. The secretion of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is one of the body’s natural methods for maintaining balanced blood sugar levels.1 Over the course of in vitro bioactivity tests, Nextida GC demonstrated its capacity to bind with GLP-1 receptors and stimulate increased hormone production — an indicative sign of an enhanced incretin effect.

After undergoing preclinical testing with significant results, a first proof of concept study was established with a group of 16 healthy participants, including those with normoglycemia as well as pre-diabetic individuals. Results showed that both a 5- and 10-gram dose of Nextida GC successfully lowered glucose spikes when taken orally 30 minutes before a meal, significantly reducing the amount of glucose present in the blood by 42% on average after a meal.2

Why Is XRP Price Up Today, $5 Possible By December?

By |2024-11-25T20:06:19+02:00November 25, 2024|Crypto News, News|0 Comments

The XRP price has witnessed significant gains today, providing a bullish outlook for the crypto even as the broader crypto market witnesses a retracement led by Bitcoin. With XRP looking so bullish, crypto analyst Dark Defender has predicted that the crypto could reach $5 by December.

Why XRP Price Is Up Today

The XRP price is up over 6% today, thanks to several recent developments. First, XRP whales are actively accumulating the crypto token, indicating a bullish sentiment among these investors toward the coin. CoinGape reported that XRP whales bought over 250 million coins over the weekend.

Image

This accumulation trend has brought about significant buying pressure for XRP, contributing to today’s price surge. Furthermore, activity in the derivative market indicates that investors are bullish on the crypto.

Coinglass data shows that the XRP futures open interest has surged on the top exchanges, with traders betting massively on the crypto. For instance, the open interest on ByBit has surged by almost 5% to $682 million. The open interest on OKX is also up by 8% and has risen to $126 million. Thanks to this, XRP’s open interest recently surged to a record high of over $2.50 billion.

Another reason why the XRP price is up is its fundamentals. Ripple has recently secured several partnerships that will increase the crypto’s utility. Today, Ripple announced the first tokenized money market fund on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

With such a bullish outlook for XRP, crypto analyst Mikybull Crypto predicted that the coin could reach $2 this week, which would be a great way to close the monthly candle. Crypto analyst CrediBULL Crypto also suggested that the $2 target before the end of this month was possible.

In an X post, he said that XRP looks “fantastic” at its current levels as long as the Bitcoin price doesn’t “ruin” the party. He remarked that he expects a move to the range highs above $1.60 at the minimum. The crypto analyst added that this could also be the start of a larger move to the upside.

A Rally To $5 By December Is Possible

In an X post, crypto analyst Dark Defender suggested that the XRP price could rally to as high as $5 by December. This came as he provided an Elliot Wave theory analysis of the crypto. His accompanying chart showed that $5.8 was the last target in the Wave 5 impulsive move.

Providing more insights into XRP’s current price action, Dark Defender noted that the crypto has strolled around the Fibonacci level of $1.44 for a few days. He added that the crypto is targeting the range between $1.88 and $2.17 with the 5th sub-wave.

Based on the chart he shared, a rally to these levels will pave the way for a further rally to the $5 target. However, Dark Defender said that XRP must first close above $1.44 for at least the next two days to confirm these price rallies.

Based on his Elliot Wave theory analysis, the analyst had also recently predicted that the XRP price could hit $18 by next year. Meanwhile, crypto analyst Egrag Crypto recently predicted that XRP could rise to as high as $27 depending on the Bitcoin price.

In an X post, Egrag Crypto stated that XRP will reach $27 if Bitcoin hits $250,000. However, the analyst warned the crypto must close above the wick at $0.00004270 on the XRP/BTC chart to reach the double-digit target.

He added that the ultimate goal is a close above $0.00011. Interestingly, XRP could soon reach double digits, as Egrag Crypto predicts that the crypto will be $13.2 when the Bitcoin price is $120,000.

I Became a Cancer Survivor at Age 3

By |2024-11-25T19:42:25+02:00November 25, 2024|Fitness News, News|0 Comments

As told to Shannon Shelton Miller

My status as a cancer survivor has shaped my life. When I was 3, I was playing in the backyard with my older sister, who noticed blood spreading across my clothes. She rushed me into the house and told my parents. They took my clothes off and saw a lump hanging from my body.

They took me to the hospital immediately. Later, they’d learn I had rhabdomyosarcoma, a very rare type of cancer that starts in the soft tissue and is most commonly diagnosed in children and teens. It’s a fast-growing cancer, and my parents were told I might not live past 3.

I’m fortunate the cancer never returned after my treatments, but because mine was in my bladder, my surgery included an ostomy, and I’ve worn ostomy bags ever since. One of the good things about my diagnosis was that I was so young that this way of life is all I’ve ever known.

Both my parents were Christians, which helped me build a strong faith in God that I still have today. I lived a blessed life because my parents always encouraged me and never treated me like a sick child. I wasn’t seen any differently than my siblings. My mom never dressed me differently because I had an ostomy bag. It was like a normal life, which helped tremendously.

As I became a teenager and young adult, however, I started wondering about my future. My body was changing and I was questioning different things about my life. Would my friends still accept me? Would I get married one day? Could I have dreams and aspirations? Would I be limited in what I can do?

The biggest question was, “Why did this happen to me?” Why did I have cancer? Why did I have to wear these bags? It was rough in elementary and middle school because I was trying to hide my secret. I wanted the kids to accept me, even though they had no idea what I was going through. Some days I was fine, some days I had questions and some days I was depressed. Some days I didn’t know what I felt, but most of all, I wanted that answer: Why me?

I didn’t get it until much later in life, but I had to figure it out for myself.

During my teenage years, my mom always told me I needed to share my story, but I never knew why. She knew the reason, but what she said went in one ear and out the other. I didn’t understand until I was an adult that my story could make a difference for somebody else.

My story was about the “after” — life after the treatments, after the surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. What happened “after” was what changed my life.

My story is my story. Nobody can tell it like me, but I’ve learned my story also belongs to others. My story belongs to that cancer survivor, that person going through treatments, that person getting ostomy surgery or that person going through the many different emotions I had already gone through. You never know who needs to hear your story and how it can change their life for the better.

I had finally found my why. What was I going to do with what made me different? I would share my journey to let people know we’re all different to make a difference for somebody else.

So this is my story. I’m an author, a motivational speaker, ostomy advocate, cancer survivor and fashion model. I own and operate a modeling company. I’m very involved in my church. I wear many hats.

When I look back and see that little 3-year-old girl in the backyard and I look at myself now at 56, I know I’ve lived a blessed life. I see how God has opened many doors because I’m a cancer survivor. A lot of people want to know “Who is this model who has two ostomy bags?” I was able to model in different publications, on billboards and on TV. I’m still amazed and sometimes I just ask, “Wow God, are you still showing me my why?”

It’s been several years since I started sharing my story with others, in person and on my website and social media. Becoming an advocate has given me the opportunity to go to ostomy conferences and speak to others like me. Last year, I spent two weeks in South Africa after an ostomy organization there saw my Instagram and read my story. They invited me to speak, which was such an awesome opportunity.

I know a lot of us aren’t talking about this, so I try to share my journey to say to them, “Hey, listen, you still can live a normal life.” Healthwise, I’m perfectly fine. I have a yearly checkup with my specialist to make sure everything is ok.

I also wrote a book, Pretty Girl Blues, and the title reflects how I felt about my life. I might look like a pretty girl on the outside, but I’ve had many times when I felt so blue on the inside. I talked about everything in that 96-page book — my work, home, my peers, my marriage, my divorce and my modeling career. This book started as a journal, and it was healing for me to get all of my thoughts off my chest.

It’s also healing for me to talk to other cancer survivors. I can talk to other people that have an ostomy. We can share so many deep things — and we understand each other. It’s like, “Oh my gosh, this happened to you too?” It’s inspiring when you can share your stories because you’re walking in each other’s shoes.

It makes such a difference knowing you’re not alone. It feels so good to hear from other people with the same experience, and that inspires me even more. It helps me keep going.

I know I’m different to make a difference. That’s my “why.”

GBP/USD Analysis Today 25/11: GBP/USD Below 1.25

By |2024-11-25T18:09:10+02:00November 25, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • The continued strength of the US dollar since Trump’s victory has been supporting the downward trend of the GBP/USD currency pair, which recently plunged to the support level of 1.2487, the pair’s lowest in six months.
  • Before closing the week’s trading around the 1.2528 level, the downward performance is expected to continue until new strength factors emerge for the sterling.
  • According to forex market trading, the GBP/USD pair has declined by 2.86% since the beginning of this month. Recently, the pound sterling has depreciated by 1.59% against the US dollar since the beginning of 2024.

Disappointing UK Economic Performance

The UK prime minister has pledged to achieve sustainable economic growth of 2.5% a year and improve living standards, a challenge for an economy that has been suffering from almost stagnant productivity since the global financial crisis of 2008-09. According to the economic calendar results, UK inflation accelerated more than expected in October to well above the Bank of England’s 2% target. UK consumer price inflation was reported to have risen by 2.3% from a year earlier after rising energy bills. Services inflation – closely watched by price makers for signs of domestic pressure – remained high at 5%.

The performance of the pound sterling against the dollar will remain under significant pressure, which is understandable given that the US economy continues to grow at a strong pace, with more growth expected in the future as Donald Trump’s pro-growth policies are awaited. Compare this to the situation in Britain, where the new government has hit businesses with huge tax increases, minimum wage hikes, and additional burdens from labour law.

Future of Bank of England Policy

Market pricing shows that investors have raised their expectations for the number of interest rate cuts that the Bank of England will make next year from two to three. Currently, the chances of a UK interest rate cut in December remain low, but a cut in February 2025 is now fully priced in.

Technical Analysis for the GBP/USD pair today:

According to the daily chart performance, the overall trend of the GBP/USD currency pair remains downward. As mentioned before, moving below the 1.2500 support level will further strengthen the bears’ control of the trend. The continued strength of the current US dollar factors may push the GBP/USD pair to stronger downward levels, the closest of which are currently 1.2465, 1.2330, and 1.2200, respectively, which in turn will move all technical indicators towards oversold levels. Furthermore, any upward rebound of the GBP/USD pair will be a target for selling again for now.

You should note that the US holidays this week may negatively affect sentiment and liquidity in the markets. Therefore, it is wrong to make decisions until after the holidays and the volume of liquidity returns to avoid sudden movements that affect trading investments. Also, you can view free live trading signals for the GBP/USD pair and other distinctive trading signals on our website.

Mo matcha mo problem? How to get your green tea fix in a global matcha shortage | Australian food and drink

By |2024-11-25T18:06:28+02:00November 25, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

It’s “bold, green and attractive”, has boomed in popularity in Australia and on social media, and there are reports of a global shortage. But are we actually running low on matcha – and what are some alternatives to get your green tea hit?

Megumi Kanaike, manager of Sydney tea shop Simply Native, says suppliers of the Japanese ground green tea powder have placed limits on orders. She attributes the reported shortage to an “unexpected worldwide boom” in the popularity of a tea that is only harvested once a year in Japan.

While matcha production has remained consistent, international demand, driven by social media, has prompted concerns about a shortfall.

Kanaike says matcha sales have risen by an “insane” 250% over the past six months at her store.

However, sellers disagree about which products will be affected the most.

There are different grades of matcha, depending on when the leaves are harvested. Ceremonial grade refers to powdered leaves from the first harvest, with culinary and latte grades consisting of leaves harvested later.

“The brands that have been impacted most are the ones that people overseas like, the ones that have gone viral on social media,” she says.

Tea ceremonialist Cara Chen says consumers tend to notice the impacts of the shortage on ceremonial-grade matcha more, as it is produced on a small scale.

Most Australians, she says, are more familiar with matcha lattes, served with milk in cafes and at home, and here the shortage is less severe and alternatives easier to find.

If consumers are looking to make milky matchas, Kanaike suggests using good-quality food-grade matcha instead of ceremonial matcha; the latter is traditionally drunk without milk. Culinary-grade matcha is more readily available, and because it’s designed to be mixed with other ingredients, is more appropriate for milky drinks.

Kanaike and Chen say the shortage will affect all grades of matcha, but Arthur Tong, co-founder of Sydney tea supplier Tea Craft, says the shortage primarily affects organic latte-grade matcha typically used in cafes, which is higher in quality than culinary matcha but not quite ceremonial grade.

“The primary shortage lies in organic latte grades but … over time, as people look for alternatives, the upper and lower and non-organic grades may be affected too,” he said.

To brew traditional matcha, says Tong, sift 1.5g of ceremonial matcha into a bowl, add two tablespoons of 70C water, then whisk with a chasen (traditional bamboo whisk) until the mixture forms a paste. Then add another 80ml of 70C water, whisk vigorously again, and sip slowly.

However, Tong says this exacting process is less important if the matcha is consumed with milk and sweeteners, as is often shown on social media, which has also popularised fruit-flavoured varieties such as strawberry, blueberry and mango.

Three to try: leafy alternatives to matcha

1. Yerba mate

Popular in South America, yerba mate (pronounced mah-tay) is a drink brewed from mate leaves. The mate leaf is not technically a tea, but belongs to the holly family, says Olie Ford, founder of Mateo Soda. “I find coffee to be quite jarring and quite intense … [but mate has] a sort of more slow-releasing, long- lasting form of caffeine,” he says.

Traditionally, yerba mate is brewed in a mate gourd, where a small amount of hot water is poured over the leaves, and the drink is sipped with a straw.

skip past newsletter promotion

Sometimes, yerba mate is compared to matcha but Ford says the two are “quite different”. Mate has a grassy, herbaceous and slightly earthy taste with refreshing bitterness – the drier the leaf variety, the earthier the taste.

He recommends brewing the mate leaves with 60C to 80C water for about five minutes – the hotter the water, the more intense the flavour.

It can also be enjoyed iced, as it is in Paraguay, or cold brewed overnight with fruit and herbs.

Mate leaves can be bought at Latin American grocers and specialty online stores, while yerba mate sodas can also be found at some supermarkets and bottle shops.

2. Gyokuro

Taka Kaneko, from tea shop EdoMatcha in Sydney, describes gyokuro as a well-kept secret and “the most luxurious green tea in Japan”.

Gyokuro translates to “jewel dew” and represents only 0.7% of Japan’s total tea production, Kaneko says. Like matcha, it is grown in the shade – which gives it a “rich umami” flavour and a mellow sweetness – and it has a slow caffeine release.

To brew gyokuro, Kaneko recommends brewing 5g of gyokuro leaves with 50C to 60C water for two minutes in a teapot. You can find gyokuro tea leaves in specialist tea stores.

3. Hojicha

Hojicha is made from ground, roasted tea leaves and has a similar earthy flavour to matcha, but has less bitterness – and less caffeine.

Kaneko has noticed its growing popularity in Melbourne cafes and bakeries, which use the green tea powder in lattes, cookies and brownies.

The process of brewing hojicha is similar to matcha. Kaneko recommends combining 1g of hojicha powder with 100ml of 80C to 90C water, then whisking with a chasen until frothy.

Hojicha can be found at specialist tea stores and some Asian supermarkets.

Dogecoin exhibits promising potential in a market where Bitcoin trades in the $1 million price range.

In the past few weeks, Dogecoin has effectively capitalized on Bitcoin’s momentum in the ongoing bull market. At press time, Dogecoin is trading above $0.42 following a 213% price surge over the last four weeks.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s value has advanced by 45% during this time, hovering around $97,000. With Bitcoin expected to crack the $100,000 mark in the coming days and potentially rise to even loftier price ranges, market participants, particularly retail investors, are increasingly taking positions in Dogecoin to benefit from the buoyant market.

One of the most ambitious price points forecasted for Bitcoin is the $1 million range, as predicted by several industry pundits, including Bernstein.

Now, The Crypto Basic examines the potential price outlook for Dogecoin if Bitcoin reaches $1 million, as widely forecasted.

Industry Forecast for Bitcoin Reaching $1M

In June, Bernstein predicted that Bitcoin could reach $1 million by 2033, with a peak of $200,000 by 2025. This prediction was part of a research report on MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.

Similarly, financial author Robert Kiyosaki has argued that Bitcoin could reach $1 million before the end of this decade.

Notably, Bitcoin is currently trading at $97,100. Reaching $1 million would require the asset to increase by 930%, or 10-fold. At this price, Bitcoin would have a cap of approximately $20 trillion, which significantly exceeds the current valuation of gold. Essentially, at $1 million per coin, Bitcoin could become the most valuable asset in the world.

With this feat, the altcoin market stands to benefit significantly. Specifically, if Bitcoin alone reaches a market cap of $20 trillion, the altcoin market could be valued similarly, potentially pushing the overall crypto market to around $40 trillion.

Dogecoin Price if Bitcoin Hits $1M

Estimating Dogecoin’s precise value if Bitcoin reaches $1 million is challenging. However, assuming proportional price growth alongside Bitcoin’s, a 930% increase from Dogecoin’s current value of $0.4250 would raise its price to around $4.38.

While this is a rough estimation, it likely underestimates Dogecoin’s potential in a market where Bitcoin is worth $1 million.

Some market analysts believe that even a $10 price for Dogecoin is possible in the current market season, let alone by 2033, when Bitcoin is expected to reach $1 million.

Furthermore, Dogecoin has historically outperformed Bitcoin by a significant margin. For example, Bitcoin has risen by 131% in the past year, while Dogecoin has surged by 380% during the same period.

This suggests that rather than merely mirroring Bitcoin’s 930% growth to $1 million, Dogecoin could experience growth at a rate four times that, potentially bringing its price to nearly $20.

EUR/USD Analysis Today 25/11: Limited Movement (Chart)

By |2024-11-25T16:08:00+02:00November 25, 2024|Forex News, News|0 Comments

  • At the beginning of this week’s trading, the EUR/USD currency pair is expected to stabilize around its recent losses, which extended to the support level of 1.0332 last week.
  • Technically, this is the lowest level for the currency pair in the forex market in two years.
  • Before attempting to rebound upwards, the week’s trading closed around the level of 1.0418. The downward trend remains the strongest.

Magnitude of Euro Loss

According to recent forex market trading, the Euro has declined by 4.76% against the US dollar over the past 52 weeks. Recently, the EUR/USD has declined by 4.21% since the beginning of the month. Furthermore, the Euro has declined by 5.54% against the dollar since the beginning of 2024.

Economic Slowdown Pressures Euro Performance

Recently, investor appetite for the single European currency, the Euro, has weakened. After it was announced that business activity in the Eurozone contracted unexpectedly this month, raising concerns about the outlook for the European economy and indicating that the European Central Bank will need to be more aggressive with interest rate cuts. According to economic data results, the Purchasing Managers’ Index for service providers and manufacturers weakened. Political crises in Germany and France, as well as the threat of tariffs from the Donald Trump presidency, also affected the currency.

On another influential front, a key measure of wages in the eurozone jumped by the most since the euro was introduced for trading in 1999 – a move that complicated the European Central Bank’s plans to cut interest rates as inflation declines. As announced, negotiated wages in the third quarter rose by 5.4% year-on-year. This was higher than 3.5% in the previous three months and was largely driven by Germany.

The European Central Bank’s Vision of Trump’s Threats

In this regard, at the end of last week, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said that the European Union faces growing threats to its trade with other parts of the world and must respond by deepening capital markets to finance innovation and increase productivity. Lagarde’s concerns came as US President-elect Donald Trump wants to raise tariffs on imports from a wide range of countries.

Lagarde added, “The geopolitical environment has become less favourable, with growing threats to free trade from around the world.” Also, “As the most open of the major economies, the European Union is more exposed to these trends than others.” Added, Lagarde that with the source of growth at risk, Europe needs to move “urgently” to increase the financing available to innovative new companies that can help drive economic expansion, with many of them having to rely on funding from the United States and elsewhere.

EUR/USD Analysis Today:

My technical outlook for the EUR/USD currency pair remains unchanged. The overall trend remains downward, and as mentioned before, moving below the 1.0500 support level will further strengthen the bears’ control. Consequently, do not be surprised if the pair tests lower levels that may reach the currency pair’s parity level if the weakness factors from Trump’s trade and the economic slowdown in the Eurozone led by Germany continue. Currently, the closest support levels for the EUR/USD are 1.0335, 1.0280, and 1.0160, respectively. Technical indicators continue to move towards oversold levels after recent losses.

EUR/USD Trading Signals:

You should be cautious as the EUR/USD will remain bearish. Any attempt to rebound upwards will be a selling opportunity.

Collagen Can Improve Wrinkles and a Whole Lot More. Here Are All Its Benefits

By |2024-11-25T16:05:52+02:00November 25, 2024|Dietary Supplements News, News|0 Comments

If you’re tuned into the latest beauty trends, you’ve likely come across claims that collagen supplements are the key to maintaining a radiant and youthful complexion. Collagen, after all, is a vital protein that serves as the building block for our skin, hair, and nails, and can give them strength and elasticity. As we age, our body’s natural collagen production begins to decline, leading to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

Several studies have found that taking collagen supplements daily or adding collagen-rich foods to your diet offers several benefits and truly does help improve the health of your skin, joints, hair and bones.

Here’s everything you need to know about what collagen is, where to find it and how you might benefit from collagen supplements — plus the drawbacks you should be aware of. Supplements like collagen can be helpful, but don’t forget that focusing on food sources for other vitamins and minerals is the easiest way to stay healthy.

What is collagen?

From talking fridges to iPhones, our experts are here to help make the world a little less complicated.

Before discussing its benefits, what is collagen? In short, collagen is the most plentiful protein in the human body and accounts for one-third of all protein. It serves as a connective building block that holds together your muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and skin. It holds together your muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, skin and promotes healthy joints and connective tissues.

There are nearly 30 known types of collagen, but type I is the most prevalent (it exists in all connective tissue and makes up 90% of all collagen in the body). Types II, III and IV are also common and found in various parts of the body, including your joints, kidneys, ears and blood vessels.

All of this leads us to another pertinent question: What is collagen good for? Your body naturally makes collagen by combining multiple amino acids (like proline and glycine) with zinc, vitamin C and copper. As you get older, production slows and the existing collagen in your body starts to break down at a faster rate.

When that happens, you may notice your skin getting wrinklier, your tendons and ligaments becoming less flexible and your muscles shrinking. To prevent or delay these effects, some people make up for what their body has lost by eating collagen-rich foods or collagen supplements.

If you’re looking to amp up your healthy collagen production, you should ensure that your diet includes foods with these essential ingredients:

  • Bone broth
  • Fish and shellfish
  • Chicken
  • Pork skin
  • Eggs
  • Beans
  • Citrus
  • Bell peppers
  • Nuts

Eating a well-balanced diet with a combination of these foods is the best way to boost the collagen protein in your body. You can also consider taking collagen supplements (typically collagen powder or capsules) if you aren’t getting enough collagen from diet alone.

For best results, experts advise taking a collagen supplement one hour before working out, but always check the label and speak with your doctor before starting any new wellness routine.

Benefits of collagen

Now that we’ve covered the fundamentals, let’s explore some of the benefits of collagen supplementation.

Builds stronger bones

Bones are full of collagen, but as you get older, the protein starts to deteriorate — and so does bone health — leading to a decrease in bone strength and density. By incorporating collagen supplements into your diet, you may be able to prevent some bone loss and reduce your risk of bone-related problems, including osteoporosis and fractures.

Decreases joint pain

Collagen also works together with cartilage to keep your joints properly functioning. Over the years, as it wears down, it can lead to stiff and achy joints and put you at a higher risk for osteoarthritis. The good news is that taking collagen supplements has been found to reduce joint pain in physically active people. It may also serve as a pain reliever for people with existing joint problems.

Improves skin

Your skin also contains collagen, which gives it elasticity and hydration when you’re young. But as you mature, your skin becomes saggier and more wrinkly due to depleting collagen levels. Interestingly, studies have shown that adding more collagen to your diet can boost skin elasticity, firmness and hydration, visibly reducing the effects of aging.

Promotes healthy hair

Collagen is created with some of the same amino acids that are used to build keratin, the protein that makes up your hair. Because of this connection, there is some evidence that consuming more collagen may help with your hair health by promoting growth, reducing thinning and slowing graying.

Adds muscle mass

Muscle tissue consists of as much as 10% collagen. When the collagen in your body begins to break down, you could lose muscle mass and potentially develop a condition called sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). Fortunately, studies have shown that taking a collagen supplement, along with increased protein intake and routine resistance exercise, may help people with sarcopenia build back muscle strength.

Drawbacks to collagen supplements

Despite these benefits, there are also a handful of drawbacks to collagen supplements that you should bear in mind before incorporating them into your routine.

They contain animal products (and sometimes, allergens)

Traditional collagen supplements, and all dietary supplements in general, are made from animal products, so they aren’t suitable if you follow a plant-based diet. There are some vegan collagen options on the market, but it’s unclear how they compare to the ones made from animal products. Similarly, if you have any food allergies, make sure to read the label on your collagen supplements thoroughly. In some cases, they may contain common allergens like fish or eggs.

Regulation is a gray area

Collagen supplements are regulated as food (not drugs) by the US Food and Drug Administration, meaning their ingredients and production aren’t monitored by an official governing body. These products aren’t subject to the same regulations and stringent approval process as pharmaceuticals, so it can be tricky to find out about the quality, purity and safety of the ingredients.

Effectiveness studies are limited

Although there have been studies about the effectiveness of collagen (many of which we’ve cited above), more research needs to be done. Also, some of the existing studies have been funded by companies that produce collagen supplements, which may raise ethical questions about bias.

It’s difficult to find other supplements that replicate the effects of collagen because its amino acid makeup is different from other proteins. You could try boosting your intake of glycine and proline, the key amino acids that are involved in creating collagen. They’re most often found in protein-rich foods like meat and poultry, but they’re also available in supplement form.

If you’re most interested in how collagen can help improve your hair, nails and skin, you could consider keratin or biotin, which typically come in the form of shampoos and salon treatments but are also sold as dietary supplements. Biotin is also found in certain foods, including legumes, egg yolks, nuts and avocados.
